Okay, so I got married 3 months ago. I am taking DH's last name. We got our marriage certificate about 2 weeks after the wedding. About a week later I changed my name on Social Security & Drivers license. After my new ID's came, I change it at my banks, since it's critical to have ID match account name. Since then, I haven't done much of anything with name change. I kind of lost motivation. I made of list of everywhere I need to change it. I was over 2 pages long, and included even things like Amazon & Netflix accounts and frequent flier miles, so it was pretty inclusive. And I think doing that detailed of a list may have scared me off a bit, since it is a lot of places. I know not everywhere is critical to change right away and some I can just do as I go along (like changing it at vet office when I take dogs for their next checkup). But, I know I should get on some of them, like medical insurance & doctor offices. Most of them at this point can be done through mail or e-mail, like passport and most utilities, but a few still need to be in person, which means taking time off work. And some don't have any info on process to change it, so I need to call them to figure it out, which may also require taking time off work to do. I have a basic letter already written up (actually two, one is more generic and one is specifically for doctors/medical) that I can mail/e-mail out with marriage certificate. So, really I just need to figure out where to send to and just do it. But, I'm starting to feel bad that I haven't done anything with it in 2 months. I don't want DH to think I'm stalling or hesitating on the decision to take his name. And it's also getting a bit annoying to use different names depending on what I'm doing, since some stuff has changed and some I'm still using maiden name.
Anyway, for those that have been through this process, did you change everything right away? Or just change things as you went along? Any advice to make the process seem less overwhelming?
