Experiences with Tradesy.com?

I am considering buying a bridesmaid dress on Tradesy.com.  Do any of you have any experience with this site, good or bad?  I'm wondering if this is a legit site. Is there a difference between buying a used dress from a private seller vs buying a new dress from one of the "boutiques" selling through the site?  I found a dress that would be perfect if it truly is as advertised, but I'm wondering if the selling "boutique" could be a knock-off maker from China.  It says that it ships from the USA and I googled around and didn't find much.  With the "no return" policy, I thought I would ask before I took the plunge and ordered it.  Any experiences or advice that you have would be helpful.  Thanks!

  • I bought an Allure hair comb, tags attached, without a problem. That said, just e-mail the "boutique" selling it and ask a few questions (for example: where/when was it originally purchased?). Also, ask for additional photos. If someone actually has the dress, getting additional photos shouldn't be a problem. If they don't respond or won't take any, then I'd probably act with caution and avoid them.

  • I sold my dress on recycledbride.com, which is now tradesy.  it is a legit site, but it's basically like ebay.  Tradesy doesn't have ownership over any of the goods being sold there.  And yes, some of the china knockoff spots advertise on Tradesy.   If you decide to buy from there, ask all the right questions. Is this an authentic designer dress, or a remake?  Was it a sample?  Was it used or previously altered?   I have even heard of people asking to have the seller put a note in front of the actual dress, sort of like a ransom photo.  the note could say something like "July 28, 2014 - For Bebe43"!
  • I bought my wedding dress on tradesy and it was perfect!  However, my dress was from an individual selling her own dress.  They suggest you make any transactions through paypal or escrow.com so that both the buyer and seller are protected during the transaction.

They also have a Tradesy Trust Promise against any fakes.  That if you buy anything that turns out to be fake they will refund your purchase price.

  • I bought my gown on Tradesy.  I had emailed the seller, because she only had one little photo her ad, and it was a cropped pic of a model in the dress, like from a magazine.  I asked if she had more pics, and she ended up emailing me a few shots from her actual wedding, so I knew she was legit.  Ask about measurements, any alterations that may have been done to the dress, whether or not it has been cleaned (mine was not, but I think that is why I got such a good deal on it).  Info like this, and extra pics, will help you determine if you are truly buying a used gown, or a brand new knockoff.  I was super happy with my dress.  I never would have been able to afford the designer I wore if I had bought it new.  :)
