May 2014 Weddings

Making Progress!

I know we've had a couple of threads like this, but I don't feel like bumping an old one, so...

I'm gettin' stuff done! :D

We fiiiinally figured out the wording for our invites and submitted it, along with colour preferences and our deposit, and the proof is being made as we speak!

Also, we got the 2014 menu from the winery and tentatively chose our 3 options for our guests. We were torn on which fish we wanted, so I asked if we could taste them, and luckily, they have ingredients for both available this weekend! (They generally only have it all in stock once a month, if that)

Then, I actually found table numbers that I love, and that are pretty cheap, too! I found them on Etsy and the seller is setting up a custom listing for us now :)

And as a little added bonus, the winery called and told me they found a few more bottles of the sold-out wine I wanted, so I get to pick them up tomorrow, too!

Now if I could only find a bra/bustier that is functional AND doesn't look like it belongs to my Oma AND is available in Canada, I'd be set haha

Re: Making Progress!

  • Virtual high five! I love checking stuff off lists!

That's so awesome about your menu, the table numbers and especially the wine...the stars must be aligned for you right now!

We have our invites done but not ordered because we need to figure out wording on RSVP cards. Florist deposit was sent out today in the mail. Thank goodness! I was SO tired of hearing "You know your wedding is right before Mother's Day?" ...no shit Sherlock we know! Lol :)

Now I just have to find a DJ and we should be done with the "big stuff." And FI is coming down in a week or two (over MLK weekend...he lives 5 hours away) and so we'll meet with the caterer and our officiant!

Yay for getting stuff done! And on a Friday too! Extra wine for us!

  • @pumpkinsandturkeys I like that! I've never heard of that saying before, so I looked it up. It's really cute though! I also ran across another funny wording for RSVP cards:

    Gladly Accepts
    Regretfully declines
    Regretfully Accepts
    Gladly Declines
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • @pumpkinsandturkeys and @klburke88 those are both too cute!

Pumpkins, I love that you're having that as your RSVP wording! Unfortunately, I think we're going with the "tried and true," I tried for something fun and cute but was unceremoniously shut down by my mother. Which is nbd, but it was like "dang!"

  • Lol virtual high fives all around! I found my photographer! I work with her and we are going to meet next week to hash out details. FI and I have next week off so I'm hoping we can register that week and get him in a freaking suit! Lol I feel so much better knowing we have a photographer. I need to make the call to both our baker and a possible dj. So that was my big accomplishment today :)
    Anniversary
  • FI Actually picked our RSVP wording. I found one online that was funny and showed it to him as a one-off, and he laughed and said we have to do that. So I figured, why not?

    The options will be:

Will be there with bells on!
Will be there free of bells.
Will be there... undecided on bells.
Will not be there -- heard there will be people wearing bells.
ha! Love the RSVP wording! Got my invites and my guest addresses printed out.  Next step is addessing!
  • Yay progress ladies! :)

This past week we were able to book a NEW photographer (our first one backed out on us), we booked our officiant, and have picked out our wedding programs. We have figured out the wording for our invites and programs... and in about 3 weeks we are heading to my parents to get everything printed (they have an amazingly high efficient printer).

Our RSVP cards are simply going to say:
__ Will be there to Celebrate
__ Will be Toasting from Afar
  • @kellibastien I'm so glad you were able to get a new photographer! What happened to the old one, just double booked, or did they just go crazy[-pants?!

I WISH that I could get everything printed at home/with my fam...we have a printer that every time it prints a doc it sounds like the printer says "help me, help me, help me!" No joke! Haha!

I also like your wording for your RSVP cards, its still "formal" without being "stuffy," if that makes sense!

I LOVE hearing about other weddings! I'm the 1st of my friends to get married, and my FI (Lee) is the first of his friends as well.

  • @KIc09d Our first photographer was just a friend of ours who was going to do it for SUPER cheap... with no contract or anything like that. She found out she's pregnant, and is due in July. She was being pre-emptive by saying maybe she shouldn't in case she has complications or is bedridden or something. So I appreciate her thinking that far ahead.... but still sucks! She was really cool though and helped us look for a new one, gave some suggestions of people she also knew who did photography. So that was nice :)
  • I just booked my hair & makeup trial today! And I've set a date with my bridesmaids to help stuff, seal & stamp our invitations.

  • So yesterday I went to 2 bridal shows with my mom. LOTS of great info - tho most of it I already had figured out. I did happen to get info from a hairstylist/make-up artist that was in my price range and able to come to the venue so that was exciting! And signed up for lots of freebies. Oh, and found a violinist that we may hire for the ceremony! I just have to double check on the price and whether or not she can play the song that I want to walk down the aisle to! Still working on finalizing things with the caterer and we might look at a different places for tuxes but I am actually feeling pretty good about everything today!
  • I got a lot done this weekend, too!

We went to our venue to taste the two fish entrees, because I was fairly certain that I wanted a fish option... and I wasn't over-the-moon about either :(  They were both delicious, but just not exactly what I want to eat at our wedding. Sooo now I may have to go with the stereotypical chicken, because I don't know how people would feel about duck... haha

We also went looking at suits on Sunday, and FI was adamant that we were just looking and not buying. Well, doesn't he find two suits he loves (one for the wedding, one more casual), and they had a buy one, get one free sale starting today, which they were willing to give to us early. So he agrees to buy the suits, but insists he's not buying a shirt, tie, etc. Then he sees the shirt and tie I picked out, and loves those, too! haha  I think the deal clencher was that a tie and shirt for the other suit was free, as well. Sooo, we ended up with two full, three-piece suits for the price of one!

Now we just have to get his brother to go suit shopping, and not fixate on the price over everything else...

  • I bought my BM gifts today. SO super excited. I went with jewelry, because what woman doesn't love jewelry?? I won't expect them to wear them for the ceremony/reception though. I went through the lists in my head, over the weekend. So far I am totally done with stuff for myself, He's pretty much done. The venue has 50 bucks left to pay on it. Half of our kids have their attire for the wedding. Cake is taken care of. I feel pretty good. Now I'm stressing about invites and the caterer. Those are my last need to do now things.lol
  • Yay, all!

We booked the caterer/did the tasting.

    Ordered/received the invites/RSVPs.

Stamp prices go up in the US on January 26th, so this week, my mother and I will do a mock-up at the Post Office to see how much it will cost to send, and get some forever stamps for thank yous/RSVPs, in any event.

  • One more addition - I found and bought my wedding shoes today! Now just have to wait for them to get here - super stoked about this one!!
  • I'm so excited for everyone! I can't wait to see pics of everything!

@pumpkinsandturkeys I'm a few days late from this post, but have you considered having your cups sewn into your dress so you don't have to worry about a bra? My sister (who is well endowed for those worried about support) did it, it only cost $50 and was so much easier than worrying about adjusting the whole time. I'm planning to do the same for my wedding in May. :)

Edited for poor parenthesis placement. ;)
  • I feel like I've gotten a lot done. Rehearsal dinner is booked and menu is picked...invites were ordered Monday...made my passport appt...and FI and I are going to pick out tuxes on Saturday. I feel overwhelmed in my dreams with wedding stuff. But not in real life. It's the weirdest thing. 3 dreams so far about not being prepared. Ex: getting dressed and doing one last look in the mirror to realize I never had my hair done? Not having the church ready (meanwhile my florist is doing it).

  • @FutureMrsN3312 my fiance went and applied for his passport on the 2nd and got it on Monday in the mail! So crazy!! I still need to do that :/

@abrewer5 -- I had thought about it, as long as the sewn-in cups are able to push them up just as well, and support them (I'm a 32DD). I'm thinking that might be the best option -- thanks!

  • I got my bra cups added for 20 bucks. but i went through DB, not sure where you ladies got your dresses
  • @pumpkinsandturkey She actually got 2 layers sewn in so it would push them up, I'd definitely look into it with your seamstress at least. She's a similar size, 36DD.

@dluberts- Thanks! That's where she went, and I'm going! I'm so glad I won't have to worry about a bra.

@dluberts I got my dress (a sample) from a local consignment bridal boutique, and I'll be working with an independent seamstress who alters all of the dresses purchased from them. Hopefully it's not too pricey!

I was also told by a co-worker that they have these foam roll things that they can slip into the cup, and then you rest your girls on top of them (like the padding built into pushup bras). She needed one because her seamstress kept telling her that her bust was uneven and one side needed to be pushed up more or it would look funny haha

ETF spelling because I'm still asleep

  • @pumpkinsandturkeys I am also a 32DD and I am going bra-less! I tried on 2 corsets and 3 strapless bras but my dress is structured enough that bra-less works best. You never know!

Sweet! I'm not the only one with a weird size! haha

    image
  • @pumpkinsandturkeys I know! No one ever carries my size!
  • @majesty318 It's like they think you shouldn't be a DD (or bigger, as I went up to an E in the summer) when you're only a 32 band size. It's not like they're massive... Come on people, make my size!

  • Yeah, I'm a 34DD and I have found, once you're in the DD range, they all think you like ugly bras too.  VS is seriously the only place I get my bras from cause they are cute, and they hold the girls in place.  Maybe I'll look into the cup thing now that I know being a DD you can do it...

    THIS. Totally agree!

VS is the only place I shop, too, with the exception of the occasional order from Figleaves because they have nice European lingerie -- but the downside is that because you're ordering online, you can't try it on first.

I do have one VS pushup strapless bra that I love, and I wore it today to see if it would hold in place all day. I want to say it's called the Fabulous? (I'd have to check their site, and work blocks websites in the 'lingerie/bikini' category haha). It has a little ruching on the cups and some lace at the bottom and around the band/wings and does a good job of putting the girls front-and-center.
