name on invite

Is it weird to have one name (First, middle initial, last) and the other name (full first, middle, last).  For example, John G Doe and Mary Jane Smith

My FI HATES his middle name and really doesn't want it anywhere on the invite.  I go my my middle name so I want my full name.  It's a more casual (2nd for me) wedding.

Honestly I would just use whatever names you go by so it would be John Doe and Jane Smith, especially since it is a more casual affair.

DH also hates his middle name, so our invites were:

    HisGirl Middle
    and
    DHFirst Surname

Since our invites were more formal -- 'Mr. and Mrs. Daddy HisGirl request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter,' -- we didn't need my last name.

Honestly, I'd use whatever names you're known by and go by, unless you want to formalise it a bit -- i.e., DH goes by a nickname of his first name (think 'Matt' instead of 'Matthew') and we used 'Matthew' on our invites.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'

You never use initials on your invitation, but you may omit the middle name.

There's another thread on this topic that might be helpful for you. It's called something like, "How did you list your names?"

In your case, I see no problem with
    Mary Jane Smith
    and
    John Doe
    (his middle ignored altogether)
Thanks for everyone's input!  I think I will go with this.  Mary Jane Smith and John Doe.  I would omit my first name as most people call me by my middle name only, but there are a few places where I sign/go by Mary J Smith.  :)

I did this exactly. FI hates his middle name, so we did

    First Middle
    to
    First Last

It looked a little weird to me, but FI is so easy going about everything and was pretty adamant about this, so I got used to it!

There are some people who do not have middle names.  Daughter's father-in-law was one of them.  My grandfather didn't have one, either.

My dad doesn't! On forms where it's asked or required he's "NMN" - "No Middle Name."

LOL   On the other hand, there are people who only have a middle initial.  My grandmother was Jenny B.  The B stood for nothing what so ever and was part of her name.  She never went by Jenny, always Jenny B (With the southern accent it always sounded like one word; Jenna-bee)
