We're not having a honeymoon. Or, if we do, it will be 7+ months later with FSS joining us. AKA, a vacation with a kid, not a romantic honeymoon.
We decided that it was better to put the money towards the wedding (and fixing our bathroom) than a vacation. Plus, both FI and FSS are in school. It would be hard for FI to miss both class and work and we don't have anyone who could watch FSS easily.
It's not such a bad thing. Plus, my sister was so tired after her wedding that she wished she could have had a few days off to recuperate before leaving on vacation.
We are delaying our honeymoon - I'm a teacher and feel like I can't justify taking off the week after spring break, so we're leaving the week after school lets out. But we are doing a mini moon as well. I know of one person IRL who left right after their wedding and I helped her pack for it... nooooo thank you.... she was swamped with final touches for the wedding AND packing for a very long cruise to Turkey and Greece. Granted, to each his own.
We bought a house 2 weeks before our wedding, and moved into the house 1 week after the wedding. We didn't have the time or the money for a honeymoon.
Our plan is to go to the Caribbean sometime in January or February when it's fricken cold here in New England.
We did go the Cape for a few days in August (which is when we both normally take vacation). There is no rule when you can go on a vacation to celebrate your marriage. Hell you can do it every year if you want to.
We delayed our honeymoon too. We own small business and at the time were our only "employees" so could not afford to close for two weeks to get married and go straight on to the honeymoon. So we closed a few days prior to the wedding and took two days after before opening back up. Our customers were of course very supportive so there were no worries there...just had to get back to keep things moving! After the wedding we stayed two days in the wedding town--this allowed us to visit with family and friends who traveled for the wedding itself. We then took a 2 day "mini moon" about 3 hours from our hometown to just get away and chill on our own before heading back to real life.
We took our honeymoon 3 months later (exactly). By that time we had a reliable employee so our business was able to stay open while we were gone. Plus, it was something to still look forward to after the wedding. We were treated like any other "honeymoon" couple and had a great time!
We're thinking we will wait too. Wedding is on Saturday, and FI always has off until Wednesday, so that should be enough time for a little mini vacation.
Plus my roomie should be moving out that week so having the house to ourselves for a few days will be all the vacation necessary! lol
LOTS of my friends had a "delayed" honeymoon, due to jobs/money/life. I had pretty much planned on that being the case for me and slothieguy; we just got super lucky and shit fell into place a few months before the wedding.
No side eyeing to be had if you can't honeymoon right away
This is why I love TK. Two days ago I was bummed that we aren't leaving our ceremony and going out of town, and now I'm thankful for it. I don't want to be trying to pack and get travel stuff in order while my house is already a train wreck from last minute wedding stuff!
On the flip side, I had a friend leave at 8am for her honeymoon the day after her wedding and she said she was so exhausted that they didn't do anything for 2-3 days, so they really only enjoyed the second half of their week off.
We are going on our mini-honeymoon over Thanksgiving, a little over a week after the wedding. It was an easy decision as that way neither of us have to take a ton of personal time. Plus, since the wedding is near thanksgiving a lot of our family is not gathering for the usual "big thanksgivings" this year, since everyone will be together beforehand.
I have a friend who was planning to do a big tropical honeymoon trip the spring/summer after she got married. Well, by that time she was pregnant and the trip didn't happen that year (or the following year due to nursing), followed by another pregnancy/nursing cycle. I think they finally got to take the trip around their 4th/5th anniversary.
We got married in July, but aren't planning our honeymoon trip until either next spring or fall. All the places we want to go are miserably hot during the summer, so we definitely want to avoid that. Plus this way we can save up for something nicer than we would have been able to directly post-wedding. We ended up taking a three-day mini-moon to just chill the heck out after the wedding, and I'm so glad we didn't try traveling then. We were both so exhausted that going somewhere truly nice would have been wasted on us. We just wanted some serious down- and alone- time right after the wedding.
