*You know you're getting older when..*

You know you're starting to get older, when you have your eye on a specific washer & dryer set. Then it *finally* goes on sale, you're able to get it, & it's like Christmas morning, opening that easy-bake-oven you've begged your parents for! Lmao. So needless to say, the grey Samsung front loaders *finally* went on sale, and will be at my house Wednesday! Oh the things that we all know we're 'TOO' excited about....

Anyone else overly excited about something that you would have side-eyed into next week, 5-10 years ago?? ;)

 Happy Friday!

  • A couple of years ago my favorite Christmas present was the dishwasher that was installed on December 20th.  We had moved into this house in early October and there was no dishwasher.  I was ecstatic to have one just in time for my parent's visit.

  • FI bought me a really nice mixer with a really nice stainless steel bowl and I was soooooooooooooo excited about it and used it right away...
then I was like, really? You're getting excited over a mixer? WHO ARE YOU!?

  • Oh my goodness, we bought a washer and dryer when we moved into our new place and we were SO EXCITED. When we put the first load in, we stood there and watched it for like 5 minutes. Three years of the laundromat will do that to you.

I'm excited to go home to my house in a quiet suburb, to watch Netflix on the couch with my husband, to pay off our credit card debt.

DH is the big weirdo though. We're trying for a baby right now and whenever I tell him something like, "You know, this time next year, we'll be bleary eyed and so exhausted that we can hardly stand each other," he gets this look of glee and says "I know!!"
  • I'm so excited when I get to go to bed early.  I'm sick right now and was in bed by 9 reading my book.  So happy to get 8-9 hours of sleep

  • I cannot wait for the day that FI and I get a new vacuum cleaner. Ours is awful and horrible but until we get through our house buying process (hopefully we get our closing date today) and paying for this wedding, the vacuum cleaner is on the back burner. Le sigh. Never thought I'd see the day that I'd be looking forward to buying a new vacuum...
  • I was crazy excited when I bought new stainless steel appliances for my kitchen when I bought my house four years ago...

I was super excited to buy the Calphalon set off of our registry with the completion discount.  I hated our old pans!

  • Our house didn't come with a washer and dryer, so we had to buy our own.  I was super excited about them.  We bought front loaders with a steam option and LOVE them.  The steam is awesome for getting out tough stains, handling dry clean only stuff and eliminating wrinkles without needing an iron.

I also love my Dyson vaccums.  I have an upright and a handheld.  I was very excited about getting each of them.  I got a killer deal on the upright because the model was discontinued, but it was still brand new with a full warranty.  We have the newer model (the ball) at my office and I honestly think mine does a better job.

FI surprised me with new attachments for my Kitchen Aid, but after talking to some of his friends, who are married, he was really worried that he messed up by giving me a type of appliance for a Chirstmas gift...WRONG! I was stoked! You would have thought I won a new car. I have been so excited and have been pouring over cookbooks to find recipes so I can use my new meat grinder and ravioli maker! In the last few years, I have really gotten into cooking any gift that is kitchen related...Is a total winner! (College me cannot belive that I would rather spend money on good quality food much less kitchen gadgets rather than liquor..aka ramen for a week so we could afford to go to the bar thurs/fri/sat. She's rolling in her grave) I've come a long way lol..........Although now I can afford better food and liquor.- A perk of growing up.

  • I'm with everyone who said they get legit excited about going to bed early.

I get irrationally excited when my boss says that I'm SO AWESOME, she's going to put me in charge of a whole new project to work on! This is not the time in my life for me to work on extra stuff in addition to normal school and work duties, but dang it all, it feels good to know that my hard work is actually noticed. Even if it creates more work for me in the end.

I love budgeting. I am not good at it, but I love doing it. I like scheming up little ways to make sure my money goes toward the things I need and want the most, and I always feel like an evil genius.

Finally, I have reached the point in my life where, if I were to max out my credit card in one store, it would definitely be Bed, Bath, and Beyond over, like, my favorite clothing store or something. House stuff FTW! (Says the woman who hopes to FINALLY live on her own by the end of the calendar year and currently only has the equivalent of a small outhouse in living space to play with.)

H and I are going shopping for my doors and windows for our house this weekend. And I was in bed, asleep at 9:30 last night. It was amazing.

I also realized I was old when my dad called my at 7am on a Saturday and I was already up. I used to yell at him when I was in college and he would call before 10.

ETA: I started buying "supportive/ comfortable" bras and not the push up lacey ones. Sorry H!

  • My FMIL gave us a HUGE wooden drying rack. I've gotten two full loads of laundry on this bad boy.

I was pretty darn excited about that.

  • When your cat letting you sleep at night is the best news of the whole week. (I might be a little sleep-deprived; maybe she's training me for kids?)

When you get irrationally excited about picking out curtains and spend weeks shopping for the right color.

When you debate about whether you really want to move into a townhome because, although you really like that they'll remove your snow, you might miss mowing the lawn.
  • You know you're old when you realize that your first tattoo is 16 years old (I was thinking about getting it touched up before the wedding.)

You know you're old when you have ONE glass of sangria with dinner and feel crappy and tired the next day.

And you know you're old when it's Friday night and you can't wait to get home and put your pajamas on.
  • I like going to bed early too!  I'm such a party pooper on Fridays.  I have dinner with my parents and niece and nephews, go home and pass out on the couch early.  Don't ask me to do anything else on a Friday!!

I get excited to cook for my FI when we are in town together and he has to work.  I am a pretend stay at home woman, send him off with a kiss in the morning, greet him by the door in the evening and have dinner already made.  Don't think I could do that on a regular bases because I'd get bored but I love taking care of him.
  • I got excited when FI and I got a Roomba. We set it up as soon as we used it and watched it vacuum around the apartment. FI even took it out and showed it off to our friends at a gathering we had shortly after.

The bolded - YES! Even just two summers ago I could stay out drinking until 11 pm, midnight and be relatively ok for work the next day. Now I get two drinks in me and I know that I'm going to feel like absolute hell the next day.
  • I wanted to add.. FI had a vaccuum that he will never part with unless it dies (I call the vaccuum "Big Bertha") and it's obnoxious to carry around.  One of the chores I always end up doing is vaccuuming (confession- I can't remember the last time that I took out the garbage or recycling.. or cleaned out the kitchen drain thingy, so I would call it more than even.), FI would go a year without vaccuuming and not think twice about it.

I had a vaccum that I had been storing at my Mom's and  I finally didn't have FI with me to stop me remembered to bring it back home with me.  We now have an upstairs vaccum and downstairs vaccum. It's glorious.

I'm still contemplating throwing FI's vaccum down the stairs, and pretending it was an accident.

  • H and I are looking at putting a back splash in the kitchen. I'm super excited for it.

I would rather spend money on my house than on myself. I'm having difficulty rationalizing a new work wardrobe, which I do need, but have almost no problem with ordering prints for our walls/new shelving.

  • I totally look forward to putting on my jammies on Friday night. Then waking up early for the gym the next day. Not even a gym rat, I just look forward to my Saturday morning class.

When H moved in he brought a Dyson with him...  So we now have an upstairs and downstairs vaccum and yes, it is GLORIOUS to not have to lug it up and down the stairs.  The vaccuum gets run much more often now.  lol

I did the same thing when I got my stand mixer! I was dancing around the kitchen while the butter/sugar was creaming and FI was like what's wrong with you, and I was like STAND MIXER YAY!!!!

  • I have a huge tattoo on my back. It took seven sittings to finish it. I was super stoked when it was done. Yet for some reason I was more excited when I got my new fridge that same month.
  • I get excited over health insurance. Ha.
  • I felt the same way when we finally purchased a bookshelf. It was (still is!) so pretty and bookshelfie.

  • I totally look forward to changing into sweats after work on Friday so I can veg out in front of the TV, go to bed early, and sleep for 10 hours. And then I look forward to Sundays so I can get the paper and clip coupons before going to the grocery store... where I use my little calculator and price compare the shit out of everything before I buy. Hey, if it saves 30-50% on my bill...

  • This makes me smile because I have years on all of you.  You all may be getting older, but you are not old.  How do I know?  Because I am not old!  Not gonna happen.  I want to be Betty White when I grow up (just not quite as saucy).  I will be 54 next month.

DH got me a kitchenaid the second Christmas we were dating (21 years ago).  Best gift ever but he knows that aside from that, my gifts better NOT plug in to anything and have something to do with maintaining the home.  He is cool with that

@Jmalettas - I have Samsung front loaders that I adore AND I had the coolest Easy Bake Oven back in 1966.  I baked my older brothers all kinds of stuff.  Looking back - I wish I had my easy bake oven...

I am watching my girls going through a lot of the changes you guys mention.  One of them has a DD who has always been up at the buttcrack of dawn and she is 7.  I can call her at 7 am and she is up.  My other DD with kids - yeah, we still don't call that early unless it is a school day.

  • I was WAY too excited when FI surprised me with my kitchen aid mixer. His mom was over when it was delivered and I was confused since I hadn't ordered anything. She looked at me like I grew a second head because I screamed like a kid on Christmas morning and all but tackled FI when I opened it.

I'm also irrationally excited when I see how much I saved at the grocery store. My grocery trips are slightly OCD and I love coupons so the days I see I saved 50% I am a happy little girl.
