can the groom's dad usher the groom's mom to the ceremony

hi all,

so most of what i've read from googling says that an usher, groomsmen, or even the groom is the one to walk the groom's mom down the aisle. my question is, can the groom's dad walk his wife down the aisle? i'm surprised i didn't see that anywhere an an option.

This is one of those times where you can pretty much do what you want.
  • Yes, though you may get push back. I wanted my step-father to usher my mother to her seat and the groom to usher his mother (she's single) and I got a whole crap load of "that's not how it's done" and they refused to do it that way.  So the MOG was ushered by her son-in-law who was an usher and my mom was ushered by her step-son who was an usher.

  • Both of H's parents walked with him down the aisle and both of my parents walked with me. Is that an option?

Sure.  I always felt the FOG gets the shaft so-to-speak when in comes to these things.   It's like he is in limbo.

That said both my brothers walked down my mom and their new MIL at their weddings even though all fathers were very much alive and very much married.  DH also escorted his mom down, but she was single.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We did this, despite FI's grandmother's horror. It felt stupid to scrounge up an usher and have FIL aimlessly waltz behind MIL when they are happily married. Do whatever works for you guys.
