    Another vote for strawberry shortcake. I also really like making "portable smores." Take a marshmellow, dip it in chocolate and roll it around in graham cracker crumbles, put in the frig. They are super easy and great if you dont have a bonfire to actually toast the marshmellows.

  • I love strawberry shortcake too but I make mine differently:

    Strawberries, macerated with a bit of sugar
    Angel food cake or pound cake (they're even better if grilled a bit)
    fresh mint (basil works too)

    I also love drizzling all of it with balsamic vinegar (preferably reduced). I've never liked whipped cream or vanilla ice cream but both would be good with this.

    The mint or balsamic vinegar taste wonderful but also look a bit sophisticated and fun- yet still appealing to (almost) everyone.

  • @wandajune6 FI would love the balsamic vinegar or mint on his. He tries to stay away a lot of extra calories and will try just about anything food-wise.

    I love it. I like mint and nothing else- in fact, I frequently shred it on sliced strawberries for a snack. I'm also happy to pour balsamic on strawberries. If it's too strong, a tiny bit of sugar (or Splenda) works well. FI's not a fan of mint but will use the balsamic glaze.
