Who is snowed in today?

We have a good 8-9 inches.   Roads are pretty empty and side streets haven't been plowed.     I work from home so I still have to work.  DH had to go in at 5am this morning because his breakfast staff couldn't make it in.

My sister in PA (near DE boarder) has no power, kids are home yet another day with 2 of the 3 sick also.  I think she wants to scream.

Re: Who is snowed in today?

  • Same. Northern NJ. We got about 6 inches of snow/sleet on top of the 8 we got Monday. My work doesn't usually close, so I'm relieved they didn't "leave the decision to come in" up to us, as they do usually. Especially since there have been reports of cars traveling the wrong way on major highways.

I don't know where to even begin with this shoveling. The sleet is still coming down. Waaahhhhh.
  • Woohoo cruffino.

Just remember "don't sweat the small stuff".    In the end all that is important is you and your FI are getting married.

Says the bride who was to have a beach wedding and ended up with a strong tropical storm hit in her wedding.  Had to move everything last minute under a tent.   A lot of little things didn't survive the TS, but in the end I married my BF and that's all the matters.

  • We're home again.  Started out with a delay but with the ice and all the trees down and power outages, they could't send us in.  Even FI who works in Center City, Philly is working from home today.

Normally, I'd be brimming with cabin fever but I slipped down steps yesterday and hurt my shoulder so I'm content to be home!

  • Not me! :( Nothing really happened in DC except a little freezing rain (though the roads were fine when I came in today).

I had to trudge into work this morning. It's so quiet because no one else came in. I am hoping that I can go home early.

  • NYC here, too! It is slushy and gross out but all in all, not a bad commute in today.

  • We are not getting hammered like you are Lynda but the drive in today (about 40 miles or so) SUPER SUCKED.  I didn't realize how crappy it was so it was just a big ball of sucky fun driving in.
  • Delayed opening at my work. I'm about to get ready to go in, but I don't know if I can get my car out since we got plowed in. Our shovel broke so there's still a giant pile of snow behind my parking space. And they've barely plowed our roads. This is just not good.

  • Not much snow for us in Denver (only about an inch overnight), but -14 degree temp so I'm still in the mood to bitch. My normal 30 minute morning commute is likely to be an hour plus, and tonight's drive home will be worse. Is it May yet??

  • I live about 45 minutes northeast of Baltimore and I am at work.  We just had a little bit of freezing rain but you would have thought we got 4 feet of snow with the amount of things closed in the state. Driving to work was a breeze since there was no one on the roads and when I got to work there were about 15 cars in the parking lot when our building holds about 100 employees.

  • I'm WFH today -- our office opted to implement 'Inclement Weather Day' procedures at 5:30am. We have about 15 or so cm of snow right now and it's still falling steadily. We're expected to get another 20 cm throughout the day.

FI had to go in to work, unfortunately. Well, unfortunately for him; I get a lot more work done at home when he's not here! haha

  • Nope, but I was "rained in" for a good while on Monday. Neither FMIL nor I thought to bring an umbrella out to the office with us, and there was a massive storm that had us trapped in here for about 3 hours - the toilet in the office doesn't work so we have to run into the house when we need to go. LOL

I'm sure everyone is trying to avoid what happen to Atlanta last week.

  • I'm at home today! We got sent home from school early, and I know they were trying to avoid an Atlanta situation. It was supposed to start right around when the buses should have been finishing routes, but if it had come even 30 minutes earlier it would have been a mess.

We only ended up with about 3-4 inches of snow because it changed over to sleet. I'm not sure what that'll mean for the conditions of the roads. (The strategy here for dealing with the county roads that aren't highways is basically "wait for it all to melt", and it's not unusual for a storm like this to close our schools for several days.(

    cruffino! That is def exciting!

NYC here also. I think we got freezing rain in the middle of the night (I remember hearing it around 4am), which just turned to rain. Streets are a slushy mess. I walk to work, so my commute was a pain.

Not really.  This is pretty typical of Maryland to basically shut the state down whenever we get the slightest indication that snow may be falling from the sky.  One day we got approximately 2 inches of snow and you would have thought the world was ending.  Everything was closed.  And this is a state that should be use to dealing with getting tons of snow.

I am just not looking forward to Spring Break or June because I can hear my teacher friends now complaining about having to go longer then usual.  But right now they are doing the happy dance because they are off so much.

I'm at work too. We only got about 4-5 inches and then a nice layer of ice on top from the freezing rain. That didn't prevent my car from getting stuck in my driveway. That is my fault though. I was too lazy to try to shovel before I drove. The ice is so heavy and FI is off today so he can do it. I was not feeling it at 6:30 am.

    @pinkcow13

Thanks! After my mini meltdown a couple days ago, I have taken a few deep breaths and let go of the stress! Last night we picked up FI's tux and my dress, so at least we'll look good.
  • I'm off today, but I would have called off if I wasn't. Roads are all ice.

And the powers out. Only my phone has internet, and I'm hungry for bacon but our stove is electric. :(

    Boo.

My sister is still out. The kid's DR is out of power so she can't get in to see him.  Poor kids are miserable.   And by kids I mean annoying teens.

  • there is ice here so Im working from home.  Lots of people around here are loosing power so hopefully ours stays on.

  • I'm working from home today because of the snow.  I probably could have made it in, but my boss had already given the okay for me to stay home if the roads were bad so I didn't want to risk the roads.

H is working from home this morning and will head in to work in a few hours if the roads are better.

I think we got 5-6 inches of snow.  I haven't been outside so it is kind of hard to tell.

  • I'm not snowed in. I'm iced in.
  • Just found out my brother who lives near York Pa is also iced in.   His ASU flag is frozen.

  • @lyndausvi -- I am also near York, and we're iced in. Worst drive of my entire life last night getting home from work.

I'm calling my boss today and giving him the choice of letting me work from home (I do web and social media; both of which I can do from home) or I'm taking a personal day, but I am not driving in this crap.

  • @hisgirlfriday13 - My bro works near Baltimore and was able to stay at home.  His wife works for a township farther north and had to go in.    Niece is still sleeping and doesn't even know she didn't have school today.  I miss those teenage years where you could sleep until noon with no problem.

  • @lyndausvi -- I'm surprised your SIL had to work. Most munis around here are closed. I'm sorry she had to brave the roads.

I feel sorry for your niece, though -- the way our winter is going, these kids will be in school until July.

  • Yeah, they have had a lot of school off.  Sister lives in Chester County.  They are doing a hit every state tour that ends in Hawaii in Dec.  Their summer trip that hits the other remaining states starts only a few days after school was scheduled to end in June.   Sister has all the flights and everything booked.  It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
