Strapless bra questions

Ok, so I have finally found my dress. The issue is, I don't know what to do for a bra. I need one that is strapless, but I also need something that will work for a larger bust. The strapless bras I have used in the past have not worked as they fall off and offer no support other than smashing things "flat".  I need something that will work with a sweetheart neckline on the dress and a scoop back. Any suggestions/experience?

Re: Strapless bra questions

  • Have you considered a bustier or a corset bra?  These will not only dip lower in the back but will also support your chest better then just a regular strapless bra.

Also, how large is your chest?  Depending on your size you could talk to your seamstress about adding cups to your dress rather then having to wear a bra.

  • I've been looking at the corset bras, but I wasn't sure they'd work any better. I'm a 34D.
  • If you do a search under "busty" there are several boards with brand suggestions. There was one a few weeks backs that had lots of great brand suggestions.
  • I believe they would because they support the chest from around the belly.  Same with corset dresses. The corset and piping is what holds the dress up (or in this case the bra up) and thus supports your chest and prevents any type of sliding down that a normal strapless bra may do.

  • I've recently become obsessed with www.barenecessities.com. I just ordered and returned about 5 bras because none of them will work with my dress, but 2 of the 5 were shockingly comfortable and uplifting for a strapless bra. They really did give some great support. Also, your dress might provide some good support too...support for the bra, that is. My bra doesn't seem like it will go anywhere under the dress! I just needed something a little deeper plunge in the front, or I would stick with one that I had.
  • Im a 32DD and Im going to get cups sewn into my dress. Maybe you can talk to your seamstress about that as an option?

  • Also remember that if you do find a bra that you like and is comfortable and stays in place but the cups may stick out above your dress, you can alter your bra so that it isn't seen.

  • I am a 32DD and I bought the Wacoal Red Carpet bra intending to wear it with my strapless sweetheart dress.

I didn't end up needing a bra at all, due to the structure of the dress.

But I kept the bra to wear at other times and it is the first strapless bra I have ever had that stays up all day!
  • I'm in love with the Panache Evie strapless. I wear a 28G and it's a magical, magical thing. It almost makes me consider buying tops and dresses that aren't compatible with "real" bras :)
  • Have your tailor tack in cups.  Not pads, real cups.  You'd be surprised how much lift and support you can get with good cups--they'll actually look like a bra.  It may not be the right thing, but it's worth a try.

  • I would suggest one of the wonderbra ultimate strapless brass. I'm a 38F and it is literally the best bra I have. I can just up and down like a lunatic and they stay very securely and comfortably in the same place. It also have a really deep plunge in the front and the back can be moved really far down.
