SORRY IT'S REFUSING PARAGRAPHS Is it still illegal to pump your own gas in NJ? That is just the weirdest thing ever. I've done my own since I was 16 and it sucks in the winter when it's 5 degrees and wind is fucking you in the face and hands. I also do the furniture/ graph/ measurement combo! My FWP- I was told to be ready at 8:30am on Saturday for my bachelorette party. Yay but WTF, after this crazy week at work, I want sleep! And I'm not supposed to know we're going to the ocean but I have severe anxiety because I always bring my umbrella and cooler of food to the beach. So I'm worried no one will bring my appropriate goods and I'll be parched...waaah
yep..   Yet they have some of the most reasonable gas prices around.

When we drive between my parents and his mom we travel the NJ Turnpike.  We always get gas.  Even on the turnpike it can be cheaper than LI, NY.

^^^ Yep, this. Considering how expensive everything else is around here, it's nice knowing our gas is cheaper than a good portion of the country AND someone else pumps it for you. I've noticed that it's usually cheaper the further south we go from where we live until you get closer to Philly where it starts to get expensive again.

Anywho, I guess my first world problem today would be writing my exam today.  They allotted 3 hours for it, but I sped right through it, apparently.  So I had to sit in the library and Facebook until my ride came and then I could come home and, you know, facebook and Knot at home.

THIS WAS MY FIRST THOUGHT TOO!

  • Get whatever massage service involves chocolate.

I'm trying to eat SUPER well to get myself back on track so I fit into this damn dress, but there's a happy hour at work today with free beer and pizza. Damn my luck.
this doesn't count.  This is a real problem.
It got worse. Went to collect my free pizza and beer and instead of the usual Miller Light, they splurged for local craft beer... and it was all icky IPAs. Come on people, would it kill ya to throw some Belgian wheat in the mix?! The struggle is real, ya'll. At least they had deep dish Hawaiian.

Thankfully, my new Old Navy compression pants should be waiting on my front porch, ready for the gym tonight.
eww, beer.  I'm so not a beer drinker.  & I don't like deep dish OR hawaiian pizza.  that would have made me sad.

Well they had like 12 kinds of pizza, including thin crust. And wine, which I found after I opened my beer.

No it is terrible. Source: from Oregon.

Rather than taking care of your car right away, you wait for one of two had attendants. That have no motivation to move quickly so depending on the station, sometimes it is can be a bit. Then after your car is done filling, you wait again for them to come out the pump away. It lengthens the process significantly.

I never experienced waits in Sam Francisco, San Jose, Phoenix, Boise, or any other State, quite like I have in Oregon. Paying to make the process longer is not my idea of a good system.

I honestly never had a real problem with the system in NJ.    Sure the Turnpike stations tend to have longer lines, but as a state overall it's not been any issue.   The stations on the PA turnpike can be long also and you have to pump your own gas.   So I think of it was a turnpike thing, not a full service thing.

At least in NJ, the gas is reasonable to cheaper than surrounding states, the law creates and and maintains jobs and I don't have to get out of my car.

I don't even live in Portland and almost every gas station I go to in Beaverton and Hillsboro has been slow. Now there are a few exceptions and they get my business when I'm in the area, but the Safeway and Chevron (pretty much the only two gas stations within two miles of my house) are slow always. There is almost always a line and they are understaffed and in no rush. There was one kid who worked there who would run between cars and was super friendly, I always gave him an extra five for making our fill ups fast.

I moved to Idaho then Colorado then California, now Arizona and I have never seen lines like I do I'm Oregon. So I'm pretty grumpy about it when I visit home, but I can understand why some people might like the system. I just dont.

It's it really the system or the companies under-staffing?   Staffed properly the system works fine. Being understaffed it will not.

Do you guys tip the gas attendants? I remember that was a thing when I was a kid (there are hardly any stations around here with gas attendants anymore).

  • The whole time I was engaged, I kept saying that FI and I just didn't have the time to buy a house, plan a wedding AND plan a honeymoon. I told my mom that I recognized it was a total FWP because we can more than afford to do all of the above, so it wasn't a financial stress.

    Just a time stress.

I've never had a problem either, and I've traveled extensively throughout NJ. Some stations are busier than others, sure. Some times of day and days of the week are busier than others, too. I've been seeing some of the stations with bigger pumps equip the employees with headsets so they can control the flow of traffic better. I've never waited any longer to fill up gas here than I've had to wait in other states to fill up.

  • Ugh I worked out this morning only to realize that there is no hot water. :( Cue me taking the fastest, least cleansing shower ever. Luckily I was planning to hit the pool later.
  • I went to Chickfila for lunch and got the grilled chicken club sandwich...only to realized they gave me just the basic grilled chicken sandwich. I'd like to lie and say I'm upset because I paid for the club...

but really it's because I wanted the cheese and bacon.

Thanks Chickfila for forcing me to stick to my diet =(
    Anniversary

  • I just went to get coffee from the breakroom and it was a little cold, so I warmed it up, but now it's too hot. Also we didn't have internet at work for the last 20 minutes. I was almost forced to actually work.
  • I'm glad I live in Jersey. I had to get gas last night in the rain. A very nice high school kid pumped my gas and swiped my credit card in the machine. I can count on one hand the number of times I had to pump my own gas.

My first world problem - there were too many cakes to choose from at the supermarket. We're celebrating August birthdays at work and I stared at the dessert case for a solid 5 minutes before I picked something out to bring back to the office.
My best friend is in NJ. She refuses to get a car when she visits me because she's scared of pumping her own gas. It's kind of hysterical.
I was on a trip once with a friend from NJ.  We had to get gas, so we stopped at a gas station and I got out to pump it. She started flipping out, saying only trained professionals were able to pump gas and that we could die.  I had no idea it's illegal to pump your own gas in NJ.  I just laughed.

I'm bummed because last night I went to open my bottle of Blue Fin Riesling but noticed before opening it that a bunch of crap was floating around in the bottle.  Turns out it was improperly corked so bits of mold started to grow and now I have to go back to Trader Joe's to return it.  Super sad face.

Side note: Tried Smoking Loon 2012 Unoaked Chardonnay last night and it was pretty good!

  • I get to go to Six Flags for free tonight, and I don't really feel like going.

  • Here's my first world problem: my e-ring and wedding band were made by different jewelers. Both are white gold. I gave the place that made my band my e-ring so they could match it. But my e-ring yellows way faster than my wedding band. I got married in April,. My wedding band is still silver, but my e-ring is starting to turn yellow. I'm upset at the e-ring maker for making a subpar ring, but I'm also upset at my wedding band maker for not matching its subparness.

I hope you asked for extra ranch dressing
I ended up getting a chicken cordon bleu sub and splitting it with my mom. A MILLION times better than a salad. I hate salad.

    Forever extra *********RAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNCCCCHHHHHHHH************

I might need to find a somewhat relevant gif to doctor into an extra ranch thing for use on this board.

We got all-chad 9 months before the wedding.   The couple who gave it to us thought it was odd we were not using them.  They said if they wanted us to wait they would have given it to us 9 months later.

Fair enough, we busted them out.

  • The hospital usually offers some type of fruit filled pancakes for breakfast. I do not like fruit filled things, so I asked for regular, plain pancakes. I was told that wasn't possible. What??? How difficult is it to make plain pancakes? Of course, they were able to offer me Belgian Waffles. Really? Belgian Waffles but no pancakes???
