What should the MC wear?

One of our good friends who is not in the wedding party is going to the MC at our wedding.  Should he wear a suit to match the groom and groomsmen?  And should he wear a boutonniere as well?

Re: What should the MC wear?

  • What does he want to wear?

  • Good question!  I haven't asked him yet, and It doesn't matter so much to me what he wears.  I was just wondering if it is weird if he were to match the groomsmen (should he want to), if I should even bring it up, or if I should not ask him at all.  I understand that he is perfectly capable of dressing himself and I have no intention of dictating what he wears.

As for the boutonniere, is it normal for an MC to wear a boutonniere?  I believe he would wear one if we had one made for him.

  • If he's not a groomsman, and as such, not going to be involved in pictures, it wouldn't matter what he's wearing - if he doesn't ask, I wouldn't bring it up.

I've been MC a couple of times, and wasn't given a corsage either time, as far as I can remember.  If we had an MC, though, they would have gotten one.  We gave corsages/boutonnieres to everyone involved in our ceremony (ushers, musicians, pastors, etc).

I think it would be a nice gesture to get him a boutonniere.
