  • If you want your marriage to be recognized by the Catholic church, you need a dispensation from the bishop to have the wedding not in a Catholic church. These are rarely given and usually only for marriages in other churches when one member of the couple is not Catholic.

    It's great that you have discussed what religion you want to raise children. However, your FI does not have to convert to get married in the Catholic church. If he is converting just for you or the wedding, I would encourage him wait and learn more about Catholicism. He can still attend mass with you and even start taking RCIA classes but converting should be about him and it his spiritual beliefs.
