Nevada-Las Vegas

Week before vegas and honeymoon after...

Hey all, I'm travelling over from the UK for our wedding Sept 15 for 3 weeks, the middle week will be in Vegas for the wedding, now just deciding where to go week before and week after. Any suggestions? ideally direct flights to and from Vegas. Options I'm currently thinking about are; Calafornia - Las Vegas - Hawaii Florida - Las Vegas - Mexico Also wondering if there are any direct flights from Vegas to the Carribean?

Re: Week before vegas and honeymoon after...

  • No direct flights from Vegas to the Caribbean. The usual port of entry to the Caribbean is Puerto Rico. But if you go to Florida (I'm originally from FL), some airlines fly directly to Caribbean locations. If you go to California, you can access Hawaii from there. So excited for you!
  • There are lots of great places in California to go to. I don't think there is a direct flight from Vegas to Hawaii. You have to stop in Cali first.

  • There are direct flights from Vegas to Hawaii through Hawaiian Airlines. I just put a random date in on Expedia for Sunday, September 21 and there are 3 direct flights that day.

    California is great too! Enjoy!

  • Oh that's good to know. I was not aware of that.

  • The only reason I knew they flew direct to Hawaii is when we went in January one of our options coming home was Hawaii/Oahu to Vegas and then home to Calgary. We seriously considered doing an extended layover in Vegas lol

  • I would probably not go further west only because ending your honeymoon and having to go from Hawaii all the way back to UK would be kind of brutal.

I'm happy to promote Florida. :-)  If you are looking for simple beach lounging, it's hard to beat St Pete Beach.  Direct flight from Vegas to Tampa, 4.5 hours, 45 minute drive to St Pete Beach.  It's not a tourist trap like Clearwater, so you'll have tons of beach to yourself, it's huge and powdery white sand, lots of restaurant and beach bar options.  My wife and I go there nearly every weekend; we love it.

  • Thanks for all your replies guys, all good to know.  I had seen that there are direct flights to Honolulu from Vegas, but had two concerns; As Vegasgroom says this is travelling (quite a long way!) in the wrong direction for home and as much as I'd love to go to Hawaii I don't want to return from a 3 week holiday needing another holiday!, secondly, the flight is only to Honolulu, so to get to an idyllic type Hawaii island rather than the capital, would mean another internal Hawaiian flight...

Sooo many decisions to make.  Other half thinks a week in Orlando the week before Vegas is too much, I'm dying to go to the Disney Parks, but sensibility I think that needs to be another holiday.

I will look into Tampa - sounds lovely, thank you :)

Any votes for Mexico, we were looking at the Excellence resorts?

  • Another option no one mentioned was that you could take a cruise to Mexico/Carribean.  It's a great way to see 3 or 4 different cities/countries.   We're taking a 7 day cruise that leaves from Galveston TX (near Houston) to Cozumel MX, Belize and Honduras.
We had our dream wedding in Las Vegas - 11.29.2014
  • We are taking the same cruise @KrisLSmiley...super excited as it's my first cruise :)

  • I've done NY to Vegas from the UK before. Last year after our wedding we hired a car for two weeks driving to LA and San Diego. Next year we're going back to Vegas then heading to San Francisco, we're driving but you can get direct flights too. San Diego was great I'd consider going there. We flew out to vegas on the Sun and got married on the Wed, I was glad to get the wedding over with so to speak so we could relax for the rest of our holiday - just a thought. Is there a reason you're doing the wedding in the middle week?

Excellence is awesome; so much better than Sandals in every way except there's no butler service option, but I'd probably still do it over Sandals.

September is the cheapest time to visit Orlando because their season is ending and the weather is starting to cool down. When i say cool down i mean 70-80s, its still HOT. Orlando is alot of fun, the themeparks arent cheap but they are entirely worth it! Also the water parks are so much fun and the weather is perfect that time of year.  If you rent a car you can easily make a beach day trip to Cocoa Beach or Clearwater/Tampa area.

If you want something more relaxing I would suggest a cruise through the Caribbean. The Norwegian just started sailing with a new boat out of the Port of Miami that is HUUUUUUGE

I live in South Florida, so if you choose Florida and want any advice I can help you.

Im sure there are direct flights from Orlando, I fly direct out of Fort Lauderdale through JetBlue.
  • Hi

We now live in fl, after the wedding in Las Vegas we are def going to hawaii.........
Found really cheap fares with Allegent (compared to AA or Hawaian Airlines)

We have a timeshare which we can use in Hawaii so all we have to pay for is food/drinks etc

Deciding between Waikola & Honolulu - Honolulu more (extra plane not needed to get to island)
Want combination of relaxing/activities i.e volcanoes, beach, walking, pool, bar (50/50)

Decided on where your going? any thoughts welcome (were mid 30's, no kids, 1st time Hawaii)

  • The long journey home (back to Scotland!) from Hawaii is putting us off, hence thinking Mexico instead. I've never been to Hawaii either so no recommendations for you unfortunately... We are not getting married until Sept 15 - actual wedding is booked but we still have at least a month until a good selection of flights and hotels are available... Too many options!!
  • Hi
    Ok thank you
How about cancun or a cruise (carnival is cheap and fun - could get a suite)

    :)
  • my all time favorite - Kaanapali Beach in Maui :-)
    You can't go wrong there
  • Thank you
Ill be sure to look into it
  • Keep in mind beautiful southern California (where I live!) is just a 3-4 hour drive from Vegas!!!
