Goodbye

Re: Goodbye

  • Wow. I'd be pissed. You have done the right thing all along. I think you're doing the right thing to contact the police and the news and to keep the cat napper's info private besides telling the owner and the police. Halfway through your post I thought of a local news station (local to me) that I KNOW would cover this and get it sorted out. I feel so sad for your neighbor. I hope they are reunited soon.
  • That hurts my heart.  I feel so sad for your neighbor.  Losing a pet is terrible.  You have tried to do everything right.  People suck.

  • /Hugs this is so sad to hear. I hope the kitty is safe and sound and that the news crew busts this organization open.

  • I mean, is there anything else I can do on my end? I'm trying to make this catnapping go viral, but that's not exactly easy.
I don't think so. I would follow up with the police and the news stations at least once a day, though.
  • Can you show up in person at the rescue shelter and demand to speak to the owner?
  • You can post a review as your fb status and ask everyone to share?

I think you're doing all you can. Are you in a major market?

  • Just a little something to tug at your heartstrings.
    Yeah. It worked.
  • Some of these so called "rescue" organizations are actually quite terrible.  They feel that since the original owners/parents of the animal lost them, they can't possibly be good guardians.  They make this choice; there is no room for black & white.  There was a similar story about a family that lost a dog and the foster/shelter people would not give it back.  It ended up on the local news and this was SoCal.

  • Ohhh no.....my heart is beating so fast right now...poor kitten. What is going on?

  • Better Business Bureau?

I would be writing google and yelp reviews. Then emailing the company and telling them you'll take it down if they do the right thing.

Question, was the cat declawed? I ask because a lot of rescue agencies are SUPER anti-declawing. Like, if you say you are even considering declawing a cat on your application, they will toss it in the trash. I'm just wondering if they saw that the cat was declawed and think the owners are not fit to have animals (even though the owners may well have rescued a declawed cat).

  • :-( How awful!

So far your have really done all the right things. Contacting a shelter, responding once you saw the sign at your front door. And now you're doing everything you can to get the cat back. Good call on contacting Pet Finder. As a nationally recognized organization - the last thing they want is to be associated with a group who is not doing the right thing.
  • That is terrible! Don't feel bad. You did everything right.

If I were you, I would not let this go. As other PPs said, post this EVERYWHERE . Make it known. I've done this in the past. I even started a blog and advertised it in 18 different cities and all over facebook to expose a college apartment complex that was hard-core scamming students and getting away with it, and deleting all bad reviews, threatening to sue anyone who posted a bad review, etc. Can't delete my blog, bitches.

  • Oh my god this is terrible. I would put up a post on FB and try to get the word to spread about that "rescue" group. So you and the owner are doing everything you can. Hopefully once the police get involved they can track this person down. I really hope the kitty is reunited with his owner.

  • People are so damn shitty. Good luck to you--hopefully the police can get it all sorted out for the owner, and the news can get it all sorted out vis-a-vis shutting that so-called "rescue" organization down. Or at the very least staging an inquiry as to why it is operating without complete transparency.

This baby knows exactly how I feel
  • @pinkrevenge I think you're in the clear with posting the name of the 'shelter'

  • I'm glad you're not just dropping it.  Keep making a huge fuss over it, at some point the right person is going to hear your story.  I'm personally hopeful about the local news.  "Foster" home stealing someone's cat?  That could be a really good story.  Pulls at the heartstrings and causes outrage.  Anyone who has lost a pet will see it and be livid- because you have to wonder, if it's happening to your neighbor, how often does it happen to other people too?  How many lost pets are just in foster homes that won't contact the owner?  I'm sure news coverage will help your situation a lot.  Get enough people pissed at this company and they're going to HAVE to fix the situation.

  • It kind of enrages me to think of someone stealing someone else's pet. A girl I knew from high school was renting a house a few years ago and invited me over to hang out with her and her roommates. Well, I get there and they have a new dog. They said they "found it" walking down the road with no collar so it was a "stray."

I was so pissed off. I proceed to tell them that I'd worked in an animal shelter for YEARS and this dude was by no means a stray.
    1. He was very clean
    2. He was well-fed
    3. He was very social
    4. He was pure bred (Jack Russell)
    5. He was a small dog. Not too many small dogs make it in the wild. Sorry.

After I told them all these reasons and let them know they had STOLEN someone's pet dog, I offered to help them look for the owner. They insisted that the dog was a stray and that they were keeping him. I secretly looked at lost pet boards, the shelter I used to work at, etc and tried to find a person looking for that missing dog but never did. I never hung out with that girl again.
