Oh my god! That's unbelievably awful.

I understand how you feel. A young girl drowned at a popular swimming place while I was at a kid I babysat's birthday party. It all happened so quickly and there was nothing anyone could have done, they had to bring in divers to find her body. In your situation it sounds like you did everything you could have. *hugs* It really shakes you how quickly things can go wrong. It's horrible and hard to process. I agree with @lyndausvi talking with someone (friends, family, a professional) is so helpful.

wow, that must be horrifying. I am so sorry you had to go through this! I know what it's like to witness death, though only in the hospital setting, not in a place where you would least expect it, like how you experienced it. I am glad you and your H are getting counseling, sending all the virtual hugs your way!!

Wow I am so sorry.

A few years ago, I went on a beach day trip with some friends and they brought a woman I had never met before. She was amazing- she was 40 years old with teenage children but she just had the spirit and vibrance of a 20 year old. I seriously had so much fun with her that day. A week later, she was killed in a drunk driving accident. Even though I hardly knew her, it was the weirdest, saddest feeling. For weeks I thought of her and how amazing she was and how sad it was for her children. These things do take time to process, whether you know the person or not.

That is scary. I hope you are okay --- it must be difficult to deal with witnessing something so frightening.

I'm so sorry. I hope what I say will be a little comforting, and not downplaying the situation at all- she died happier than most and suffered less than most. Definitely a horrific situation and one you can't really forget

It's so tragic to see an innocent young life snatched away so suddenly.  I'm sorry you had to experience that, Slothie, and my heart goes out to that poor young girl.  There was nothing that could be done.  I hoped she did not suffer.
