Play It Up...how?

My fiancé and I are getting married at City Hall on February 17, 2015. We had to suddenly move our wedding date due to him joining the Navy and them moving his boot camp ship out date a lot quicker than originally discussed. I found the dress, shoes and using my great grandmother's sapphire earrings...pretty much have the look down except for the makeup.

The dress is an ivory tea length dress. I bought and dyed my heels royal blue (always wanted to have some wild shoes on my wedding day). We are going for a vintage look and most makeup artists say to either play up the eyes OR the lips. I don't want to look like a clown with crazy shoes and an overdone makeup. Any suggestions? What is your experience with this?

Simple is alwasy a good look. Natural, but with some black eye liner and a red lip is also very vintage looking. You'd want to avoid the smokey eye and the bright lip color. I think that's what the makeup artists were trying to tell you. This is one of my favorite looks: clicky

Make up is really personal so definitely do what makes you feel most beautiful. Do you normally wear red lipstick? Dress vintage? Do you normally wear a lot of make up or go for a natural look? I guess I'm a fan of looking like yourself on your wedding day and not like you're trying to be something you aren't normally.

I would just emphasize and play up a bit what you normally do. So for example, my every day is a compact, brown/pinks eye shadow, black mascara and chapstick. A very basic, natural look. For my wedding, this was one of my inspiration photos - basically more emphasized eyes than my normal look.

What is your favourite feature?  Mine are my eyes so I play mine up.  Example:

Or, if you want to go with a more vintage vibe, a red lip and more natural face would go well.  Example:

This is kind of a minor point, but how does your FI feel about red lipstick? I know this is silly, but I put on red lipstick a couple days ago to try out my Halloween makeup cuz I love to play with makeup and I normally NEVER wear red lips. My FI liked the look, but when I tried to kiss him he pushed my face away and ran away (in a playful way, not in a mean way! He's a total goof) :) He made a big deal about getting red lipstick on his face, so it became apparent that he isn't too big of a fan.

If I really wanted to wear red lipstick for my wedding, I probably wouldn't let him totally dictate that, but I would take it into consideration. For me personally, I plan to play up my eyes and maybe just wear chapstick since that's what I normally do and that's what makes me feel most beautiful.

Side note, I love the photos other PPs posted with the ladies who have red lipstick and then just simple black eyeliner and a more natural face. Gorgeous!

I loved those pics too!  I'm considering whether this is the look I want for some upcoming photos were having taken.  Never worn red lipstick though as I've always been self conscious about my mouth for some reason.  I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to have a whole set of nice photos that I don't really look like myself in, but it's so glam, and would go perfectly with my dress.  Maybe I should just pop in to a store during the week and buy some red lippie and wear it around the house first...
