To Hose Or Not

I almost never wear dresses as I work in an extremely casual office.  On the odd occasion that I do wear a dress, I never wear pantyhose.  That said, I'm getting married in Las Vegas this December and don't know if pantyhose are currently in or out of fashion.  I also hesitate as I have had a few major surgeries to my stomach and cannot tolerate anything tight against it.  I don't know that I could take wearing pantyhose, but don't want to look déclassé at my own wedding.  Any advice would be greatly accepted!!  Thank you.

Re: To Hose Or Not

  • I am not sure if pantyhose are in or out of style but for me, I absolutely hate them.  I hate wearing them with shoes because my feet are small and the pantyhose cause them to slip out of the shoe.  Also the waist band always rolls down and pulling them up after peeing is annoying and then there is always the chance that you will get a run or hole in them.

If I were you I would skip the hose rock your bare legs!

  • You can wear a dress with no hose if you are more comfortable that way. As long as your legs are shaven & if you are wearing shoes where your toes will be exposed, make sure to treat yourself to a pedicure you will be in fashion with no hose.

I don't consider myself particularly fashionable, but many years ago I read a fashion magazine that suggested women free their legs whenever possible and as far into the cold weather months as possible. Since then, I have taken that to heart and I never wear pantyhose --- ever.

Free those legs & enjoy the breeze, baby!

Kate Middleton is bringing them back. That being said, I would NEVER wear pantyhose under my wedding dress. It was hot enough under there as it is, I did not need another layer. I mean, holy swamp ass.

  • I have a pair of tights I bought years ago. They are still in the package. I have no idea why I still have them around, but I do.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Just say no to hose.
  • Oh God no. I only wear hosiery in the winter because I live in the Northeast, and even then, only tights or leggings. Pantyhose are the devil.

Me too!  I think I got them back when I was in high school.  That was 12 years ago.  I doubt they would even fit me.

    Ditto. Pantyhose are awful.

Personally, I shave, and love painting my nails. But the bolded is most definitely not a requirement for anyone.
  • Just say no to pantyhose. Maybe one of these days they'll finally stop making them.

  • If I do partake of leg coverings, I go for stockings, with a garter belt or held up by clips on some shapewear. Swamp ass is a no-go.

As for not having anything constrictive on your stomach area, you can wear thigh high ones with gel-like stuff on the inside so they stay put.  I think they can look cute.  Examples:

I'm anti pantyhose ETA: Duchess Kate is required to wear them so it's not really bringing them back I to style. I doubt she likes them.

  • No hose!! They are not in style! Older ladies still wear them under their pants and office chicks. I'm forced to wear them to work but that's it. I too usually try to do tights in the winter and shed them in the summer in favor of a spray tan.

    THIS STUFF:

Is supposed to be AMAZING. My BFF used it and has since started to use it whenever she wears skirts/shorts/dresses.

  • Man, I must be out of touch here...I think brides and/BMs with short dresses should wear them. Why on earth would you walk down the aisle with airbrush makeup, perfect hair, an expensive dress, a tiara, flowers, gorgeous shoes- and splochy legs? Yeah, sunset-colored drugstore pantyhose may suck but higher-end extra sheer ones are really comfy and classy.
If pantyhose are that objectionable, rock some silk stockings and garters under your gown. If putting on those babies won't make you feel glamorous, nothing will!

Splochy legs?  Sorry you have that problem.

OP - I can't remember the last time I wore hose.  I could never ever imagine wearing it under a wedding dress.  Way too hot and awkward.

I have splotchy legs, and refuse to wear pantyhose. I'll wear tights in the winter, but otherwise I rock my splotchy legs. My mother is appalled that I refuse to wear hose at my wedding.
  • I wouldn't wear panty hose under a long dress, however- I do wear them with short dresses.

I choose to wear them under short dresses to more formal events because I usually have lots of scratches and scars on my legs from biking/hiking/playing with my dog/my day to day shenanigans.

That being said, I have NEVER noticed if other people are wearing them or not.

  • That airbrush stuff is amazing @beethery‌ my co worker uses it. Sheer expensive pantyhouse are nice looking and feeling but not trying to be TMI here, but after wearing hose for 8 hours your feet will smell awful!!!

  • I always end up with a run anytime I've worn hose. Always. I'm good in tights in the winter, and I love leggings, knees-high I'm good with, and I'll even do some fishnets (seriously considering some for my wedding). But panty hose? Nope.

Here here! I love my legs clean shaven and think pedicures are basically heaven on earth, however that is individual to each and every woman...person to each and every person (men can shave and get pedis too, every time I go there are a few men with their feet in the water), and one way is not more correct then any other way.
