I don't get proposing on a birthday or holiday. But I don't see any reason to postpone an engagement if it's otherwise the right time. If that makes any sense.
I don't really see it as postponing it. BF is planning out the proposal and picking the day, he just isn't picking a holiday or my birthday.

ETA: He also isn't just carrying the ring around with him. He's going to buy and propose, no waiting around while it sits in a drawer. He's mentioned several times that he doesn't see the point in that.
He could just do what my FI did - hop in the car and say 'where was the place that sold the ring you wanted' - drive there pick it out, pay for it and when it comes in hand it over and say 'there ya go'; seriously - my proposal went something like that.

  • @Dignity100 BF would love for me to do that. He keeps joking that he's going to hand me a check and just send me to the jeweler's.

My BSC moments usually happened when I was drinking. I still remember having a meltdown on Christmas Eve after spending the evening with his family and all of them pressuring him about marrying me.  I tried to just ignore it but the more they teased him the more personally I was taking it (the wine didn't help).  So on the way home I cried my eyes out asking him why he was so against marrying me. I felt bad the next morning and it all worked out in the end :)

Well, since the one he picked out is from Etsy I doubt he's just going to jump in the car and go it.

There's nothing wrong with that. I was just saying why I don't think it would be postponing the engagement to not do it on a holiday/birthday in my specific circumstance.

  • @BreMR Oh wow, that sounds pretty intense. BF's extended family has started asking us where the ring is, but it's normally just a couple of questions and then they move on. His immediate family never asks, although his mom has started informing us that she's ready for grandchildren. Other than that, no pressure from families. I just can't even imagine what that must have been like for you, especially while drinking wine... wow.

Yeah, that's really good. I'm glad he's not going to wait. That would just be ahhhh.

  • @bethsmiles I'm glad too he won't drag his feet once he has the ring. That would bring out ALL the BSC!
