Tips to avoid chaffing?

I had my final dress fitting yesterday and brought my dress home!  I LOVE it!
The only problem is.....after I took it off I realized that it was rubbing a little weird under my arms. I'm very busty and we had to make the top & straps pretty tight so it would hold me in. The seamstress said there wasn't really anything we could do with the fabric under my arms because it is one piece on top and adjusting the arm holes might loosen the hold on the bust. The rubbing didn't hurt and I barely noticed it, but I only had the dress on for maybe 45 minutes to make sure I could walk, sit, dance, etc. I'm worried the chaffing might start to hurt when I wear it for 6+ hours on my wedding day.

Any advice to avoid the chaffing? Any runners out there that have awesome products I could try? I have 3 weeks to try things out and make a plan.
Thank you!!

  • Body Glide is a product that a lot of runner's use to help prevent chaffing.  You can find it online or at Dick's or a local running store.  Give that a whirl and see if it helps.

  • Monistat makes an anti chafing gel.  I use Body Glide in triathlons.  But regardless, you need to make sure whatever you use won't get on your dress or discolor it.  For what I paid for my gown, I'd rather have my arms rub a little, or adjust how I'm standing, rather than risk something getting on my dress.  The Monistat product is thinner.  Body Glide is like a stick of wax deodorant.

I've heard baby powder works wonders.

  • Monistat makes one that works well. It also doesn't leave a mess, though I'd probably give it a trial run before the event. Bandaid also makes one that's supposed to work on your feet. I've used it with uncomfortable sandals and it does a good job of preventing blisters. It might be a good option if the Monistat doesn't work.

  • Is there beading on the bodice? If not, ignore this comment. Mind does, and it bugged me. The owner of my store said that they can remove beading from the bodice where your arm would rub to make it more comfortable. Obviously, since your arm is there you wouldn't even be able to see it.

  • Another vote for Body Glide. Goes on clear & unscented. You will forget you have it one within moments.

  • For cycling I use something called 'The Butt Stuff' and it works pretty well (and I haven't noticed any staining from it).

  • I love Body Glide, I use it for the chubrub on my thighs when I wear skirts.  And DD uses it on her feet when she figure skates, she broke in new skates and never got a blister!
  • Another vote for Body Glide. I use it for running & it works wonders. As Erikan73 said - it goes on clear!
