XP: Tipping by check?

So, I have to pay my MUA her balance due in cash on the day of the wedding, which is perfectly understandable.  However I was thinking instead of taking a boatload of cash out of the bank for vendor tips in addition to MUA fee, I would just write checks and put them in an envelope with a nice note?  Is this okay?  Otherwise I am going to have to carry around like $2k worth of cash in envelopes for everyone's tips and I'd rather not.  And I have overdraft protection so there's no chance my checks will bounce.  :)

  • I can't see anything wrong with giving cheques as long as your vendors, etc., are okay with receiving cheques. I would double check with them before going ahead.

Well, this is for tip, not payment, so it's really kind of like a gift?  I'd feel awkward asking them in advance if I can tip them by check.  I guess I just want to see if anyone else has done it?  For example I am supposed to tip my event manager a lot, like $800.  I don't feel like being responsible for an envelope with $800 cash in it.
  • I tipped all my vendors in cash. Hopefully the IRS doesn't track me down for saying this, but that way they didn't have to claim any of it and could just put it in their pocket. I think that most people who receive tips prefer to get them in cash. I gave all the tip envelopes to my DOC to handle for me though.

  • We tipped in cash.  The biggest tip was for the venue, and that was built into our total fee which was paid for about 10 days prior to the wedding, so the amount of cash we needed to carry around and give out for tips was not that bad.
