    I work two jobs and am not on food stamps. I have no problem with hard working people who need the help of the assistance. However, it is often times abused. Governmental assistance should be used to help people get back onto their feet, not as a lifestyle. I am sorry that I have offended some people.
    You should be more sorry for spewing ignorant garbage out of your mouth for everyone else to have the misfortune to read. Learn something.
    Your attitude is really repulsive. You have NO idea what that person buying food with food stamps is feeling. That person that bought crab legs? Maybe that was the first time they splurged on something like that in years. The fact is - YOU DON'T KNOW anything about what could be going on in this person's like.

    @furturemrsk515 you should read this
    Yeah, I totally agree with this. I think that there is so much stigma and stereotype surrounding programs that, unfortunately and unfairly, people feel the need to criticize / judge every action of the people that use those programs.

    These are one of the cases where so many people have a holier-than-thou attitude. "People that buy a steak (or [enter here anything considered a luxury item]) on the government's dime are theives. I would NEVER do that EVER."

    Well, I think that these people should try a put yourselves in their shoes exercise. Who is anyone to judge someone else who, after working X hours in a job in which they can barely make ends meet (in many cases taking on work that many people don't even want in the first place), goes to the store and buys a steak to maybe feel accomplished or to obviously feed their family or even just to feel a bit of pleasure.

    Noone knows what they might need/want if one day finding themselves in that situation. But, what I do know that if my small contribution makes someone's days just that much easier. I am happy they get to enjoy a steak.

  • When  my mother was on food stamps, she bought frivolous things, Like birthday cake mix. Someone chewed her out for buying a cake mix that she would have to make, at the checkout, with her foodstamps.  For years she couldn't afford to get us presents, and here was someone telling her we couldn't have the tiniest luxury, either.  Sometimes being in poverty is so devastating, if you could have one thing that was a reminder of your old life, it will see you through.
       My mom would get food from Catholic charities just to supplement us so we could have a thanksgiving dinner. There would be powdered milk in our cereal for a month just to have that one meal. Food is a very small luxury. If someone is poor and splurges on items with food stamps, they will have to make up for that cost and skimp the rest of the month, and have cheaper meals. i honestly, don't see the harm in that. If there weren't social programs like foodstamps, I think we would see a spike in suicides. It's not just the food that sustains us, it is the hope, that one day, times won't always be so hard.
