mis-matched dresses

Re: mis-matched dresses

  • I am a big fan of the "not quite matching" look. My advice would be to just put your guidelines out there, palette, picture, etc, and let the girls come to you with their picks. Do not not not over-worry about it. It will come together and work out in perfectly mismatched harmony. Just enjoy your process. Lots of luck!
  • I told my BM's the color (white), length (knee), and to pick a style that would go well with a sash. 3 out of the 4 picked lace dresses, totally by accident. The MOH picked a different material (no clue what it was). I only saw two of the dresses before the wedding day. On the day of, they looked great and frequently got complemented on how good of a job they did finding compatible dresses. We all got a good chuckle of out it whenever someone said that, because they didn't plan it at all.

Moral of the story, give them a few boundaries, but there's no need to micromanage. It should all work out in the end.

  • I am doing mis-matched styles as well and we chose them from J.Crew. I have 4 bridesmaids and they all live in difference places and have different body types. We lucked out as there is a J.Crew with a wedding department, so my MOH and I visited to try out styles, fabrics, and colors. From there I gave the girls their choice of style. I briefly considered having different colors as well, but that made for too many variables! We're getting married outside in August, so we decided to go with short chiffon dresses in a bright blue (Casablanca Blue). J.Crew has sales periodically and a really good return policy. They actually discontinued the color we chose, much to my chagrin, but we were able to get their orders submitted in time so the girls got them for even less than anticipated. I was happy to be able to find dresses that fit what I had in mind and that they can (and want to) actually wear again at a really reasonable price. Wins all around =)

Im in the same boat with 7 maids of all sizes, living all over the country. Say what you want about David's, but they are everywhere and their products are consistent. I just picked a color at David's Bridal (peacock) and let them all pick whatever tea length or shorter dress they want, with whatever silver shoes they want. As each girl has picked hers I've sent a pic out to everyone so they don't end up duplicating. We are halfway through a 20 month engagement so it's given them plenty of time to get to a David's, and there are so many styles, and they're able to watch for sales! My sister/MOH got her dress for $59. Not too shabby.
  • I am Having my girls wear just the smae ish color. Any dress they choose is fine. Its an out door wedding and I love the original look
  • I too am doing mismatched dresses. I told them to wear black because it's the most common color to find. It's also likely that if they buy a dress, they can wear it again. I think a little black dress is very pretty, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they pick.

  • I am also doing a mismatched look, but the only guideline I'm giving my girls is blue. The wedding color is blue so I want their dresses to be some pretty shade of blue. Of course, they'll need to okay their pick with me before purchasing and if they would like to, I will help them pick one out. My only concern is whether the guys would look weird all matching if the girls aren't matching each other? What do yall think?

  • I wanted my girls to have mismatched dresses, so I went to a home improvement store and picked out paint swatches for them to go by. I also set some guidelines for fabric. They loved being able to shop for their own dresses!
  • I'm doing mismatched as well, giving the girls color swatches, and then picking out a few dresses I like as "guideline" dresses. They don't have to pick from that selection of dresses (they can if they want) so if they see something they love that fits the criteria they can go for it! I'm just asking that if I'm not with them when they find it they send me a quick photo before purchasing it (my phone is always with me so I can respond instantly). Only 1 of the bridesmaids is out of state, so I doubt it will be a problem. This allows for them to pick their style, in their budget. I've got 1 BM thats a 00, and 5'0", one thats a 6 and 5'6", and one thats a 14/16 and 5'8". Various sizes and heights so theres no way 1 dress would make each one of them feel beautiful!
