    Blah, triple post.
  • Clearly TK thought your words were so profound they ought to be triplicated, @sarahbear31

  • Ok, sorry for taking over your post to talk religion OP. While yes catholics and Christians are similar it is not 100% the same. church is way different at a catholic church than a Christian church. http://www.diffen.com/difference/Catholicism_vs_Christianity

what dont you understand. iI was simply saying most churches iI have been to allow alcohol.  iI am catholic so 90%  of the events have been at catholic churches. but iI have also been to baptist events, christian church events. and another but not sure what denomination it was. iI only asked because iI was curious. see never knew the methodist church didnt allow gambling. now iI am going to go google the other church iI went to with my friend years ago for casino night.
I find it unbelievable that you think that all churches have the same rules as the Catholic church,  The level of this ignorance is astonishing, and somewhat offensive.  Have you ever heard of the Reformation?  Taking alcohol into most Protestant churches is a huge offense.  Some even forbid dancing.

and here, no need to say I am ignorant or offensive. this is why I asked the question to begin with.

I am not a Catholic.  This is offensive to me.  The Catholic Church is the ORIGINAL Christian church.  All other Christian churches have their historical roots in it.  For heaven's sake, get some education!  I can't believe how ignorant you are!

She did not say that YOU are ignorant / offensive. She said the comment was. There is a big difference.

My own religious background?  Growing up I attended regularly Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist, and Episcopalian churches.  My family moved frequently, and my mother used church as a free daycare so she could ditch me for a couple of hours on Sunday.
As an adult, I often drove my step-siblings to Mass at the Catholic Church.  As a professional organist, I worked for Southern Baptists for seven years.  I was also friends with a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, and I learned about her beliefs so that I would not do anything that might be a problem when our children played together.  They have very strict rules.
It is a much more varied background than most people have.  The only time I have a problem with them is when one group decides that another group "isn't really Christian" without knowing the facts.

  • Off course you should try avoiding it only if you are ready then take your own chances. Or try something different like non-alcoholic drinks or beverages.

  • Have u ever been to mass at a catholic church and then to mass at a christian church?? The mass is way different. Catholics have a certain way of doing things. 1st reading, 2nd reading, gospel, homily, then prep for communion. Christian churches do not. Again, no need for name calling. I have stated they are pretty much the same, but different. If you went to the different churches you would see. I went to a catholic school from k-12 and we went to church once a week with school.

First, ask your priest if he is Christian. Ask him if your church is Christian.

Second, you are addressing different FORMATS, not BELIEFS or TENETS,  above where you're talking about readings, homily, etc.

Third, the prior posters, including myself, have been to services at many different Christian denominations and different religions as well.

Fourth, you've truly taken a parochial viewpoint from your Catholic education.

I have attended many worship services, and I agree that there are many differences. I am Catholic. I take GREAT offense at the idea that a Catholic Church is not Christian.

That makes them different denominations of Christianity, not religions.  You are wrong.

  • iI never said catholic wasnt christian. iI said they have several differences.
catholic churches have priests who cant marry which is crazy if you ask me, but thats not whayt is being discussed here.
christian churches do not have priests. and the pastors can marry and have families.

all denominations of everything are different in there own way.

iI didnt say anything offensive at all in this post. because as iI said catholic church is different than attending mass at a christian church.

    Oh honey.

To even distinguish between Catholics and Christians implies that Catholics aren't Christians, which is offensive.

Lutherans and Episcopalians have priests, too.  And, yes, those denominations allow their priests to marry.  By the way, there are some married Catholic priests.

Please, please, I beg of you - learn how to type!

How can you expect intelligent answers from someone who doesn't know what capital letters and punctuation are?  I am so frustrated by Jessica2426.  She is clueless about her own religion.  Maybe is it just her lack of English language skills that makes it impossible for her to understand that "Catholic and Protestant" is not the same as "Catholic and Christian."  Yes, Jessica, you have offended lots of people.

All Catholic and Protestant denomination I have been to use the same basic procedure for Holy Communion.  It is the belief about the nature of the host that is different, not the ceremony. We have the same readings from the Bible, homily (sermon) followed by preparation for Holy Communion.  When I receive the bread at a Methodist communion, the officiant says "The body of Christ, broken for you."
Stop giving advice about a subject you obviously know nothing about!

  • What a cluster.

@Jessica2426 - I do not mean this in a patronizing or rude way, but you really should schedule some time with your priest to talk about the origins of Christianity and the "not all Christians are Catholics" thing. If you identify as such, it's really important to understand this at the most basic level.

  • Just as a reminder, this post was originally about alternatives to alcohol at a reception.

Religious topics can easily offend others who may not be involved in the conversation, so perhaps we should either move on or remember the OP!

    Thanks!

  • Why does she keep saying "il" instead of "I"?
  • Zitiqueen maybe your new. My tablet at home does that for some unkown reason. I have tried to insuccessfully change it. It is hard to type on the little bitty keyboard on my phone. (Fat fingers) And christian churches are real. I, as stated before, have been to a catholic church my entire life. A few weeks ago I came to the christian church affiliated with my daughters daycare. Way different! Pretty much the same beliefs and stuff but the church is different, as I stated before. I NEVER said catholics werent christians. I also didnt make the comment about christians not all being catholic. However, some of the people who come to this church are not catholic. Some used to be catholic. All I ever said was the church was different!
  • @Jessica2426, seriously, the word you're looking for is Protestant, which refers to all Christian churches that are not Catholic.

@zitiqueen, there must be some kind of glitch for you to have an Ancient Membership badge on your first day. I'll see if KP can fix that for ya. ;)

Well, many anyway.  There's still Eastern Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, etc.
