Would I be a weirdo if...

I used my apartment's pool to swim laps? It's 35 yards long (I checked with the apt. complex).

I usually lurk around here, but you ladies always have solid opinions. I don't really want to spend the money for a public pool, but I can definitely suck it up, if needed.

So, as long as I'm not causing toddlers to be swamped by my wake, what do you think?

Re: Would I be a weirdo if...

  • Why not? I would use it for laps if I had a pool.

  • I'd try it too at a time when there are fewer kids.  It would be for your piece of mind too, so that you're not having to constantly dodge around swimming/playing kids.  Maybe earlier in the morning, or later at night??

  • You are fine!

  • Good thoughts, all! I appreciate it. I definitely don't want I be a nuisance so I would definitely scout it out before I jumped in to start swimming laps.

Although dodging toddlers could add an obstacle course element to the swim...right?

  • Go for it.  Just pick times of day that are less crowded.  Personally, if I saw someone was swimming laps I'd keep my kid to the other side of the pool so as not to get in your way.

  • You are only a weirdo if you wear a swim cap and US Olympic-branded swim attire. Otherwise- go for it!

  • Certainly fine as long as you're not disrupting anybody else's pool time.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Not if you were generally courteous.
  • As long as you don't pee in the pool, I don't care.

I just finished swimming! No one at all at the pool so I had it all to my self, which was awesome. And I totally rocked my bright pink swim cap!

Waist length hair is not fun when making turns...so yes, I was a bit of a weirdo in my cap and goggles. I'll embrace it!

Sweet! I'd rock it too! :) Cap is better for the hair.

I'm going to dunk my head in some conditioner before I swim next time, it makes the cap go on easier and beauty bonus...plus, plus! I forgot about that tip from when I used to swim (although I had a pixie cut then so it didn't matter so much. Think Audrey Hepburn in "Sabrina," hair.)

  • I definitely hear you on the long hair and swimming=not fun!  I don't have a swim cap yet though, so I just braid mine.  Now I've got about 4 more inches to hit waist length but still, tangles are no joke.  Glad you had a good swim and I agree it's not weird at all even if other people are there.
  • Wearing the proper gear for the situation never makes one a weirdo!  But I have been a swimmer for nearly 20 years so the thought of swimming without a cap, goggles or workout suit (no bikinis here!) makes me shudder.
  • I was actually thinking of doing this myself not too long ago. I have chronic pain and most exercise hurts me even more, so I figured swimming would be soothing. I'm glad I won't look like a weirdo!

Oh, everyone pees in pools. The urine is sterile and the pool's full of chlorine. Embrace it!
