Have my dress, now what about the accessories?

Hi everyone,

I ordered my dress a few months ago and I have my first fitting this Saturday (eek!).

I'm wondering what type of jewelry to wear and what veil?

My ears are double pierced and I have my cartilage pierced and currently just have silver studs in all - I was thinking of wearing my Tennessee freshwater pearls my dad gave me when I was younger (they aren't perfect spheres, almost sort of triangular - but they tick off the "something old" bit!), so what should I do about the second holes and cartilage?  Should I get a bracelet as well? I have no idea what to look for in a bracelet!  My ring is palladium.

In terms of a veil - should I get a birdcage veil or a full length? I'm going to have my hair up, but pretty loose.

The wedding is pretty contemporary/modern, so I'm not really going for lace or anything like that.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • Your dress is gorgeous.  Since you have a lot of embellishment/bling up around your neck I would keep the earrings minimal.  So I would wear your pearl earrings but then in the other holes keep it very simple with maybe small pearl studs or just you silver studs that you are currently wearing.

For a bracelet I would go with something simple as well.

As far as the veil goes, I am a "longer is better" kind of girl :)  You could do a pretty cathedral length one tier veil with a raw edge.  But a birdcage veil would work as well. Maybe go into your salon and try your dress on (maybe after you have had your hair and makeup trial) and then try out a few different types of veils and see what you like best.  Then when you decide take a look on Etsy and see if you can find something that you like and within your price range.

  • When my niece was in a beauty contest, she wore wax concealing plugs that matched her skin tone.  She won.

  • Thank you both!

CMGragain - those plugs sound interesting! They would have been great when I had my ears guaged, but I've taken mine out already.

I'm liking the idea of everything simple, I was just worried that everything would be too simple if I went that way.

Not at all!  Your dress is certainly not simple and your face and your dress should be the main focus, not your accessories.

  • I would go with "diamond" drop earrings and that's it:

Your dress is stunning and I don't think you need much at all. It really speaks for itself. Have you considered no veil? You could just work a blingy headband, barrette or comb into your updo.

  • I think simpler is better with most wedding dresses, and I love the sentimentality of wearing the earrings your dad gave you. Personal wins over gaudy any day, IMO.

You could look for inspiration in other personal items too, like a borrowed veil. For example, I'm borrowing a hairpiece my BFF wore in her wedding, my earrings have my FI's blue birthstone in them, and I'm wearing a simple silver monogram bracelet with my new initials for my something new.

  • I hadn't really considered no veil.... maybe they'll have some in the shop for me to try with just to see what it would look like.

    Thanks everyone!

Wow, you dress is so beautiful and gorgeous. I suggest not to wear a veil and disk your hair is OK. Add some accessories will be perfect. http://www.edreambridal.com/accessories-3.html

I would avoid drop earrings --- the best feature of your dress is the stunning neckline, and I don't think you should take away from it.

I'd wear pearl or rhinestone cluster earrings in your main holes, kind of like this, and leave the rest of the holes empty:

Find a bracelet that compliments your jewelry & a full veil --- again, I think a birdcage would make your torso look way too busy.

  • I agree with @southernbelle0915, the drop earrings would be great if you are wearing an updo. Either way, it's a gorgeous dress and you will be stunning in it.
    Happiness is an inside job
  • For earrings I would do something small and stunning (I like the idea of studs but I think drop earrings look more formal - and the model is wearing drops). You could add a simple bracelet but nothing too thick, the word "dainty" comes to mind. I wouldn't go with a necklace just because you already have so much going on up there. As far as a veil goes, I would do long or none - but not a tiara. You could do small CZ bobby pins here and there to add some sparkle, if you don't go with a veil, but don't overdo it! I think that dress and an up-do style will draw attention to your face, and that dress is so gorgeous on its own that you don't need to fully accessorize.
  • Thanks everyone, I had my first fitting today and on seeing the dress in person, I'm definitely going to go with simple is best.

I'm going to wear the pearls my dad gave me for earrings, no necklace, and no veil.  I've ordered these flower hair pins that are purple to match the bridesmaid dresses and my shoes, and they have some pearls mixed in, so they'll help tie everything together I think.

    I saw a bracelet I like that's a thin wire-like one, so I'll give some thought to that. :)

I'm getting really excited! The dress was even more beautiful on that I remembered the first time!
