Re: XP: Which favor would you prefer?

  • I would normally vote for an edible option but stale cider donuts make me sad.

I'd go for something edible with a longer shelf life or a bottle opener. I'd leave the cookie cutter on the table.

  • I vote food.  If you are worried about the last minute work on the donuts perhaps something else with longer shelf life?  We did chocolate covered pretzel rods.

Here is how we did them: started working on dipping the rods 2 weeks before the wedding.  After dipping them and they were cool they were then stored in gallon bags.  Then on the Saturday morning before our Friday wedding, I got them all out and layed them on sheet pans.  I melted 2 colored chocolates to match my wedding colors and then poured that chocolate into small piping bags and then drizzled it over the pretzel rods so that they had our wedding colors on them.  Waited another hour and then placed them in the food safe bags and tied them closed.  There were none left on the tables at the end of the night!  I used Michaels coupons to buy the chocolate.  Purchased the food safe bags off ebay.  Watched my local food ads for when they had the tubs of pretzel rods on sale.  Our venue required us to drop all our stuff off on Monday before the wedding, so that is why we worked on them so early.  But you can delay that timeline a few days.

  • 1. Donut
    2. Bottle opener
    3. Cookie cutter

I personally would enjoy any of them, but I love to bake, drink, AND eat cider donuts. Do you think you could freeze the donuts? I've never tried, but that may be an option so you're not rushing around the day before. For my wedding we did choc chip cookies and I experimented a couple months in advance with freezing them. Did all the baking and putting in bags the week before, and then popped them into boxes the day before the wedding. Not sure if that would work with donuts, though.
  • Another vote for the donut.

Can you set up a donut station for guests as they leave? They can have them with dessert or to bag and take home?

We did a candy bar as our favor and that was a big hit.  I'm with everyone else that doesn't like to take useless junk home.

  • Another leaf shaped option would be maple sugar candies.  They're normally shaped like leaves and are sooo good.  And they won't go stale, so you can put them together in advance.
  • Another vote for edibles.

  • I like something I would eat. I have left behind so many cookie cutters, salt & pepper shakers, etc.

Cider donuts are MY FAVE. We thought about having them in place of cake, but we got married in July in north Florida, so not in cider donuts land.

That said, cider donuts taste best when pulled right out of a fryer. Can you do a trial and see how they are when packaged and on tables? I would be so sad to have to eat a cold one that was stale :(

I know, first world problems. But, you know....
