Hubby and I watch a lot of TV together, and since he got a new job I have 2 hours to myself most nights so I started watching Scandal as I know he wont want to watch that. Well I watched the first 2 seasons (and now not sure how to get the 3rd as only the last 5 episodes are on demand or on the ABC app and who knows when the DVDs come out :(  )Anyways... I need something new to watch while I wait for Hubby to get home! Below are some are lists we/I have watched/watching.

Together we have watched/watching
Dexter
Homeland
Californication
True Detective
True Blood
Weeds
Game of Thrones
Entourage
Eastbound and Down
Lost
The Office
ETA: Breaking Bad
ETA: American Horror Story

I have watched/watching by myself:
Shameless
House of Lies
Girls
United States of Tara (this isn't on anymore though right?!)
Scandal
Grey's Anatomy
Private Practice
Modern Family
Desperate Housewives
The Big Bang Theory
2 Broke Girls

damnnnnn that seems like a lot.... Any suggestion would be appreciated, please nothing with a million seasons to catch up (IE CSI)!

Re: I need a new TV show to watch!

  • Go old school and watch Six Feet Under - you should be able to get them all on DVD (netflix maybe??). Fantastic HBO series from about 10 - 13 years ago!

I recently started watching Parenthood & How I Met Your Mother and like both a lot. FI just finished Parks & Recreation and loved that.

  • I LOVE Madmen. It is on its last season now, but they are breaking it up into 2 parts, so the end of the last season will not be shown until next spring.

I like Devious Maids on Lifetime, it is only on season 2. And you have to watch Breaking Bad. It is now over, but you can watch on Netflix (if you have it). Awesome show.

  • The Scandal DVDs should come out sometime over the summer.

Suggestions:  Once Upon a Time (available on Netflix and still running on ABC), White Collar (available on Netflix and still running on USA), Burn Notice (full series on Netflix),

I like Nashville too.  It runs on ABC but I'm not sure it if can be found on Netflix or not.  Not sure how you feel about country music though.  The show is about more than the music but obviously there is a lot of original country music in it.

Wow thanks for the suggestions already!

Niccirf This has peaked my interest (and has Michael C Hall!). Would this be a good show with or without Hubby (not sure of my lists show what type of shows he likes vs not). I have netflix so I can definitely start getting those

pinkcow13 I have heard good things about Madmen too. And we have seen BB I added it to my list!!

mysticl I am not a county person, but the other 3 sound pretty good!

  • I watch a ton of the same shows as you!

Did you ever watch Brothers and Sisters? It was on ABC from 2006-2011 so just 5 seasons. Love that show.

Nurse Jackie? That just came back on but the first couple of seasons should be on Netflix or on-demand.

  • What about Mad Men or West Wing?

  • bubblegum1309 - It's definitely not a girly show; I know a lot of guys who loved it. I warn that it is rather "dark" on first glance, but the characters are fantastic and it's really about family dynamics and relationships above anything else. Don't let the whole "death" thing freak you out.

And I ditto @Swazzle on the Brothers & Sisters....loved that one, too!

  • I really like Surviving Jack. I only started watching because Chris Meloni (Detective Stabler) stars in it, but now I'm hooked. It's like The Wonder Years, but set in the 90's, and Stabler plays the asshole dad character. And it's hilarious.

  • FI and I just finished binging on Scandal and I'm still in withdrawl!! Love that show. We're now watching Orange is the New Black. I would also second Parenthood and Brothers and Sisters.

    Yes!

This and The West Wing are my recommendations. If you want a fun show, I also loved watching Alias.

  • Revenge!
    Mad Men
    Six Feet Under
    The West Wing
  • Elementary, The Good Wife, and The Blacklist
  • Do you only like scripted? I haven't seen most of those shows and I don't have anything that I watch when it's "new" that night.

I'm hooked on Food Network- Chopped, Diners Drive in & Dives, Food Paradise, Bizarre Foods, Man vs Food.

And these I love but I don't know what exact channel they are (a mixture of Nat Geo, History, Travel, A&E, HGTV)- Fast n Loud, How it's Made, Brain Games, How the States got their shapes, Ancient Aliens, House Hunters, Property Brothers, Naked & Afraid, Hardcore Pawn, Scared Straight, Lock Up

  • Smaller time investment, but Call the Midwife. The first two seasons are on Netflix.

IT related humor: The IT Crowd. 4 seasons and they're all on Netflix.

    We are TV twins.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I love "Burn Notice" so much. I almost cried when it ended. I'm also a big fan of "Covert Affairs", "Suits", "West Wing", "Chuck" (for something lighter and funnier), and pretty much everything on BBC.

  • Netflix now has all of the seasons of House.  :)

    Orange is the New Black
    Sons of Anarchy
    Justified
    The Walking Dead

And, now that Amazon and HBO have struck a deal I'm planning on doing
    The Sopranos
    Rome

I dunno what all else will be added.

On my "To Watch" list I've got stuff like
    Drop Dead Diva
The Guild (good for nerdy gamers)
  • I really enjoyed "The L Word" .
  • I LOVED Orange is the New Black! Only one season so far (Netflix exclusive). Good for sans-hubby. Others I watch when FI's not home... Grimm, New Girl, and Castle.

FI just started watching House of Cards. I catch a few minutes here and there and kinda wish he hadn't started without me. But he normally gets home from work about an hour before I do so he wanted something to fill that time.

How I Met Your Mother is one of my favorite shows ever but the finale made me want to punch things. I had watched it since the beginning, FI caught up on Netflix, and we watched the last season together. We really like The League, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead too. The first season of American Horror Story was really good but I didn't care as much for season 2 and hated 3.

  • House of Cards! Kevin Spacey is amazing.

    Also:
    Orange is the New Black
    The Good Wife
    Party Down

Shhhhh, I missed the last season when it aired so now I'm catching up on Netflix but of course I had to start over from the beginning.

  • @shrekspeare I forgot about Pushing Daisies! Is that on Netflix? I used to love watching that show.

Also, another vote for Grimm and Once Upon a Time. They both can be really dark sometimes, and have great adult spins on some classic fairy tales. I know previous Once Upon a Time seasons are on Netflix, and the new episodes of Season 4 are currently airing.

BF and I really love Reign lately too. It's on the CW on Thursdays, and I think it's still in the first season. I don't know where you can find the first episodes, but you have to watch that show in order.

  • These shows are already off air but are good:
    The Tudors
    Rome

    Shows that are still on:
    Sons of Anarchy
    Grimm
Hart of Dixie (this is a total guilty pleasure of mine)

  • @bubblegum1309 why didnt you like season 2 of AHS? That was my favorite season! It was so twisted and disturbing.

Did you hear they are putting an alternate ending on the DVD for those of us who don't like the one they aired?  Personally, I no longer enjoy the reruns because of the ending.

  • OH do you have Amazon Prime? They just bought exclusive rights to 24 (LOVE me some Jack Bauer) for their "new" (expanded) streaming service, and signed a contract with HBO, too. Might be a good option to not have to wait for Netflix discs! (My BluRay player is WIFI enabled so we stream through that.)

  • jdluvr06 - ughhh too twisted for me. (*****SPOILER ALERT FOR AMERICAN HORROR STORY******) I HATE scary things!! I watched the first season because Hubby begged me and it was around Halloween when it started. I ended up really liking it so when the second season came I was up for it again. WAYYYYY too much violence and gore for me. And it went in too many directions with the devil possessing people with the random angel of death and even more random aliens just showed up?!!? The part with the nympho getting raped and waking up with her legs chopped off and then turned into the science experiment and escaped... just haunted me, like in my dreams! Oh yea and Bloody face haunted me too. Too much for me! I liked the 3rd season because I find witchcraft and voodoo very interesting, but it wasn't scary. I think season 4 at the carnival could be good - think freak show and clowns.... ughhh creeeeeppppyyyy

mysticl I did hear that! I see what your saying, but I loved that show for so long I can't let it totally ruin it for me. The alternate ending will be interesting. I get that it was portraying "real life" but I live in real life I wanted the happy ending we waited for for 8 years!!! Plus they make you FALL IN LOVE with the mother,,, she is perfect for Ted!

lolo883 I didn't know that. I wasn't impressed with the Netflix streaming the first time, that is why I went to discs and just do 2 at a time!
