Inside / Outside Envelope Wording/Addressing

Hi,

My invites have to be delivered in a smallish box, think a 5x7 picture frame size, about 2 inches thick . . . (the invite is has wooden front & back "pages") - it will never work in an envelope, it would be wrecked.

I want to write (address) on the box itself, then tie it with baker's twine, then wrap it in kraft paper (per the post office) it's the only way to safely secure the invite without taping it which would destroy the entire point.

So, what do I write on the box itself? Just the name(s) of persons invited, worded the same way as the outer envelope? Or can I go less formal, like, "Nana Doe" on the inside box?

It is a super small, family-only intimate, 20 person wedding in a cabin.

I am a super stickler for etiquette, but these boxes have me stumped. Help please!?

Thank you in advance for reading :)

When I say, "outer envelope" - I mean the kraft paper wrapping which will have the entire address & postage.

    Outer envelopes:

    Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
    or
Mr. John and Ms. Susan Smith

    Inner envelopes:

    John and Sue

The rule is that outer envelopes have to be formal (and unable to confuse the USPS), but if you're doing inner envelopes, you can do them more informally.

If you have inner envelopes, they should contain the names of all the people invited: i.e.,, 'John, Sue, Sally and Joey' if you're inviting their kids.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'

It's a bit more on the casual side, outdoors, woodsy, in the mountains.

Thanks to all of you so much!

Thanks for the compliment, I only needed 15 invites so I went all out :)

May sound silly, but all the paper stuff has always been my favorite part. Weirdo...

    ;)
