a few things...

Firstly, I'm having a destination wedding.. In vegas to be exact... I'm having the most difficult time deciding how to get my dress there on time.... And i only have 3 weeks until the big day... Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.I did plan on carrying the dress with me on the plane, but im not altogether sure on how to go about it... Also, I got my shoes in the mail the other day. They are only 3.75 in., but the heel is so flimsy I cant even walk.. And I have many other heels the same height.... Ive been 'practicing' with them almost daily, but to no avail... Let's just say that now I'm stressing out majorly.. :/

I would just carry it on.  some airlines have a closet, and if they don't, they can normally lay it across luggage in the overhead compartment.   Just make sure your hotel has a steamer, or pack a travel steamer so you can get out any last minute wrinkles, if needed.

Go shoe shopping, buy some lower, quality shoes.  I imagine if you are getting married in Vegas, you are going to be doing a lot of wandering around.  Get comfortable shoes.

  • Your dress can be your carry on.  If your concerned about the airline not having a closet, you can pack your dress in a carry on luggage (make sure you have some way to get your dress steamed if you do this).  If you have to pack your dress in a carry-on, make sure you put tissues between every fold to make sure any beading does not cause a snag on the dress.

I think it's pretty common to worry about getting your dress there.  I know there is not a closet on the flight I'm taking down to my DW (I've already checked).  I know one of the things I was thinking about doing was calling the airline to see if they had one of those things where if you paid extra $$ you could get on the plane first.

As far as shoes - I would go get comfortable shoes.  I kept purchasing shoes and then thinking about how my ankles were going to hurt with all the walking I know I'll have to do at my wedding.  I ended up getting a comfortable pair of wedges.

  • I had a destination wedding a few weeks ago. You can carry it on without too much of a problem. Most flights will have a closet you can put it in, and, if they don't, you can put it in the overhead. I had to do both on both legs of the flight down. The key is making sure your hotel has a laundry service that can steam the dress.

As for the shoes, if you can't wear them, you can't wear them. Not the end of the world. If it's a long dress it doesn't matter anyway provided the shoes are the same height that the dress was hemmed to. I ended up having to do this too. Wear what you are comfortable in, you'll be in them for a while. I wore wedges for the garden ceremony, but had to change into ballroom dance shoes for our first dance (a waltz). No problem. :)

Definitely carry your dress on the plane. I've seen & known many brides who do this! You can always ask the flight attendants once you board if there's a good place to store it during the flight --- I'm sure they'll be very helpful.

Ditch the shoes you ordered and go for a quick shopping trip, or wear a pair you already own. You want to be able to walk on your wedding day! You shouldn't have any trouble finding the same heel height. Good luck!

  • I also think you should carry-on your dress.

Ditch the shoes and find a new pair. Get yourself to DSW or a department store and find ones that you can walk in.
  • If you can't find another pair of shoes, wear something you own and are comfortable in, assuming that your dress is floor length and you won't be walking down stairs for your entrance. Many dresses cover the feet and the shoes aren't really seen anyway.
  • Thanks for all the tips! The worst thing about the shoe situation is my dress is a tea length... So my shoes will show.. But, I have decided to wear a pair of black and white polka dot wedges that i have had for forever (and feel very comfortable walking in!) Itjust is too close to my wedding day to order anything new... I've got 6 days until my big day!
  •  Carry the dress on with you and ask the stewardess to store it. They store larger carry on's (like guitars and strollers) with them.

Take a trip to a local shoe store, DSW or ALDO, don't stress out about the shoes, the beauty is in you and the shoes will be hidden most of the night!!
