I hear what you are saying CMG - but it makes no sense at all to balk at the bride and groom matching in formality.  She wears a gown, he wears a tux, they match.  Both are formal and evening wear.  If it is fine for her, there is certainly no reason to get up in arms about the guy wearing a tux prior to 6pm.

    How is Simon?
I didn't say it made sense!  LOL.
Just back from a three week cruise to Hawaii.  Great weather and smooth sailing.  Aloha!  My travel agent is a jewel!
Simon is perfect, as usual, thanks!  We Skype weekly.  I bought him a cutie-wootie Hawian suit from Hilo Hatties, and treated myself to macadamia nuts and Kona coffee from Walmart!
I do envy you and your cruises!  Maybe Simon needs a little Stitch doll to go with his new outfit?

Being older does have it's advantages.  We have the freedom to take as much time as we wish for vacations, and a lot more money than we had when we were young!  Speaking of young, I really felt young on that particular Holland America cruise.  I have never seen so many "super seniors" in various stages of failing health on a cruise ship before.  I wouldn't recommend this cruise for a young couple on their honeymoon.  It was lovely for us, though.  Food was wonderful and the cruise port advisor was a native Hawaiian who gave us a lot of insight on native culture.  I am reversing my opinion on pot luck receptions.  If the bride is native Hawaiian, pot luck receptions are acceptable.  It is so traditional in that culture that no one has to ask relatives to bring food to the wedding - they just bring it without being asked!  They would be insulted if their food offering was refused. This does not mean that a bride who is having a Hawaiian destination wedding gets a pass.
