Ugh Tukus is Getting Larger...

I need to get my tukus to the gym and stop being lazy. I give myself every excuse in the book not to go and I definitely need to tone up. I wish trainers were free and I could find one like the Mugatu so I would be forced to look fabulous and actually stick to things.

Anyone else struggling with motivation on something this week?

Re: Ugh Tukus is Getting Larger...

  • hahahaha great movie reference!!

Also reminds me of the commercial with the husband and wife listed all the excuses to not work out- I forgot my scrunchie, my mom called, I missed the cat, Wednedays are weird LOL

I can't stand spending money on a gym or a trainer, and I feel like getting out the door to the gym is the hardest part so I just started T25. It's the same guy who made Insanity but it's only 25 minutes a day which is much more realistic to stick with. An hour to me is torture but I'm like ok fatty, you can handle 25 minutes! I haven't missed the schedule once yet, it's been 9 days. And of course working out automatically motivates to eat healthy so you won't "waste" your workout.

Work on the other hand...I have piles on my desk and just can't focus...forums are so much more fun!

  • I skipped the gym for the first time in months last night and felt bad. That's how it starts with me. Skip one time then another and next thing you know I've quit for a month.

It's really hard to be motivated to do anything when it's so dreary out. I'm struggling to find the energy to look for a new job. Something I must do.
  • I'm the opposite: I LOVE working out, it's how I recharge and feel like myself.  Last summer I was going 6 days a week; lately it's been more like 3-4.  But I've been having a lot of hip pain lately and just found out yesterday I have bursitis.  It's one of those "just rest it and avoid overusing your hip" sort of injuries.

Ummm..... how do I exercise without moving my hip?  I'm pissed.  I am actually dying to head to the gym today and I think I am going to have to relearn some stuff.

  • My motivation has been kind of selfish. I started up karate because I really missed it and was really good at it. It gives me a reason to be away from the house. Plus I can vent my frustration. Any pent up frustration? That's a huge motivation to go work out.

My hip flexers were super tight when I initially started working out so the trainer (complimentary one day sort of deal) had me using the resistance ropes? (idk their name obviously I'm not a gym person) which helped a ton.

@chemfanatic25 - definitely have pent up frustrations but unfortunately haven't yet applied it to a workout. I need to do that! Plus I need to create a good playlist. Music usually helps me get back into the swing of things. Anyone have any playlist must haves for your workout?
  • Dubstep! I really like dubstep and the beats are easy to workout to. Nothing like some pounding music in your eyes to get your blood pumping.

  • I have to have a class scheduled or I don't go. I've been going to a pole dancing class weekly and thats been fun.
I'd like to start taking a yoga class, but its really hard to schedule stuff with my work.

  • Ugh. Five months out from the wedding has lit the motivation fire under this big tukus. Did my second Barre class last night. Sore in places I didn't even know muscles exist...but I love it! Definitely got the bug. I'm already hunting out other studios (read: those I can afford) to try when my "intro" month at Pure Barre expires.

Do you lift? Try just doing upper body. Also some of the ham/quad machines allow you to do those muscles seated you don't need a lot of hip movement.

If you are normally a runner go to the gym and look at the weight machines. There are quite a few that you can do without too much hip involvement. It's harder to avoid hips doing legs on free weights but upper is still doable.

Now I'm all excited haha. I'll have to go tonight to make up for yesterday.

Thanks for the tips @senecaf!  Lately I've been doing a lot of group classes, so not really lifting (except upper body dumbbells) or using the machines.  But that's a good point, I have used the machines before and I remember the ham and quad machines which don't involve moving the hip.

I think part of the culprit might be my barre classes and DVDs.  It gets great results but involves a LOT of squats.  I can see how it would be hard on my hip.

  • I skipped the gym Monday and yesterday. I feel so guilty! I will be hauling my butt there right after work today.
  • @jcbride2014 you sound like my brother. He plays on like 2 basketball leagues, a soccer league, a football league (he's 30 with 2 kids). He has bursitis that he's always complaining about and at one of the recent soccer games he broke his wrist and all he does is complain that he's getting fat and can't wait to get the cast off to play again. It's obviously nice to be active and take care of yourself but FI and I think he does a little too much that takes time away from his kids. He asks me to babysit all the time and I'm like dude I would if you were stuck at work but just because you want to go play?

@jenna8984, Haha, I hope I don't sound like I'm bothering you to babysit all the time! :) But yes, I definitely think that my level of exercising has contributed to the bursitis.  I also do a LOT of walking because I commute through public transportation, so I'm usually hitting 12k+ steps every day.  I haven't even been running lately because I get bored on the treadmill and it's been so cold outside.

  • I stopped going to the gym a few months ago, right about when we started looking for a house. Anyway I've just realized how much weight I gained so I scheduled a dance class for myself and I know if I don't show up the teacher (who is my BFF) will track me down and make me go. Lol.

This is me. Going strong for a few months and other things come up. What kind of dance class is it (I'm nosy and interested in dance)?
  • My exercise this week has been walking a lap or two around our floor at work with our receptionist, and reaching for the brownie I ate in lieu of a real lunch.

    Go, me!

It's a ballet class. I was pretty serious about it when I was younger but now I'll just take a few classes here and there for exercise.
