Talk to me about tanning

I'm a cancer researcher, so I'm really wary of tanning. I don't take spectacular precautions to prevent sunburns (I typically only wear sunscreen when I'm going to the beach, for example), but I don't think tanning is worth the risk.

However, I also know that we all do super unhealthy things with our bodies, and that the only way to prevent sickness, injury, and death is to never be alive in the first place. I'm sitting here saying, "Tanning is SO dangerous!" while I do plenty of other dangerous things. So know the risks, but it's entirely your choice.

Personally, I don't usually get a tan except during the summer (from walking to work, or family vacations). When I was younger, I cared a lot more, though, and managed to get some really natural looking tans with store-bought lotions.
