Comfortable wedding shoes

FMIL just sent me a check for shoe money (I have a pretty great FMIL) so I've got shoes on the mind; the problem is I have very sensitive feet. I mostly wear sneakers and boots if it can be helped and I don't think I've ever tolerated a pair of three inch heels. For the reception I'm probably going to switch to glittery TOMS, but for the ceremony, I'd really love to wear some beautiful heels. For this to happen, they're going to need to be comfortable. Are there any brands known for making dressy heels on the more pain-free side?

Re: Comfortable wedding shoes

  • I don't mean this to sound snarky, but why bother? Heels aren't comfortable, even for people who like them, so I wouldn't bother spending money on shoes you'll never wear again and won't like during the ceremony. Rock your glitter Toms! I couldn't tell you what the shoes of the brides of the last three weddings I've been to are.

If you don't like or can't tolerate heels why not just look for a beautiful pair of flats?  Or if you absolutely want some height look into wedges.  If your dress is long then no one will see your shoes anyway so wear what is comfortable for your feet since you will be on them for a long time that day.

Also remember that if you wear heels for your ceremony that your dress will need to be altered to the heel height so once you slip on your TOMS your dress could be dragging a good 3 inches or so on the ground.

  • I actually don't find heels to be uncomfortable at all, but I wear them pretty often.

For some fancy flats, check out Tieks.   They are super comfortable and really cute.
  • I love all the Badgley Mischka heels (like this: http://www.amazon.com/Badgley-Mischka-Goodie-Platform-Glacier/dp/B00HA8V32O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415038626&sr=8-1&keywords=badgley+mischka+goodie)

But there is also a part of me that thinks some blue glitter Toms would be the smarter choice: http://www.toms.com/toms-for-prom/blue-glitter-womens-classics

If you are really not comfortable in heels, consider flats, a low heel, or maybe a wedge.

  • I just really love the look of heels. I own a few pairs but they're not really party shoes, more work shoes which is why they're designed comfortably, there's support and cushioning everywhere. Wedges, I don't find wedges particularly attractive. Something about that much material underfoot just seems off to me, like hooves. I completely support the low heel idea, maybe an inch or two of the ground, but I still don't know what brands to look for

  • myhabit.com has Badgley Mischka shoes on sale right now.  I think some of them are lower.  You can sign into that site with your amazon login.
  • Cole Haan, Bandolino, Ivanka Trump, Vanelli, Sam Edelman, Stuart Weitzman, Calvin Klein make [relatively] comfortable heels.  I'm tall so I rarely wear heels and when I do they're < 1".  I would recommend either dressy ballerinas (pointed toe, patent leather or other shine), the glittery TOMS or a dressy pump.  I just ordered a pair of Nina's with a tiny heel from Zappos that look good and relatively comfortable.

If I were you I'd search on zappos.com by heel height and color.  Read all reviews of the shoes that interest you.  You may want to buy 2 pairs, find out which fits better and then send back the other pair.  Shipping is free, return shipping too.  If you don't find something good right away, check back every week or s;, the inventory is constantly changing.

Once you decide on the shoe, I would recommend wearing it indoors for a few hours here and there to make sure it feels comfortable and also to break it in a bit.

    Good luck!
  • I know the most two important thing you consider is the low heels and comfort.Unfortunately,I found the comfort of the shoes seems to have nothing to do with the brand, take the red bottom shoes as an example, some of my friends buy them as their wedding shoes, and most of them said they are really uncomfortable while the others think they are comfortable during the wedding. So,I suggest you pay more attention to the design of shoes not its brand. Some styles are specially designed for some function including comfort.
  • These are what older ladies with foot problems wear when they dress up:  http://www.zappos.com/soft-style-angel-ii-white-smooth

    Very comfortable.

  • Pretty inexpensive, but I settled on these. I was going for comfort, and just don't care. I like the look of heels too (and dislike wedges as wedding shoes), but it just wasn't worth it to me.
  • Ooooo! Those are beautiful!
  • If you'd really like to try heels, I'd suggest Soft Style by Hush Puppies if you can find a pair you like. I wore them for my ceremony and 2/3 of my reception before switching to some flip-flops and they were very comfortable.

  • Kate Spade makes some of THE most comfortable heels in the world.  My work heels are Kate Spade, and they're fantastic.  They can be expensive, but they're often on sale on Gilt!
