  • @swazzle yea, I think I'm taking probiotics for the rest of my life.  And fiber.  Because my fiber gummies are just delicious.  I also love your signature gif.  And really want pizza now....

  • FRIDAAYYYYY!!

Tonight BF & I are going to dinner with friends at a restaurant I haven't been to in YEARS - they have this AMAAAAZZINNNGG lobster mac & cheese, so I'm super pumped about it.

The rest of the weekend is pretty open. I'll probably try to do some cleaning & organizing around the apartment, work out, take Vi to the dog park, etc. I know BF really wants to see Godzilla, and I said I'd go see it, but only because Bryan Cranston is in it, so maybe we'll do that too.

  • @goldenpenguin lobster mac n cheese sounds amaaaazing.  I am apparently hungry :)

And to update my weekend, we are now seeing THREE houses tomorrow.  Because the one I thought was in a 55+ community (do these even EXIST outside of FL) is actually NOT in a 55+ community even though the listing says it is.  Oh man, my realtor must think I'm psycho.

Being on the west coast is no fun--I never feel like I can catch up with these morning threads!

Not too much happening this weekend.  Tonight, I'm baking this: http://www.the-baker-chick.com/2013/10/triple-coconut-banana-bread/

Tomorrow morning, my sister and I are going to yoga together.  She's never been, but I have a feeling she's in way, way better shape than I am, so the hot class I go to might not be quite as hard for her as it is for me.  Tomorrow night, I'll probably drink wine and watch a movie.  Woo Saturday night.

Sunday, I'll Skype with BF in the morning.  We're trying to figure out what to do for our anniversary that's coming up pretty soon.  He's 10 hours ahead of me, and in a place where snail mail is a huge hassle, so sending each other gifts/whatever probably isn't a great option.  I suggested having a dorky/adorable Skype dinner date, but he nixed that since it'll basically just be us watching each other eat.  We're both pretty chill/low-maintenance, so it would be okay if we didn't do anything, but it would be nice to mark it somehow.

At some point, I'm hoping to do some major cleaning/house projects.  And also get outside more.
  • nom nom noms lobster mac and cheese!!!! @Goldenpenguin
  • @Blue Yes they do exist outside FL! BF and I would be looking at our MLS and a nice place would pop up, we'd get excited, then click on it to find out it was 55+. I'm glad this one isn't for you though. Good luck tomorrow!!

Everyone says I look like JLaw but I never totally agreed until I saw that gif!

  • I am totally stressed out right now because I just had my first meeting with my new department at work- I thought maybe they were going to give me an overview about what they do, or some information to familiarize myself with- they just handed me some projects that might as well be in Japanese to me and were like here, work on this. Ugh!!!!!  I don't know anything about this place or how anything works, I don't know how you expect me to propose changes to your contracts on my first day....

So  I guess I will be looking at this and crying all weekend, also we have a cake tasting tomorrow morning which could be fun, and dress shopping with one of my BM's on Sunday.

  • @carliealissa Oh no, that sounds so stressful.  Is there anyone in your new department who you sort of know or seems nice that you could ask questions?  I know it's not ideal to feel like you're "bugging" people with questions on your first day, but that would probably actually make you more effective in your job, so it would benefit everyone...  Anyhow, good luck!

    And yay cake tasting!

  • @caseface5 I just don't understand why the old people don't want to live with me and H!  We're basically old people in disguise!  Also, it seems odd to me to be buying a house when you're over 55.  I mean, I get it, people want to downsize or retire to FL or whatever...but, if you take out a 30 year mortgage when you're 55, you won't be done paying it until you're 85.  I mean, I really don't want to be paying a mortgage after my kids are in college much longer.  <--when we're all just chilling on the virtual reality TK and old and grey, you can quote me on this.

  • Yay cake tasting :)

My dept. is just 2 attorneys.  I can definitely ask them questions- but I will need to spend a ton of time reviewing all these documents and at least coming up with some concise, intelligent questions.  Instead of what I'm actually feeling... durrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!  Can I please just quit now and sell doodles on Etsy?

    Happy Friday!!

I have nothing exciting planned other than doing homework as next week is finals week.  I"m so jealous of all of you new house/house hunters.  We've been living in the same townhouse for 3 years and just signed another 2 year lease to get us through school.. and I miss having a yard!!

I hope to get out this weekend to have some margaritas.. that is all I hope to accomplish outside of homework...

    Oh and pizza.  Musthavepizza.

Yea those are in NJ also. I occasionally browse houses on Trulia and Zillow and always feel duped when I find a great one and then find out that I'm 21 years too young to live there.

  • @swazzle SERIOUSLY!  can't I just take a test to show that I'm kinda close to 55?  I mean, I cross stitch, I knit.  H woodworks.  We go to sleep at like 9:30 PM.  We're boring creatures, guys.  The fact that my ovaries are still viable and could possibly accidentally create a human one day?  DISCRIMINATION.  I'm glad this one isn't a 55+ community though, because it looks really cute.  I just hope there's enough property in the back so H can fit in a workshop back there....that's always our big issue with all the nice houses, lol

  • @swazzle (again) and you should really just rent a place off Warren St.  It will be like buying because rent will be at least $2500 but it's such a fun community.  And the fireworks are right down the street.  Parking is a pain, though.  I also feel like you work like 2 minutes away from here, lol - my dad used to live there for awhile.  One of my family friends still does.  Or you could go to Montclair.  Or Nutley.  They seem to actually have houses semi-affordable for us people not bringing in 7 figures a year.

And don't buy my old house.  I hear it's like 800,000 now or something.  When we moved in 98 we got like 300k for it.  Property values up there are astronomical.

    HELLO FRIDAY.

@KeptInStitches YAY HOUSE!! I hope asbestos removal goes smoothly.

@Swazzle I'm with @blue that it's a little O.o that they're starting you on antibiotics before running the stool samples, but based on circumstances, they're probably the right move. Hopefully you'll start feeling better soon! I hope it's not C. diff ... that is The Worst.

Yesterday I had a busy day at work, and while my evening should have been free, it turned into a date night. J and I met up at the salon where he got a hair cut (finally!), then we looked at ketubot at a local Judaica shop, then we got amazing dinner at the restaurant where we had our first date, and then we had ice cream. Awesome night!

Today, I basically have the day off because it's commencement weekend and campus is practically at a standstill. I was going to go in for 30 minutes or so, but I'm very tired from my 13 hour day (on 2 hours of sleep) back on Wednesday. According to couch to 5k, I need to run 2 miles today, so I'll probably head over to the gym soon. J is busy with commencement today and tomorrow, and then Sunday, we're having a late Mother's Day dinner with my mom, my brother, his girlfriend, and her daughter.

I'd love to know what you all think of the ketubot we're trying to decide between! Here's my favorite, and here's his favorite. He likes that the tree looks like it's made of Celtic knots, which is appropriate, given that he's Irish American. But it doesn't have my favorite saying on it anywhere ("I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine"), it'll cost extra to add it, and I don't know what that'll look like. I loooove the simplicity of the other one, and the artwork at the top is the saying in Hebrew. He suggested that we could get the tree ketubah, and then buy a piece of artwork with the saying on it, so I'm considering that option as well.

Today is 6 months till the wedding ahhhhh

They moved the fireworks to the East River this year! I'm so mad! I could see them out my bedroom window.

Yep, I'm right around the corner from Warren Street right now! That rent is outrageous, H and I like our $1200 a month - 3 bedrooms -  in the 'hood but still super close to the city and public transportation home :)

I feel like Montclair is pricey but I've never looked into it. Nutley is affordable, I know a few people that live there.

Ideally, we'll stay in Jersey City. We've talked about moving a little south to Perth/South Amboy or Woodbridge. We're not going to start seriously looking until next year I think though.

  • @phira I like his but that's because I like blue and all colors related to blue better than all other colors.  I think it would be pretty neat to get some artwork with the saying on it too.  Any chance you know of any sweet artists that could hook you up with that?

https://www.etsy.com/listing/54411604/papercut-wedding-gift-i-am-my-beloveds?ref=market <--that combines a tree and the setting but I don't think it is a ketubot (but I'm not sure because I don't know exactly what that is...but there are way less words on this.  I think it's just a marriage record)

https://www.etsy.com/listing/162696825/i-am-my-beloveds-olive-wood-plaque-in?ref=market <--this is really cheap but also I like it because it's wooden and yea.

@swazzle um, that blows about the fireworks.  I'd boycott for sure.  I hope you guys are able to find something awesome when you're looking for houses!  It seems like such a huge investment up there compared to here (although it's still a pretty major investment here - I can just find something that's affordable and not in the total ghetto, where that's a lot harder by you)

@phira - Could you add the saying across the top of the tree? Like maybe half the words on one side and half on the other? I really like the tree a lot.

  • phiraphira member
5000 Comments 500 Love Its Second Anniversary 5 Answers
@Swazzle Yeah, we could look into that! The tree actually comes in 4 different "seasons" (colors), and the one at the Judaica shop was "summer." We're not sure if we can get "winter" through the shop (although I'm sure we could), but we definitely want the blues and greens. That's the other downside to the one I like--it's only brown. @BlueLOVE the first one omg SO MUCH.

@Swazzle @Blue housing pricing are ridiculous here... at least in mercer county it's a bit more reasonable.  Woodbridge/South Amboy is closer to me too :-)

  • @phira glad to be of service :)  There were a lot of boring ones on etsy too but I liked that paper cutting one.  Probably because paper cutting would not be a skill that I would ever have :)
