what's your favorite (WR)

The other day I received a very beautiful wedding invitation. All the pieces were engraved or embossed (I'm not sophisticated enough to know more detail than that). There was this beautiful, intricate gold paper lace-type thing surrounding the main invitation that I could actually remove and I'm thinking of what kind of art project I could make out of it.  Really, it's the nicest invitation I personally have ever received.

It got me thinking-- what are your favorite elements of all the weddings you've been to?

The best food and cake were at my sister's wedding at a restaurant. It's been several years so I can't remember exactly what I ate (it was artful), but the poppy seed cake was to die for.

My favorite decor was a recent wedding; the tables alternated between simple, large balls of white carnations mounted on silver vases, and elaborate branches. The butter slabs were shaped into little wedding cakes.

My favorite venue was a country club in Colorado; it was on a mountainside and the views were just fabulous. For little Midwestern me it was heaven.

My favorite ceremony (I go to a lot of Church weddings) was in a chapel. This couple did a "unity sandwich" where the couple put peanut butter and jelly on respective pieces of bread, smushed them together and took a bite at the same time.

You?

What? Is this a thing? I've never heard of something like that.

My favorite music would be my cousin's. She had a big band and they were really awesome.

Favorite food was mine. It was just awesome.

Favorite decorations was at a friend's wedding. It was just really simple and elegant. Her colors were apple red and brown and everything as just really warm feeling (twigs, deep reds, etc).

Food - our wedding! We STILL have people talk about the food at our wedding. Having good food was very important to us so we worked with one of the top caterers in the city and made a custom menu. We definitely paid for it, but it was worth every penny.

Decor - I went to an Indian wedding this summer and the decor was f-ing fabulous. They spared no expense. Really it was the flowers that stole the show. They must have needed a semi truck to deliver the amount of flowers they had. And they had gold, hand stitched, beaded overlays, furniture - like couches and stuff.... yea.

Cake - the best cake was Banana's Foster cake. They had a bunch of different flavors, but I could have made a meal out of that flavor!

Ceremony Venue - many of my cousins are Italian Catholic and there is a fabulous Catholic church built in 1875 where they're all members. They've all gotten married there, had their christenings, funerals, etc. there. It is absolutely stunning.

Reception Venue - One of my girlfriends got married at a private manor that had a quaint stone chapel on the grounds. Everything about the place was old world and very cool.

  • Food - My college roommate had the best dinner food. I loved our food the best of all because brunch is my favorite, but her dinner food was very, very good.

Location - My MOH had the best location, we went to Siesta Key for hers and the reception on the beach was amazing.

Decor - My step brother had the most beautifully decorated wedding I've ever seen in person. We were at a boat club in Cleveland, right on the water and the decor was so pretty.

Music - Mine, we had a Sinatra singer with a four piece band and he was amazing!
  • Ceremony space (besides ours, of course): my cousin got married in front of the Chihuly glass sculpture at the Joslyn Art Museum in Nebraska right at sunset. It was the most gorgeous ceremony backdrop I've ever seen:

  • Decor would have to go to my friend Rachel. She did a peacock color thing. When we walked into the dining room, I was blown away by how gorgeous it was. She had these large candelabras - very dramatic.

And the rest, I have to go with mine! The venue was freaking amazing. The food was delicious. The music - once the DJ had my song list - was amazing and everyone was on the dance floor. I liked our ceremony the best, because we were married by H's friend. He surprised us with the ceremony script and it was perfect. Just the right amount of sweet, meaningful and funny.
  • These are fun to read :)

@sarawifenow, yeah... I don't think it's "a thing" but it totally fit the humor of the couple, so it's very memorable for me.

Funny thing is, I've seen so many pictures of acquaintances' weddings that I really had to think about what I've personally experienced versus what I've just seen.  Like, my favorite cake topper is the high-fiving couple. I saw Lolo had it, but a college buddy of mine had it too. So cute.

If I could vote for my own wedding for a lot of favorite things I would ;-)

  • My wedding was my favorite ceremony and my favorite food, thus far, but before my wedding.   I had to say my brother-in-laws wedding had amazing food as well as H's friend's wedding.  I had strip steak and it melted in your mouth like filet mignon, but had the taste of strip steak. My favorite food at my wedding were the raspberry brie puff pastries.  I plan on trying to make these appetizers, someday.

I loved my centerpieces, but my friend's centerpieces were quite cute without being overly themey.  They had white-ish green hydrangeas and green apples in tall cylindrical vases. My friends are teachers.
My wedding was like an upscale lodge with exposed wooden beams.  It was gorgeous.  But my brother-in-laws venue was breathtaking and very elegant.  It was like the ballroom in the movie Anastasia.. I know that's a cartoon, but ti was elegant, fancy, and not tacky.
  • Decor and food are for sure my BFF from college. Her wedding was at the House of Blues in October, so it was all shades of deep purple / gold / orange, with potted mums all over the place. Absolutely incredible. And she had a fucking MASHED POTATO BAR. And a make-your-own-pasta station. And a bunch of other really incredible food.

I don't usually care about or even remember favors, but I wedding to a wedding last summer as a groomsman's plus one, The groom brews his own beer, so the favors were two different (and both awesome) flavors of his homebrewed beer. Also they had a gorgeous venue!

Both of these also had awesome music, which I always remember.

I'm incredibly excited for a girlfriend's wedding in the spring, too. She's DIYing a ton of things, and I've been privy to pictures of what she's got so far. Her colors and decor are going to look baller as hell.
  • I have been to a lot of wedding and absolutely nothing stands out from any of them.  So I guess that doesn't say a lot for the weddings I have attended, huh?  Or maybe that says a lot about me and my lack of being observant.

  • OK, OK, I'll pick some besides my own.

Some friends of mine who got married 3 years ago had probably my second favorite overall wedding. Venue was gorgeous (below), and ceremony + reception in the same location which I love. Apple spice cake was INCREDIBLE (we tasted their for our cake, but liked the frosting better at the place we chose). Personal touches for centerpieces (they're bookworms with season Tigers tickets, so they had a stack of old books topped with a small vase of blue and orange flowers). Everything was on point.

My friend's wedding in Brazil had my second favorite music - American music cover band, that kept messing up the words because English wasn't their first language, but highly entertaining and kept everyone dancing. Venue loses points for not saving seats for the wedding party during cocktail hour. :( She had THE best ceremony venue. No competing with this.

    image

My older sister had the best dinner food (besides mine). People were actually asking the venue for the chicken recipe. I cried through their whole ceremony so it must have been good. ;-)

Worsts... college friends who had no other music besides a polka band, but the only people who polka'd were were parents (guess who paid). I've had dried out buffet chicken piccata at more crappy weddings than I care to remember. Cocktail-and-apps-only reception with no seats, not enough food, and B&G didn't show up for 2.5 hours. Rustic lodge ceremony that only had seating for about half of us. Toasts that went on for 30 minutes.

Hahaha I was going say the same thing about myself.

Other than my own, I would say the best dinner food was a friend from college who had a country club reception in the Chicago suburbs.  Buffet had tons of choices and everything was amazing.

Favorite reception venue and cocktail hour/apps and music was at the Intercontinental Hotel ballroom in downtown Chicago.  They had 2 sushi chefs doing made to order sushi rolls at cocktail hour plus like 10 other passed apps and passed champagne.  They had a 20 piece band/orchestra and it was just an amazing wedding all around.

  • Ours was my favourite everything :)

Runner up venue would be my second cousin - golf club in the Okanagan with floor-to-ceiling windows, and a secondary room with couches and cigars.

Food would be at my sister's - melt in your mouth roast beef and a PILE of veggies.

  • I haven't been to a lot of weddings but I really enjoyed my sister's beach ceremony and as she was marrying someone of the Hindu faith, they did a Hindu ceremony and it was beautiful. The food was also amazing. A good mix of Creole, Indian and French food. Yum.

I truly enjoyed the dancing at my brother's wedding last December. Had so much fun and a very nice headache the next morning! I was ever so slightly disappointed with the food...

But I think my favourite venue is probably mine. It's so lush and elegant! I'm in love :)

  • I haven't had my wedding yet so I guess I can't really use mine. XD

My favorite food-wise was from my best friend's aunt's wedding. She married into an Italian family and that side of the family flew over from Italy and they brought a lot of food with them. There was the food from the original caterer too so there was so much to choose from and eat! I was stuffed after that wedding!

The cake from that same wedding was also incredibly delicious.

My favorite invitations were from my friends' wedding. She designed them herself and had them printed on parchment paper and sealed with a wax seal. It was stunning!
