Chit Chat

There's a lot of discussion about nightmares, so here's my current worry..

I don't know if I really should be worried or not. But I am. We are in Texas, and our officiant is a youth pastor at a local church, and is FIs old friend. Way back when we asked him to do our wedding, he assured us that he could marry us.

I've been psychotic and was looking up officiant requirements recently, and the Texas website says something about being ordained. How are pastors ordained, if they aren't a Catholic priest?

Anyway, my new nightmare concern is that this man agreed to officiate our wedding, but that it will not actually be legal. I don't want this nightmare to come true this close to the wedding!

(I've been pushing Fi to message him and get 100% certainty that the man can legally marry us).

  • He can. I live in Texas too, and so long as he is a minister in good standing with his church, he is considered ordained. Also, Texas counts anyone who has been ordained online. You're fine.
  • Agree with the PP; my dad is an ordained Baptist minister in Texas and has performed many weddings (legally!). No need to worry.
  • Thanks, I knew if he was the pastor who performed the service each Sunday then definitely, but a youth pastor I didn't know! You guys made me feel better, I will be able to asleep until we do hear from the officiant haha.

  • Ministers in churches are ordained. Since he is a youth pastor I would assume he is an ordained minister otherwise they would call him something like "youth group leader".
