House cleaning: Fi is in so much trouble...

Re: House cleaning: Fi is in so much trouble...

  • Dear God, my FI takes forever to clean our bathroom! Lol. My bathroom is so small, that you have to practically step in the tub to close the door. It takes him two hours to clean that one room. Lol.  One time, I opened the door to see what was the holdup, and he was cleaning the toilet with soft scrub bath cleaner.  He had to apply it and then thoroughly rinse it off! (That stuff is pretty concentrated... it took forever.)  I was rolling on the floor with laughter.  I said to him... why didn't you just spray all purpose antibacterial cleaning spray on toilet?"  He said, "We have that?"  I said, "Yes, dear.  I use the same spray in the kitchen... it will not explode into a million pieces if you use it in the bathroom."
I have seen FI use endust on glass (had to remedy that one... it made such a gross mess out of our windows).  And you should see that man sweep.  It's really sad. Lol. FI's mom was a housewife and never really showed him how to clean, she just did it herself. It took a lot of energy and some heated debates when we first moved in that the bathroom MUST be thoroughly cleaned once a week.  I wipe it down once during the week, but it needs to be cleaned top to bottom every weekend (I think that is pretty lax, but he thought it should be done once a month... oh dear God, no!)

I do most of the cleaning.  95% of the laundry.  DH takes out the trash and does most of the cooking.  Most of the grocery shopping is done together.

I do 100% of the organizing. For example, when our stuff gets here next week  I will have 70% of the unpacking done before he even gets home.  I will finish up the next day. I even organize his closet.

This. I do this. Because DH is *still* in trouble for rearranging the cupboards and putting the vanilla not with the other spices where it belonged and where I had it but with the rice, beans, and lentils on the top shelf, where it doesn't not belong at all. Also, apparently the rum, anise, and orange extracts got to stay with the spices; only the vanilla had to be moved because WTF?!
Oh man oh man with the organizing. Can I have FI write in his vows that he promises to stop putting the plastic measuring cups in the silverware drawer, and put them inside the glass measuring cups in the cabinet where they belong?  I moved into his house in October and I still haven't found all my stuff after he put it "away."

That being said though, I am SUPER lucky that FI is a total clean freak. I do almost all of the cooking, but then he cleans up all the dishes. And he's the one who does the "daily sweep" of pick up and wipe down. We each do our own laundry, although I have to refold the bath towels behind him because he doesn't do it "right," lol. I do wish he'd leave the throw pillows alone and stop hiding them behind the couch, but whatever.

  • I have to fold my towels rough edges in, inside of the closet.  Depending which side of the shelf it is on, it will be folded differently.  I freak out every time FI folds laundry the wrong way, because when I grab one towel with the rough edges, i grab more than one and make a mess out of the closet.  I breath into a paper bag and realize how nuts I sound and let it go. Lol

  • I get onto FI ALL the bloomin' time about how much easier it would be for me when I do my housecleaning on Wednesdays if he would just clean up after himself throughout the rest of the week.

I had a root canal this morning, so needless to say the chores haven't been done. It's driving me crazy, but I just don't feel like it today. :\

Gah, hope you are feeling better!  Dental problems are the worst.

This is where mine go, too. DH has basically learned it's easier to either (a) leave the stuff on the counter and ask me to do it or (b) ask me where it goes and put it where I think it should go.

  • My fiance does more stuff than I do, I think. I do the cooking (I LOVE to cook and he can't make anything other than scrambled eggs and maybe tuna salad). Dishwasher tends to be run by whoever fills it up. Laundry tends to be FI cause he works only 2 24-hour shifts a week.

The rest of the cleaning, though, tends to me mostly him, cause he still has a lot of the "Army (and now firefighter) anal/OCD/everything-needs-to-shine-like-the-top-of-the-Chrystler-building cleanfreak" programmed in him... ;)
