  • Pretty! I really like 1 or 5.
  • Dress 5 without the bolero. I mean, I totally get that your mom wants you more covered up, but it looks very romantic without the bolero.

  • I really like #5 and #2.

I'm also not a huge fan of the bolero.

  • I love 3 and 5! All gorgeous choices!
  • Girlie dress 5 looks absolutely beautiful on you. I hear what mom is sayin but IMO the coverup takes away from the dress. My vote: NO coverup!!

  • You look lovely in all the dresses.

Disclaimer......I do not have a strong sense of fashion, but I like to think I know what looks flattering. The minute you add the bolero, the entire look is ruined.  I think it accentuates the wrong features, and actually makes you look very broad.  Perhaps if you could put the same look side by side with and without the bolero you might see it.

There are many other modesty pieces you could try that might placate your mom but flatter you and the dress at the same time.  (I'm not necessarily saying you should do as mom says, but there may be a solution that works for everyone.)  A piece that has a V neck, or drapes over your shoulders and falls simply over the top of the dress might be a win-win.

These are simply ideas of what else is out there.  There is no way my limited fashion sense would dare try to pair one with your dresses.

  • I think a bolero that isn't sheer would look a lot better. But that's just my personal preference.

  • Yeah, dress #5 is super flattering on its own, but the bolero doesn't go with it. That doesn't mean that you couldn't find a cover-up that would look nice with the dress. But I think for the best look, you'd want to try on dresses that have sleeves or that come with their own modesty pieces.

  • Dress 3 looks amazing on you, but I do agree with pp's about the cover up. It takes away from the dress.
  • I think I'm leaning towards Dress #3.  I really love the dress - it's slightly above my budget but I can work overtime and make up the difference (There's always extra work to do with my job - maybe I'll get a nice raise and a bonus as well).  #5 doesn't have enough 'bling' for my liking.

I agree with 'no jacket' - my mom has not come with me to the appointments and she told me on the phone that she couldn't even look at the dresses because of all the 'bareness'.

  • The "bareness." Loss for words over here.

  • #5 is stunning, #3 is fabulous as well. I do agree with PP that a fitted lace covering is much more flattering than a bolero.

  • I am tied on #1 and #5. They both look so gorgeous on you!! I agree with PP, I'm not sold on the bolero. The dresses look so beautiful on their own and I just feel like as soon as you put on the bolero it takes something away from the dress. What are you comfortable with? It is your wedding and most of the dresses you picked out are strapless (and they look great) so if you're comfortable with that, does it matter if it's not your mom's preference?
  • I ADORE #5 on you. It's just gorgeous.

  • I love number 2 actually! No bolero though, at least not that kind. Maybe something more lacy?

  • LOVE dress #5!  I agree that if you are able to, keep looking for a cover up option that is better suited for the dress.

  • #5 really jumps out to me.  You look lovely in it (as well as the others).

  • I agree with a lot of the PPs, #5 is my favorite!

  • Thanks guys - #5 is probably one of my least favorites because I want more 'bling'.  Plus it's not a corset back which I know could be changed out (corset back is a must for me).

I think I want 'a lot of dress' because on a typical day I wear t-shirts/jeans (I don't dress up for work - one of the many reasons I love my job!!)

  • I like 5 on you, but like PP said I don't like the bolero. I'm sure there are probably dresses that cut (a-line?) that have more bling to them.

  • Most dresses that are Dress #5's shape look either too 'young' on me (I don't know how to explain it) or make me look like I'm playing dress up.  I think the only reason that one looks good is the band around the waist.  You guys were all supposed to tell me how you love Dress #3 and how it's prefect for my Disney Wedding  ;-) !!

  • I like #3 or #5.

FWIW, I wore a cover up at my wedding, but I knew I couldn't go for a bolero like they sold at the store.  I ended up going with having something custom made from an etsy seller.  I sent her pieces of the fabric so she could match/dye the colors of the jacket exactly.  It was $185 with shipping and everything, but I think it was worth it for me!

    I used this seller:  LINK
  • #5 is also my favorite on you, but I'm not a blingy dress person. I do LOVE #3 on you, and i'm not just saying that because you picked it. It is very flattering on your figure and it is a more blingy dress without being over the top. I think it would be perfect for a Disney wedding!
  • I think #5 is gorgeous on you. But you seem dead set against it, so...

  • @Dignity100 haha, I went with more dress than I thought I was going for :)  But I typically wear jeans/tshirts as well so I like how we went in opposite directions.

Is there a way to compromise on the whole modesty thing?  Maybe modest for the ceremony, you for the reception?  I also didn't give my mom much of a say on my dress, but luckily she agrees that it's totally me lol.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • I love #3 and #5 just like everyone else! I really really loved #3 when I saw the picture of it come up...not just because you said you loved it. I think it's a really flattering cut on you and you look absolutely gorgeous in it. After seeing #5 I can see why everyone else loves it too. I like @Blue & White's suggestion of modest for the ceremony and you for the reception. Honestly, the dress doesn't need a cover-up whatsoever but if you're trying to please your mom then I think it's a good compromise.
