When you take off your rings,...

Re: When you take off your rings,...

  • At night, it goes in the box it came in on my nightstand. I put it there before I shower or clean too. If I take it off in the kitchen, I just grab an empty little mise-en-place type bowl and put it in there until I'm done with the messy stuff.

  • If its not on my finger its in the box it came in. I do the first thing off at night, last thing on in the morning routine so that I'm pretty much never wearing it in the bathroom during my showering and getting ready as I am terrified of the drains. I once lost a ring of my mothers that way. She passed it down to me but it was a teensy bit big so I would take it off when I showered and put it on the bathroom counter. Either got swept into the garbage or down the drain but it was never seen again.

If I forget to take the ring box with me travelling then the ring does not come off.

  • I rarely take it off, only when I rub lotions on and when I am cleaning with stuff like bleach.  But when I do take it off, I just put it on the counter.
    image
  • Again, it goes on the Scottie dog's butt, which sits on my bathroom counter.
  • I have an Eiffel tower from bed bath and beyond that I put my rings on if I need to take them off.

  • If I'm handling raw meat, I just leave it on the island.  I goes right back on anyway.  Otherwise it's on top of my jewellery box in the bathroom.  Too much effort to open it.  ;)

As for the bed, there is only my 3/4 and DH's 1/4.  He will never sleep on my side.  It was condition of moving in and is still a condition of a happy marriage.  It was my side before he came along and that wasn't changing.

  • After 38 years, it feels weird if my rings are not on my finger.  I take them off for making pies, but put them back on as soon as I am finished.  Yes, I sleep with them on.

  • I put my on top of my dresser. I guess I should get a bowl or ring holder of some sort but haven't gotten around to it.
  • I put mine in its box but I really really want one of these:

  • I put them in my crystal ring holder on my dresser.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I take my ring of when I go to sleep, shower, and when I'm cleaning/ cooking with raw meat. I make sure to know exactly where it is when I take it off. I have these bunnies from urban outfitters for when I do stuff in the kitchen:  image

And I use these bunnies from Mod Cloth on my dresser for when I take a shower:  http://www.modcloth.com/shop/store-organize/hare-and-now-ring-holder

They look basically the same, but the mod cloth bunnies are smaller with minute design differences. I went through a fit of OCD and ordered both when I thought I would use them as a cake topper. I wanted to compare them to see which I would like better. My dad used his veto to say no to the bunnies for the cake ("Bunnies have connotations! I don't want people to think about that!") so I just kept them both and use them for their actual ring holding purpose.

When I go to sleep, I put my ring in the box it came in that stays on my nightstand. FI has started calling it the "ring house" which I think is cute.
  • I have designated spots to put my rings when I take them off in the kitchen and the bathroom at home. I don't have any holders, just a spot where they will be safe from the kitty and the drains. I mentioned on the other thread that I can't wear rings while doing some of my lab work. If I'm working under a no hand and wrist jewelry operating procedure I put my rings on a chain around my neck. If I'm working under the no street clothes/shoes/jewelry allowed operating procedure I put all my jewelry in an Altoids container and either have the container in a locked desk drawer in a locked office or locked in my locker behind a restricted access/biometric scan door

I have one just like this, except it's a bobblehead cat (thanks, Amazon!).  I love it, it goes there when I work out, shower, do dishes... anytime I don't want something to happen to the ring.

  • I really only take them off when I shower so I just leave them on top of my phone. If I take them off to work on a project- which I never think to do so they get filthy all the time - I'll put them on top of DH's alarm clock, right inside the door to our bedroom.

I'm don't think about things like jewelry very often so I treat it all badly. I would have stopped wearing my e-ring the day we got married if DH cared less. This is (part of) why I was completely opposed to spending a lot of money on a ring. It's also why I have a very simple wedding band.

Both from Pier One. I don't take it off when I wash my hands outside of my house, or really any other time.

    Niiiiiiice! :) No problem!

Elephants are my absolute favorite. The goal is to have them everywhere eventually.
  • I usually take mine off in the shower and just put them on the counter, and I always take them off when I put on lotion/makeup & handle raw meat. I didn't use to take my e-ring off ever, but it got so damn nasty that it was take it off or constantly clean it.

I currently sleep with the rings on, but I'm noticing my fingers getting ever so squishy as the Bean grows so it wouldn't surprise me if I end up with fat fingers by the time this pregnancy is full force and then I may have to take them off (tear :( ).

@raissyrais you might love this book http://www.amazon.com/Faberge-Revealed-Virginia-Museum-Fine/dp/0847837386/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415754575&sr=8-1&keywords=faberge+book

I saw the exhibition when it came through locally and FI had to drag me out of there.

  • Damn, y'all are fancy.  I really never take mine off.  If my hands are getting dirty, I'll usually put on gloves before I'll take off the ring. I am notorious for losing/breaking (expensive) things, and no amount of insurance can replace the sentimental value of the ring.

  • @lolo883 THANK YOU!

I have been on the hunt for a ring holder that I loved for a whole year. There is an anthropologie down the road from me, and I'd never been there or thought to look there for one. I ran in after work tonight...I'm in love with it. Even H really liked it! He always worries about leaving rings on the counter so this solves that :)

Sending you lots of Canadian love.

  • I only take mine off to shower (it goes in its box on the bathroom counter) or if I'm messy baking (goes on the kitchen window sill).

  • I am wondering how many of you ladies who keep your rings on top of dressers or nightstands have young children?  My mother raged at me for years, insisting I swallowed her rings as a toddler.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy....they were on exhibition in Montreal during the few months before I left but I never had the chance to go...you're so lucky! But I'm sure other opportunities will come up. Thanks for the link, that book would look nice in my history of Europe collection shelf :)

  • This is my ring holder I made :)
  • My ring dish is on my dresser and every time my future step daughter is in our apartment, she always stands there and holds it and tries it on (she's 5.)  But she knows she can't move it or take it out of that spot.
