Weekend Recap

How was everyone's weekend? Tell me all about it!

For me, this weekend has been fabulous. I'm so sad for it to end. We had so much fun and were really productive too. Friday I got my nails done, then FI and I did a bunch of unpacking and hanging at the apartment. Afterwards we cuddled on the couch and watched Attack on Titan, and I passed out around 11. Saturday we ran a ton of errands and finished cleaning the old apartment. Then Saturday night we went to a Tex-Mex restaurant nearby with a few friends, and everyone came over afterwards to see the new place and watch Sharknado 2. Guys, we drank SO MUCH alcohol. I'm still in shock about how much we drank. We went through a bottle of Patron, 2 giant bottles of sangria, and half a 12-pack of Summer Shandy. We drank like we were in college lol. It was so much fun though. It was one of those nights that I thought would be really low key but ended up being a bit raucous. FI ended up sick (methinks the combination of Tex-Mex, three tequila shots, sangria, and Angry Orchard was too much for his system), but even he still enjoyed the night. Today we slept in, caught a 2pm showing of Guardians of the Galaxy, ran some errands, booked excursions for our Cancun trip next week, and now we're vegging in front of our computers.

FI and I also reflected on the events of the summer with our friend J, and it's truly been a great summer. FI and I got engaged, moved into an awesome new apartment, and are getting ready to go to Cancun. Our friends are all in great places in their lives too-- two are starting grad school in the fall, our friends S and L bought a house earlier this summer, and everyone's in a great place career-wise. I'm happy that everyone's happy. It's just great overall.

What did everyone here do? I hope you all had a fantastic weekend too!

Re: Weekend Recap

  • This weekend was pretty decent for me. BF and I finished watching The Office (which was AWESOME, btw), had some big conversations about the immediate future and later future, and I drove home yesterday after a great week with him. But I got some not so great news once I got home, because my grandpa is back in the hospital dealing with pneumonia and stage 4 terminal cancer. When I went up to visit BF, my grandpa had just gotten out of the hospital, so it sucked to hear he was back in.

Today my best friend had her bridal shower, which was awesome. She had it at this awesome little tea house and everything was delicious. It was supposed to be a surprise shower (which wasn't information that was told to most of us guests) and I was pleased that I never let it slip, despite not knowing it was supposed to be a surprise. She ended up hearing about it from like four other people, but at least it wasn't me! Then we went to the mall and browsed after her shower, which was fun. I haven't seen her since she moved out of our townhouse at the end of the semester, so it was nice to catch up.

I hope everyone had a good weekend!
  • @eilis1228‌, that sounds like an amazing weekend of debauchery! Haha, glad your group of friends is in a great place overall.

@bookishgiraffes‌, that's so funny about your friend's "secret" shower - my best friend's was apparently supposed to be a secret as well, but only her immediate family got the memo??? I'm still amazed no one let it slip. Sorry to hear that your grandfather is not doing well. :(

My weekend sucked lollipops. I was sick starting Friday morning with chills, body aches, and a fever of 103, so I was pretty much immobilized Friday and Saturday. This morning I felt okay, so I did some grocery shopping and answered what felt like a billion review questions for my review class this week. Learning never ends, guys, at least apparently not for me, lol.
  • My weekend was Thursday/Friday. We went camping at Garibaldi Lake near Squamish BC. GORGEOUS. Long hikes though! It is 9 km to the lake (and about 1 km above your starting point...so not an easy one). We set up camp and then hiked to a ridge above the lake called Panorama Ridge. That is another 7 km and it is also a steep one at the end!

Here are some cell pictures. I haven't got the ones off my camera yet. We camped at the far right side of the lake.

I have to work the rest of the weekend...boo. I guess I should note that it is a civic holiday tomorrow so it is a long weekend :)

  • My weekend was kind of lame :(  FI has been in Canada so I missed him not being here.  Since he was out of country I couldn't talk to him much because he didn't have cell service.  We messaged each other through Whatsapp but only when he had wifi access, which wasn't often.  He should be home by the time I get off work tomorrow and I can't wait to see him and kiss him!

I tried to keep myself busy.  On Friday, my BFF/BM and her boyfriend came into the city and took me out for drinks.  They even paid for them which was super nice.  I had a lot of fun with them and it was nice to get out.

Saturday morning I went back to my hometown to baby sit my nephew. He's 2 1/2 and a wild man. It was a lot of fun. I love that kid more than anything so I enjoyed spending the day with him.  Once my sister got back, I drove over to my parents to visit them for a little bit. My dad took me out to eat at a Mexican restaurant that I love. After I ate, I stopped by my sisters again so she could run through my hairstyles.

Sunday I slept in and it was soooo nice.  I took my ring in for my 6 month inspection and cleaning.  Then I went and got groceries, came home, and worked on some WR things. I finished our escort card display.  Its been kind of bum weekend. I miss my FI so much!!!!

  • @ellis1228 just reading the mixture of what your fi consumed made my stomach go weird.

@bookishgiraffes I'm so sorry for your grandpa ;(
    @kaitlynmichelle that looks SOOO amazing!!!

My weekend was pretty great, Friday night I just lounged around with my little lady and my fi watching movies, Saturday my daughter and I went to St. Paul to go to a museum and the old fashioned candy store.  In the evening we had a bbq at the FMIL's house and I drank wine and we watched Signs for the millionth time!

Today we had lunch with my FMIL and my Fi's grandma who just recently had a scary stint in the hospital so it was nice to spend time with her. Afterwards we had to make a Target run for the "bear necessities" (when my daughter asked why we had to go to target I sang her that song) then we went and watched airplanes taking off at the international airport (my FI is in school to be a pilot so he's kind of a plane nerd).  I came home and did some homework and now here I am!

    @CLoGreenEyes - Hope you're feeling better!!

    @Kaitlynmichelle - That looks AMAZING.

@severmilli12 - YAY for FI coming home!!  Thanks for the reminder, I need to take my ring in.

@BreMR - Glad your FI's grandma is ok and you got to spend time with her!

    My Weekend:
Friday - I don't remember what we did.

Saturday - Got up super early for my bike ride.  My stats are:
    30.3mi - moving time: 2:12:10; Avg Speed 13.7MPH
Not bad for not having trained at all for it!!  One of these days, I'd love to get my Avg Speed up to 16MPH.

Went to Cleveland Gladiators game.  They BARELY won their playoff game.

Sunday - Chilled at home mostly.  Went to Target for a couple odds and ends.  Started going through my wedding budget again.

  • My weekend: Finished my summer teaching job around 8:30 on Friday (had to clean everything up. It took hours!), got home around 9ish, and went right to bed. Went to fiance's cousin's bridal shower early on Saturday. Was funnish. I didn't know that many people, so it was a little awkward at times. But they had brie and fig jam. YUM. We stayed overnight at FIL's house and got greasy Chinese food for dinner. Also ate that for lunch. Sunday, after returning home, I started freaking out-- I really need to find a job now! And I'm hard core PMSing which doesn't help the anxiety. I'm worried about leaving my field and taking something right away-- maybe a paralegal job, etc, and then never getting back into what I am trained to do. I'm also a little worried that I will eventually be disappointed in myself if I never teach at the college level and instead take a nice cushy private school position. Although, of course I would totally take that job. But it seems like someone needs to die first before one opens up. And I can't move out of state. FI is doing starting grad school here, and I just really can't imagine moving away from him. Wish me luck!
  • I had paragraphs.
  • (I'll go back and read everyone's, promise!)

Friday was great. I went riding and Bo was perfect so we ended on a good day. It was our anniversary month day (we do the 1st of every month as our date night.) FI made me a door sign for Bo's stall that was adorable.

Saturday we hung out at his parents. I went to Things Remembered and got the free tag for being a bride. That was fun. We also browsed wedding bands. FI found his and I think I just want a simple white gold band that matches and fits up against my e-ring.

Sunday I hung out at the barn while FI worked. Nothing really big.

The only big news I have is that I have an interview today and another one on Thursday. The one today I'm not as excited about, but the one Thursday is at my alma mater for a great position with a huge pay increase and I want it so badly! I'm trying not to let it go to my head, but I'm just excited.

  • My weekend had a lot of ups and downs. Friday night our family had a very unexpected event happen and I'm sure @LaPeanut1018 will comment on this as well. Our family dog, Bella, had to be put down due to a rupture next to her spleen or liver. She was very lethargic and wouldn't eat all day Friday so my parents took her to the vet that evening. Around 9:00p.m. I get a call saying that I need to come meet them at the vet because Bella isn't in a good state and will need to be put down most likely. Our only options were a blood transfusion since she had lost so much internally and then they would need to operate on the tumor that ruptured. This would still maybe only give her a short time with us if the surgery succeeded so we decided it was best to just end her suffering and let her go. She was so uncomfortable and I could just see how bad she was feeling. We all just laid down on the floor with her and cried and talked about all our special memories with her. She was an amazing pet and everyone loved her. My heart is still breaking from that night but I know she is so much better now that she isn't in pain. I'm going to miss her all the time. Here is a picture of our precious Bella:

Besides that, my weekend went by pretty fast. We celebrated H's and his mom's bdays Saturday and Sunday. It was difficult to be in the celebratory mood but I managed to still enjoy surprising H all day Sunday. He absolutely loved all the gifts and the Trifle...NOMS!
  • My weekend wasn't too exciting.  Friday we cleaned the house a bit and empty all of our cabinets in prep for the new countertops being installed today.   We also got our wedding photos! We got 4 cd's worth of all of the original and our photographer also made us a copy of every single wedding picture he took.  We spent a few hours on Friday looking over them, it has to be well over 600 photos.  I love them so much.

Saturday H went for his MRI, ILS came over helped the with demolition of the old counters and hung out for a little while.  I also got to show them the wedding photos.  Then we ran to home depot and got dinner, nothing exciting. Sunday I ran some errands and did some grocery shopping, and just relaxed most of the day.  For some reason this weekend went by way too fast.

  • I'm so sorry, @southernpeach89 and @LaPeanut1018.  it's so hard to lose a furry family member.
  • @ellis1228 - What excursions did you book for Cancun?  When are you going again?  I'm jealous.

@CLoGreenEyes - Ugh.  I'm sorry you were sick.  That sounds aweful.

@severmilli12 - Is your ring nice and shiny again?  I need to get mine cleaned.

@Dignity100 - Congrats on the successful bike ride!

@Blackbird230 - Good luck on the interviews!

@southernpeach89 and @lapeanut1018 - I'm so, so, so sorry about Bella.  Loosing a pet is like loosing a piece of yourself.  ALL the hugs.

@TwoDimes - Congrats on booking the photog!!!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I posted an update in my original housing rant post but Friday H and I closed on our house! We were so excited to be done with this housing process and get closed.  We spent most of the weekend celebrating and calling contractors to do projects.  We need to refinish the floors (about 1300 sq ft of wood), paint, build a fence for the dog and make a 1/2 bath a full bath before we move in...though we may live without the full bath project for now.

In other news our dog almost ran out into a street.  He got loose from H and decided to play a game of "catch me" with him.  Thankfully I heard H from inside the house trying to catch him and I managed to intervene (he, the dog, looked so guilty when I called his name to get him to stop).  I can't wait for a fully fenced yard...sneaky little bastard...he can't help himself with his wanderlust.

I can't wait to AW pictures of the house when we get a few projects done though ladies!  So pumped.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss @southernpeach89 & @lapeanut1018.

  • @bookishgiraffes I love The Office! One of my favorite shows! What did you think of it?

@CLoGreenEyes Oh no! Are you feeling better? Was is it the flu?

@kaitlynmichelle Holy moly those pics are gorgeous. Wow!

@severmilli12 TONIGHT!!!! Yay! How is his stomach? Have the meds helped with the pain while he's been gone?

@BreMR Aw, what a great weekend! I love old fashioned candy stores... and also, now I have that song stuck in my head. :-P

@Dignity100 Way to go! Sounds like a successful ride, and your time is fantastic!

@lilacck28 *hugs* It will all work out! Even if you take a job now in an unrelated field, as long as you force yourself to keep looking, then you'll find something in your field. And if you do get a private school job, it's not like you have to stay there forever. Or, hey, you may get a job in a private school and fall in love with it. You never know. But seriously, don't panic. You got this!

@Blackbird230 I'm crossing my fingers for you this week! Good luck! Also, post pics of the bands when you get them :)

@southernpeach89 and @LaPeanut1018 I'm so sorry for your loss! *hugs*

@Peaseblossom55 Any favorite pics of the bunch? Also, I'd love to see your counters once they're installed. :)

@TwoDimes Woohoo! So excited that you guys booked a photographer! Yay! What movie did you see?

@minskat30 YAY YOU CLOSED! SO EXCITED!!! I know you guys are happy to have that stress behind you. Can't wait to see pics of the house! For Cancun, we're going August 10-16. We're staying at the Fiesta Americana Condesa, which is all inclusive. I've never been to an all-inclusive resort, so I'm pretty excited. We booked two excursions: 1. Cenote swimming, lunch, then Chichen Itza tour; 2. ATV and zip lining. So excited!

@CocoBellaF Aw, sorry to hear about the migraine. I'm glad it went away the next day though. Sounds like you hit the shopping jackpot! That's awesome! And the cake sounds fabulous. I may or may not be drooling a little bit...

  • @eilis12128 there were so many pictures I loved, most of which were posted on my photographers blog that I posted here about two weeks ago.  I'm hoping tonight to take a picture of the new counters.

  • My weekend "up north" was amazing. We had a lot of fun on the water and had a great time downtown. They had live bands in most of the bars every night, so I was excited to dance with BF and have a good time. I drank a lot and ate a lot. Now, my body hates me.

This morning...I am not doing so well. My friend texted me before work to confirm that she does have cancer and it is rare. She has undifferentiated myxoid sarcoma. Carcinoma is what the biopsy results came back as. Cancer of the muscle. Her doctor decided on the plan of three rounds of chemo. They are doing three days of chemo every three weeks. Then, she takes a break. Then, she does radiation. Then, they will check the size and go from there. I am beyond heartbroken for her. She just got married at the end of June, and she is so young (22). She shouldn't have to be a new wife and go through something like this.

I am trying to figure out a chemo gift basket for her. I want to get a thirty one bag (see picture) for her to use during her chemo. I would include the following: a magazine, lemon drops for the bad taste you get from chemo, kleenex, a water bottle, Germ X, and a journal. Should I include anything else?
    image

  • @justbeingme93 - does she like to read books, do puzzles, or anything like that?  what about a cute hat or scarf for her to use when/if she starts losing hair?  I think you could also include some cute socks...  anytime I am at the doctor, my feet just freeze, so I carry socks with me.  or maybe some pretty lip gloss, smelly lotion (if she can wear it), or just something to make her feel "pretty" when the chemo and radiation is taking its toll.  maybe some ginger ale or those ginger chews, for when the chemo makes her feel sick?

I am so sad for your friend!!  I hope that she does wonderfully with the chemo and radiation and comes out cancer-free!
  • @southernpeach89 and @LaPeanut1018 I am so sorry about Bella. Losing a family pet is absolutely losing a family member. I wish that I could give more besides internet hugs :(

My weekend was VERY uneventful, mainly because I was trying very hard to rest. My mom came over to help make some flowers for the wedding, and to help me test our favors (sea glass hard candy). We mostly talked about all the family drama, both the current drama, and the past drama dealing with my dad. I don't get to see my mom much anymore, so I had a lot of fun. And the hard candy recipe WORKED. I still have to figure out a plan to make it as easy as possible to make a TON of candy in one weekend in November (the hard candy only stays fresh for 1-2 weeks max); it was very time consuming to break up the candy, get the pieces off of the baking sheet, and dust them with sugar.

  • @lapeanut1018 & @southernpeach89 - I am so so sorry to hear about Bella. Violet & I are sending you & your family all of the Golden loves we can muster. I saw your posts on Facebook over the weekend, and wished I had your numbers so I could text you.

@justbeingme93 - I'm so sorry about your friend's diagnosis. My mom drank a lot of ginger ale - she was always really thirsty, and it also helps with the nausea. For the water bottle, one of the ones with a lid & straw is good, because they're easy to drink from. Also, some chapstick/lip balm, again, for the dryness. Does she have a Kindle or an iPod/iPad? Maybe a gift card to Amazon or iTunes, for those chemo days. I'll ask my mom for some other suggestions too, of things she loved or needed during those days.

    **********

My weekend was good. Friday, FI & I cleaned the apartment for our weekend visitors. Saturday, his best friend/groomswoman & her husband got to our place around noon. We went to DB so she could try on dresses & she found one! It has some really pretty, but subtle beading on the top.
    image

I also tried on a couple other dresses. I know, I know, but I wanted to be sure. I wasn't having dress REGRET, but more... am I SURE I tried on enough? I had so many flowy ones in mind, and then I ended up with something so not like what I thought I would get, so she encouraged me to try on a couple more, and then mine again, so that I would know. The other two were really pretty, but she could see it all over my face that I didn't LOVE them. When I walked out in mine, I was convinced. It's MY dress, for sure. :)

After that, we went to Target & I picked up some cheap Crayola watercolors, because I want to try to paint our invites. I designed the actual invite in InDesign, and I LOVE how they came out. So we'll get them printed on cream/ivory, and then I'll get some real watercolors & a really good brush, and paint them! I'm excited - I think it will be cool because we're getting married at an art gallery, and also because (even though no one else will really know this), every invite will be different & special.

Then we went to Bonefish Grill and ate. THEN went home and drank our faces off. Seriously, I haven't had that much to drink in a really long time. We played Cards Against Humanity for like four hours, until we couldn't even read the cards anymore. I was a hungover mess ALL.DAMN.DAY yesterday. I'm far too old for those shenanigans. I still have a little headache today, in fact.

  • Thank you everyone for the comments. It really helps even if it's only through the internet lol. @GoldenPenguin Thank you for the Golden Retriever loves! Give Violet a big big hug for us.
  • @lapeanut1018 & @southernpeach89, I am SO sorry about Bella!

@minskat30, YAY about the house!  Boo about Raja being a sneaky bugger.

    ---

My weekend was pretty good.  I hung out with DH, got sushi one night, went to the farmer's market, and relaxed.  Last night, DH and I went out to celebrate our 2nd anniversary a day in advance.  We went to an amazing steakhouse and had a 5 course dinner with wine pairing.  It was DELICIOUS, but I woke up this morning STILL full and with pretty severe stomach pain.

I cannot WAIT to see the gastroenterologist because it shouldn't hurt this bad because I ate a full meal.  I'm convinced that my bastard of a gallbladder is behind this and needs to be removed ASAP.
  • @southernpeach89 and @LaPeanut10 I am sorry for your losses. It is never easy to lose a special friend.

@CocoBellaF thank you. Those are some great ideas. She LOVES to read, so I will have to include a new book. The socks and ginger are a great idea as well.

@Dignity100 I like your photo book idea! I know her new MIL is making her a quilt, so I will let her handle that. I just want her to be as comfortable as she can be and feel loved.

@GoldenPenguin thank you for the advice. I will have to search for a good water bottle. I don't know if she has a kindle or nook. I will have to look into that. That would be great if you could ask your mom for more ideas.
