How do you regulars follow conversations?

edited August 2014 in Chit Chat
I've noticed many regulars are great at offering quick feedback and then followup with more replies. Sometimes I'll go hunting to see how the conversation finished or whatever but I just give up because the threads get buried. Do I have to star them all? I've been on here for several months but still feel lost.

  • If there is a thread I am interested in following, I bookmark it. (That is the star up by the title). That way I can go back whenever.

Yes, this.  I turned off all email notifications so it doesn't blow up my inbox.

Also sometimes I look at my own posting history if it's been a day or two, and check up on threads I responded to.

  • Unless it's something that I'm really, super interested in, I don't worry about it - there's so much new stuff every day it'd be impossible to try to keep up with every thread until it gets sufficiently buried. Otherwise, stars. :)

I am on, more or less, constantly. I read damn near every new post thread in Chit Chat, Etiquette, and Snark, and I check in on other boards pretty often. Particularly if I see something of interest on the main wedding board. I just go back and read responses when something says 'new'.

  • I don't bookmark anything. I just click around to the few boards I like to read, and see what has that pretty new flag calling my name. I don't come back to everything, but I generally have a decent memory of what was going on in each conversation and whether I wanted to check back in on it.

  • I look for the new flag, or when I'm working and not on till the evening, I look for the bat signal, or post with high response numbers.  Those tend to be more interesting.  I don't comment a lot though during the school year, cos everyone else tends to have covered what I would say anyway.

  • Gotta have something to make the night go by, otherwise I might have to talk to DH.  ;)

  • I look for the new flag and check my posting history if there is something I wanted to check back on.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Yeah if I see something that has 543796 new comments since I read it 2 minutes ago, I'm on it like white on rice, looking for drama.

I take the same approach. I don't read many boards regularly so miss a lot. If I come across a post with a zillion replies I just read the OP (or the quotes OP once they run away in tears) them skip to the end.

  • I hate my job so I'm on here all the time to avoid responsibilities. It makes it a lot easier to follow conversations when you check in a few times a day.

Ditto! I use lolo's method of just checking what has a "new" on it. I sit at a computer for work and they don't monitor use. Then I come home from work and FI likes to do his own thing with his video games (after we've eaten dinner and talked about our day) so I do this on my laptop while he's doing his thing for an hour or 2.

It helps the time go by a bit faster for sure.  I will be on the road for the majority of August though.  I feel like I am going to miss a lot :(
