Things that make you smile

So something just happened to me that has me grinning from ear to ear! I figured it would be great to hear what all makes y'all smile or anything "smile" worthy that has happened recently.

I work for a small town in the recreation department doing programs for senior citizens and special events for the town. I love my seniors and they are just a great group of people. 

Today, I was going to a lunch that they were having after an indoor walking program. Well, I walk in and sure enough they were throwing me a surprise bridal shower! I was so shocked and happy and I started to tear up. I usually hate surprises and always figure them out, but I literally had no idea about it! So needless to say, I can't stop smiling.

So what has you smiling today or lately?

My soon to be step kids bought me flowers last week because I've been sick.  It was so cute!  I've been smiling about it since Friday night.

A trainer at the gym yesterday complimented my calves. I was like:

And then I went to the locker room to look at my calves, because I don't even look at them. And it made me smile.

I have been pretty down in the dumps lately for no real reason. Last night I made a birthday dinner for one of our best friends who just moved here. He said that the dinner really made his day because he was missing his family so much. Knowing that I made a difference to him really made me smile.

When my old folks I work with tell me they love me!!! Because I love them. I had an old man sing to me today and I was having a really bad day up till then

FI has been away for a week with work doing some out of town flights. He's a pilot and with the company he's with its very rare for him to be out of town. He flies oilfield workers out to the boonies so its usually a 6am-5pm kind of day so he's always home when i get home from work, so I was having a hard time with him being gone for a week and coming home to a dark empty house. It was reminding me a lot of our days of long distance.

I got home from work yesterday and I reached for the door knob and it flung open the moment I touched it. He had been waiting for 5 minutes by the front door just to open the door and be right there when I got home from work. It was such a little thing but it made me grin from ear to ear.

Every time I think about my upcoming trip to Mauritius (3 weeks you guys!!!!!) and wedding there, I have a massive happy grin from one ear to the other!

Got a thank you note from someone I hired 6 months ago.  She said she had been meaning to reach out, and just thanked me for guiding her through the interview process (I'm a recruiter), and that some of the little things I had done had really stuck with her and sold her on our company's culture, and she is so happy in her new role.

It felt really nice to be appreciated for all the hard work I do!

DH and I went to bed together last night.

He's working full time and taking a full course load (5 classes) so he's overloaded. He's up until all hours of the night working on homework so we never get to go to bed together. In fact, it's probably happened twice since the wedding. I don't sleep as well without him and tend to wake up when he comes to bed. Plus, he's perpetually crabby because he's running short on sleep.

Class let out early last night so he was home by 10. It was so nice to have him with me. It's the little things.

My FI just texted me to thank me for trying to make our wedding cool (I sent him a pic of a cake topper with a couple high fiving haha.)  That was awesome

I tickle my nephew, and I pretend I am a bee.  I hold out my hand like I am going to get him.  I say Bzzzzz, and then I pretend to grab for him again and say bzzzzz. Then, I tickle him all over, saying buzz buzz buzz buzz.

  The other day my sister and her fiance were talking about Danielle (me),  my nephew shouts, "AUNT DEEEEE" and then he goes up to them and tickles his own chest saying " buzz buzz buzz buzz".  I have the softest spot in my heart for him.

  This might screw him over, in the future, when he thinks bees are cute and want to tickle him. Damn.

Still obsessing over my wedding photos, especially the ones from later in the reception. This was during a lively rendition of "Piano Man" (we had dueling pianos) and I love to see everyone in the background singing and laughing and having fun.

I've had a rough week. Nothing bad is happening; I'm just having a really difficult time being motivated to do anything. I feel tired and cranky, and this morning I was running uber late. I finally finished getting ready and walked into the kitchen to scramble for some breakfast & H says, "Your breakfast is on the counter." 

Then, I got to work and my mom dropped off some coffee for me. 

It made my whole morning and the day has been pretty great as a result.

FI spends a lot of time at work listening to Pandora.  Actually, he DJs the work day for his coworkers.  But whenever our song plays, he takes a screen shot of his phone and texts it to me with an 'I love you.'

My dog never fails to make me smile. Even when he's peed all over the floor outside his crate. He's just always so excited to see his mom and dad come home and I love seeing the little nugget wiggle his little puppy butt all over the house because he cannot contain his happiness. And he gives the best puppy snuggles.

Let me add that I got home and FI left a scavenger hunt. I'm stuck on a clue and I haven't reached the end yet.

It also reminds people that it is NEVER too late to send a sincere note to someone.  Brides will often post on the boards that they have forgotten to send thank you notes, and now it's too late since X months have passed.  Send them regardless.

My cat loves sleeping with in the bed with us.  DH is forced to accept it.

The other night DH woke up and looked over and saw me hugging the cat in my sleep with a smile on my face.  Even in my sleep my kitty makes me smile!

Kitty sleeps on a special blanket at the foot of the bed. She walked up my side and cuddled with me in the middle of the night. Then she went to DH's pillow and sneezed in his face twice. Then she came back to cuddle with me.

My cat will slap me in the face and wake me up, until i accept that hugging him is the only option.  But I can't be mad, How could I be mad about a furry bitch slap?
