Does anyone know the procedure if the wedding is in a different state than where we live? We live in Northern NJ but are getting married in NY. I'm not sure where to get the license from.
You need to get your marriage license from the state where you will be married, and you'll need to file your marriage certificate with the same clerk's office. If you're officiant is registered with NYC, the NYC clerk's office may be convenient for you. More info here: http://www.cityclerk.nyc.gov/html/marriage/license.shtml
If he/she is not registered with NYC, then you'll need to apply in a different jurisdiction.
