Chit Chat

How much of your time spent on these forums simply entertainment?

FI asked the other day whether TK was just entertainment for me now.  I think this is because I spent so much time lurking and chatting while choosing my dress, and he thinks I should be done with now that that part is over.

I do love being a member here, chatting with certain other members about a whole range of topics, and (hopefully) providing some help to some other brides.  I did also have a big plan for what I was going to do tonight and have been on here for about five hours, so yes, I do spend time here to be amused.

How about you guys?

  • I am mostly here to chat with the other ladies, and now it's only tangentially wedding-related.  I do still ask wedding questions as needed and I've learned a lot from reading others' questions.

Hence why I mostly hang out on Chit Chat.  To chit chat!

Pretty much ditto this. Providing OMH advice to the brides and chatting with the other ladies.

  • I am here for the chitchat and for the questions/advice. I NEED TO KNOW SO MANY THINGS.

  • I love chit chatting with all of you lovely ladies! Keeps me company when am all alone :(

  • I'm so pleased that I'm not alone!  There's so much I don't know, and a lot of the advice I get is just outright confusing (either my friends/family are really rude, or Australian weddings are totally different to American ones) so it gives me tons to think about it.

It's great having people to chat with.  It's funny though.  TK was widely suggested to me as the snarkiest wedding community out there, but I've found almost everyone really great to chat to, and super supportive when other ladies are down or suffering.  Those I didn't were mostly new members who were impolite.  I'm so pleased I ditched some of those other groups.

  • I'm so early on in the wedding planning process that I'm here for entertainment and to learn as much as I can.

  • I'm pretty much here to chat. I don't ever really leave Chit Chat anymore except to check my checklist. Of course since the Great Clustercuss of May '14, I haven't been able to post from my phone so I mostly just lurk now because it's a mission to get online with the computer.

  • Mostly entertainment but I love weddings and wedding talk, so I'm here to help others.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • This is what gets me through work on boring days.  Mostly, I enjoy reading the threads. I am not that talkative, but I am usually here reading.
  • I mean I lurked a LOT before.  Basically, I got engaged in March, started lurking a little around then and it built over the summer, after I graduated in May.  Recently, FI has started working out of town during the week, so my evenings that used to be spent with us cooking, eating, cleaning, relaxing together are now spend here on TK.  It doesn't help that I just tutor part time, so I currently have a lot of free time, so yes, this is pure entertainment for me at this point.

  • My three are grown now so I enjoy the point of view of these younger ladies. Still more family weddings to come so I stay. There not a day that goes by that I don't learn something.
  • I lurk a lot, it keeps me entertained on slow days at work.

I think what I like about having the Knot boards right now is the ability to be all "Yay! Weddings!" without bothering my friends and family or letting wedding planning consume my life.

I have gotten a lot out of these boards.  All of the etiquette advice has been fantastic, but more so I have been having a hard time with my family, and reading about other people's experiences and/or venting about my current circumstances to internet strangers has been a great outlet.

  • i lurk a looooooooooooooooooot, too.  like, a lot.  i should have jumped in much sooner bc i feel like i know" a lot of you guys when i actually don't.
  • I mainly come here for entertainment purposes. I like to hang out on Chit Chat and then occasionally other boards to help with advice. I do post (rarely) questions about my own wedding. Mainly it has been attire because for some reason I'm having a hard time with that.

  • Ditto nearly everyone. Probably a pretty common sentiment across the Chit Chat board. I have the occasional wedding planning question, and like to see everyone else's choices when they post them, give feedback when I can, but mostly I like the chatter.

  • I love weddings and wedding talk, but I am also here for the entertainment as well as filling up the endless boring hours at work.

    you give GREAT advice, too.
  • I'm already married, so it's pretty much all for entertainment. And also because I'll take any chance to share my opinions on stuff.

*SITB* (I tried refreshing and going back, but still stuck)

We might be the same person, haha!  Like I lurk/lurked (I guess it can be past tense now??) so much that I felt like it might be weird to jump in because it's a situation where I feel like I have gotten to "know" some of the posters, but obviously they don't know me.  This is how it felt to finally comment:

    YES!  You get it! :)
  • I spend most of my work time here. lol

  • I lurk every day but post pretty infrequently.

It helps to read everyone else's posts and questions and it's highly entertaining! Sometimes I get the giggles here in my office and people will give me odd looks when they walk by. Sometimes the receptionist will hear me and come in to see what I'm up to. I just make shit up when that happens.

  • @flantastic (Sorry, I tried to quote you, but TK is being wonky at the moment) Yep! :) I know people's signature's helped me follow who they were more than the avatar, so I really wanted to have one.

  • Mostly entertainment, and to vent. Most of my posts are here and are NWR, any questions I have I usually find the answer to without having to start the 7 millionth thread on the topic.

  • I'm on here now probably for 95% entertainment :) I read a lot, don't post too frequently because of work and mobile.

I'm with everyone else. I love to hear about your lives and what's going on!

  • In a way, yes. I joined when I was engaged, but I stuck around after we broke up (except for a few month break to recover from that) because I like the conversation and controversy.  I can throw in my opinions on colors, food, cake, etc, from a guest perspective, and offer my experience as an attendant. I can also discuss what I'd planned for the wedding that didn't happen.  So I guess a lot of it is entertainment, but I feel like I have something to offer too.
  • I'm here for the entertainment! It's really boring here during the summer since everyone is gone. I mainly stay on Chit Chat, Attire, and NEY. I really like talking to all you guys and the threads are a lot of fun.
