Weekend Accomplishments!

1. Had our first cake tasting.  It was so good and kind of tough to choose a combination!  FI ended up liking double chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, and I was surprised that my favorite was vanilla cake with rose buttercream.  I expected to like chocolate, but their vanilla cake was amazing!  They seem a little pricy though, so I think we are going to check out a few other places.

2. My matron of honor (FI's sister) came home from Chicago to go shopping for her dress.  She's 4 months pregnant (eeee!) so the pressure was on to find something soon. She tried on one dress and it was perfect!  5 minutes and we were done!!  Couldn't believe it.  3 more bridesmaids to go- might be a little tougher since now they have to coordinate with the first dress.  Here it is- but it's so much more beautiful in person and on her!http://www.lordandtaylor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/lord-and-taylor/beaded-cap-sleeved-gown-0175-xs4843--1?gclid=CK7d6seRuL4CFYtAMgodXWUAIw

3. We bit the bullet last night and booked our honeymoon flights!!  I've been watching the prices for months.  So excited!!!!

4. This is NOT an accomplishment, but there is a mouse in our house.  He seems to be living behind our fireplace??  I cannot come up with a single acceptable course of action and have no idea what to do :(

What did you end up getting done this weekend?

ETA: her dress is in Navy.

Wow sounds like you got a lot done! That BM dress looks very elegant and flattering! I bet it looks great on your MOH. As for the mouse, we had a mouse living in our garage once and I'm pretty sure my dad used one of those metal cage traps that closes the door once they have entered into the box. Maybe you should try some sort of trapping method?

I did a lot of packing and cleaning which made me feel accomplished. We also bought a lawn mower! yay! As I said last week...H will mow the lawn, not me! I will destroy our yard if I do.

We found a hornet's nest inside the wreath that the bird was living in as well this weekend. I plan to have H spray the crap out of it once we get home...I hate hornets!!!!
  • Finally finished moving to the new place except I still have a few boxes in my car driving me crazy.

I finally got hold of the horse I've been working with to trust me. He let me catch him and walk him around the field (he got a carrot as a reward.) It was so good since the first day he ran away from me and it's been slow and steady progress from there.

We also found our engagement photographer. We hit it off with her perfectly.

@Blackbird230 I can't wait to see photos from your engagement session! Do you have a date scheduled yet?

My weekend accomplishment was we got our living room painted! I was going to share before and after pictures but we haven't got our living room back in order yet so I'm still waiting to take the "after" photo. It took two coats to cover the drab green paint the former owners had painted the room with and now it looks soooooooooo much brighter! Now we need to paint our hallway and bathroom. I'm holding off on the kitchen, dining room, and foyer for now since we have to tear down wallpaper in there first but I do have paint colors picked out!

  • @LaPeanut1018, she wants to scout out the place we want to do it at because it's an old castle and last time she shot there a few years ago, there was a big ugly blue tarp in the way of where she wanted to take photos. So after she scouts it out, we'll schedule a day.

  • That's exciting!  You know we're getting old when lawn mower and vacuum purchases excite us.. :)  My FI kind of enjoys mowing the lawn and the exercise.

The live trap is the only plausible thing I can think of, that's probably what I'm going to have to try.  We actually had a mouse in the kitchen over the winter, and I managed to trap him under a colander and we drove him a few miles away!  I found a tiny gap behind the fireplace where I think they are getting in from the garage?  I want him out, it's creepy knowing he's running wild in the house, but I'm too afraid to use anything that intends to kill mice because I don't want to torture or maim him.  Also having a parrot really limits our ability to use any poisons/noise emitters/ etc.

  • I accomplished nothing this weekend and I LOVED it!

    Does laundry count?

I was going to finish my veil this weekend, still haven't done it, I'm going to do it tonight, no excuses. I have no excuse for literally gluing 10 Swarovski crystals on a piece of tulle. That's all I have to do!!!!!

Also we bought the wood for our escort card tray, so my dad and FI will be putting that together this weekend, another thing off the list!

  • I stepped on the scale and saw my lowest number since junior year of college! I also avoided over-eating despite the fact that FI was gone and I was bored and lonely for some of the time.

I FINALLY caught up with one of my bff's. She sucks with communication, so we only talk every few months, but we had a great long talk this weekend.

I got caught up with my Etsy orders, so I have NOTHING to get done after work today. In celebration of that and the premiere of The Bachelorette, I'm making BBQ wings.

  • @Hummingbird125, I finally get to watch the Bachelorette again! My new place has cable. Haven't had regular TV for the last year.

  • I had a couple of great workouts this weekend, but that's about all I did. There were a few social things that I probably should have gone to, but I was just not feeling it.

I booked flights to visit my parents in a couple of weeks, so that will be fun!  I had been hoping to book flights to visit BF later this summer, but his plans still aren't completely final, so I have to wait a while longer.  And now I'm pouting about that.
  • I accomplished nothing this weekend and it felt GREAT.

I worked Friday and was sooooo sick by the time I got home. Fever, achy, congested, miserable.

Saturday my BFF and I were going to take a walk around the lake, but I was still feeling yucky, so she picked up some lunch for us and came over. She just got her wedding photos and video back, so we're going to have a little viewing party this week. :) I had wanted to go see my dad's band play that night, but since I felt horrible I stayed in and watched TV, and it was amazing.

C and I actually got together yesterday morning to hang out and talk. It was bittersweet. We both answered a few questions for each other that we've had over the past five years and had a great heart-to-heart about some stuff. It was hard because there's definitely still chemistry, warmth, and caring there on both sides, but he and I both have things to work on for ourselves and we agreed to be very careful in pursuing a friendship with each other. It's something we both want, but we don't want to interfere with each other moving on either. UGH, adult stuff. It's hard. But it was great to see him,
and we actually did have some fun between all the soul-barring honesty and stuff.

So after that I went home and was emotional for a while, then I hung out with my best friend from middle school and some of her friends, and we played Cards Against Humanity, which made me feel much better. :)

Like I said, I really accomplished nothing, and I like it that way. I'll start getting things done later this week, but I want to enjoy my time off!
  • FI and I bought flowers for our patio and planted them this weekend which I'm reallllly excited about.

I bought a couple things for the wedding this weekend, including both pairs of earrings (ears are double pierced) for the wedding!

FI and I made the decision to not renew our lease at our apartment at the end of September and have begun looking at houses...also agreed upon a timeline to TTC after the wedding which is exciting!!!

  • Oh I also found out I'm going to be an aunt again ( my sister & MOH) called me yesterday to say she is about 4 weeks along.  It's still early but she is telling immediate family only, her H is going to make an awesome dad, he is just a great step-dad to my niece I'm so excited for them.

I was a tiny bit jealous though, I guess baby fever is getting to me.  I just hope it's easy and quick for us to conceive.  I really just need to enjoy the now and look forward to the wedding and HM and not think too far ahead....

For mice, we used to use mice cube humane traps. They're effective, but you have to be very smart about placement, and you have to bait them really well. I had to make sure to use really "aromatic" peanut butter and change it frequently to make sure the mice could smell it, and I had to brace the cube so the mice couldn't roll around to knock it over so they could escape.

Mouse baits also work well, and it's impossible for parrots to get stuck in them (or at least, ours never tried). They're put in corners along walls where mice like to run, so they're out of the way of pets.

Our management company uses bats and sticky traps. I hate sticky traps. They were placed effectively so our bird wouldn't get stuck in them, and they WORKED, but oh god. J had to dispose of the dead mice because I was too heartbroken.

Our weekend was a little productive. J worked on Saturday, and I attempted to clean the apartment. I got about halfway done, but I knocked several important things off the list: did laundry, changed the sheets, washed the comforter cover, and cleaned the bathroom till it sparkled.

Looks like it'll be 70 degrees with a 20% chance of rain during engagement pictures. All of this obsessing over what footwear to wear with shorts might be all for naught--I'll probably wear jeans!

  • Thanks for the advice @phira.  I don't want the mouse to die, but I mean, if it HAS to die as the only solution to get it out of our house, so be it... (I am soooo sick of disinfecting every drawer and item in the kitchen....) BUT, I am terrified of the glue traps, where they will gnaw off their own limbs to escape, or the kill traps, which I've heard can break their necks or otherwise maim them without death... Neither FI or I are going to be able to deal with finding a struggling mortally wounded mouse and having to handle that situation.  I think coming across that, or mouse arms, would be worse than him living in the house.

I think I'll have to try a live trap, bracing it is a great idea, and hoping we only have one mouse.

  • @Phira- I stalked the weather for our engagement photos for like a month or two out. I was obsessed since we were going to be outdoors. Is there a place to change at the location? We had a restroom close by so we could switch outfits. I figured that would be helpful in case you decided jeans were a better choice lol
  • Wow - you girls did a lot!!

Saturday accomplishment - I went to Target with a list and only bought off my list!

Sunday - Went for a 5 mile walk, got home and I mowed the grass.  FI put together a bookshelf for me.  We were going to put together a grill, but the neighbors were having a party and the dogs were all riled up when outside, so FI and I just took another walk to get dinner.  I ended the day with just over 10 miles on my Flex!  FI also ordered his wedding band!!  I'm just hoping it's nice, we ordered online and have never seen it in person, there are free returns if he doesn't like it though.

  • Friday I did laundry, made dinner, cleaned, and lounged enjoying my day off.

Saturday and I worked, went to see Godzilla and had dinner and spent time with BF.

Sunday I worked, and went out for ice cream and watched Game of Thrones(we just started season 3) with BF.

No super productive - just work.

@carliealissa I used to work with mice as part of my job and there are really strict rules about how to euthanize them, so I have a lot of trouble with any kill traps on an ethical level. The glue traps really bother me because starvation is a terrible way to die ... but they were really effective. I'd recommend starting with mice cubes (http://www.amazon.com/Mice-Cube-Pk-Reusable-Humane/dp/B000WB13QC) first, and then trying bait traps (http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/mouse-bait-stations-c-21_334.html) before resorting to glue traps. Are you a homeowner or a renter? At least in Massachusetts, it's up to the landlord to handle pests (and to do so in a manner that's safe for any pets that live in the apartment).

@southernpeach89 There should be a public bathroom on the Common, and if not, there are definitely some coffee shops nearby. J is a member of a writing community that owns meeting space downtown, so worst case scenario, we could get inside the building and change. It's super likely we'll change at a coffee shop because we both love coffee and it would probably be fun for photos to have a few of us sipping on some lattes.

  • @phira- That would be really cute! I love little shops like that!
  • @peaseblossom55 thanks!! I kept having wedding dreams where I would forget to buy earrings and not realize it until I was getting ready, so I figured I'd better buy some :) They were always pearl drop earrings in my dream so thats what I went with haha.

  • @phira- did you have to euthanize mice as part of your job? How awful! We are homeowners. Thanks again for the advice, this has been a real issue and nobody seems to understand why I don't want to kill him (some of the ways people kill mice are horrific-- drowning??? smashing them with something??). FFIL's advice was to hire an exterminator to bomb the outside perimeter of our house for insects and spiders. (Uh, relevance??) I will try the cubes. :)
