Size 4.5 cushion ct .92 carats in a cushion halo and slightly split shank. I won't lie, I'd love a bigger diamond but I love my setting more and a larger diamond won't look right in it.
Mine is 1.8 carat center stone, 2.2 carat with the halo and side stones included. I wear rings sizes 5.25-6, my e-ring is a 6 because I wanted it on the looser side.
ETA: My pictures are always so tiny. Computers are hard.
I just skimmed so I may have missed someone else making this point:
Carats are weight units. Different gems have different qualities and therefore one carat of one is not the same size as one carat of another. How the gem is cut will also have an impact on how "big" it looks.
You may want to look at actual dimensions to get a better idea of what size stone will best suit your taste and finger size.
OH! I was going to respond to this... and then I forgot.
As previously mentioned, my ring is a .92 carat marquise diamond, on a thin (I think 1.8mm? 1.9mm?) pave platinum band. My ring size is 6.
ps- ditto @desertsun . My .92 marquise diamond looks a little larger (I believe the term is "Faces up larger") than a .92 round diamond would, simply because of the shape it was cut. Also... in my opinion, the thin band makes it look bigger. Things to consider.
I have a 4.5 ring size (maybe even a 4 if it weren't for my knuckle because it's wayyy too loose some days) and my diamond is 1.something carat. Before I ever even tried on a ring I thought a 2 carat stone would be PERFECT, it was much too big for my tiny finger.

I had the same problem, my whole life, all of my rings were loose because my knuckles are large, when I got engaged I took the ring to my jeweler to get sized and he recommended putting a Superfit. My ring opens and closes now and it fits perfectly! I would definitely thing about it
I wear a size 5 and have a .78 marquise cut solitaire on it. It is not too big, not too small. Someone above mentioned that the marquise cut is larger to the equivalent caret of a round or princess cut. A We looked at a heart cut that was similar caret weight, and it was way smaller. I think a similar size as far as diameter goes would be 1.5 carets or so. The marquise fit the band perfectly.
As far as what is too big or too small for a band, any reputable jeweler should be able to recommend a stone for a band, and vise versa. Focus on what it looks like, not the caret weight.

I have the same issue too. I have a thin band, though, so I can usually wiggle it on if my fingers are particularly swollen. A thick band would so not work for me.
I have size 4 fingers and my engagement ring is a 1.74 carat round solitaire. I absolutely love it. I can't wait to wear it with my wedding band, which has diamonds that go halfway around and is 0.73 carats.
Re: Carat size for sz 5 ring finger
Yay ring porn!

PICTURES PLEASE! I love oval diamonds! And pears and marquises... well, all diamonds and pretty stones. but those shapes in particular.
I will for sure when I get my phone up and going again! (Currently having a messy transition with my upgrade. ugh.)
