SIgns for Flower Girl and Ring Bearer to Hold

Re: SIgns for Flower Girl and Ring Bearer to Hold

  • No one suggested that children participate in the breaking of the glass!!!! No one is suggesting co-opting a ritual.

I am unaware of any rabbinical guidance that prohibits any method of the glass entering the ceremony. And are you really saying kids shouldn't handle glass? Have you met children before?

I'm all about not taking over other peoples traditions, but that's not what anyone has suggested here.

Yes, I have, and no, I would not want a 3-5 year old, or a kid even younger, to handle the glass.  The groom is supposed to break it during the ritual, not a kid on the way down the aisle.

I have a 5 year old nephew who drinks out of plastic cups only.

The kids will be fine just carrying fake rings and flowers or even just going down the aisle.
  • OP----

Kudos to you for wanting to do something different with signs than what's commonly on Pinterest.

Speaking only from logistics and as a short person: No one but those seated on the aisle and the photographers are going to see what's on the signs. If you're set on this plan, pick 1-3 words per sign, and make the letters big and clear. "Here comes the bride" is obvious, but something simple and poetic would be nice if you're set on this plan.

  • I LOVE the sign idea.

I have a flower girl walking down with a sign that says "Here comes the love of your life."

I like the "Are you ready?" sign.

And you could do a quote on one. Like a love quote from a song or movie.

You might love this idea, but a lot of people don't, including kids.

Your post should say "including SOME kids". I'm sure there are tons of kids who enjoy carrying signs and taking a more active role in things.

To me, it was implied that she didn't mean EVERY child in the world. Ugh. We pick apart everything around this joint.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Thanks, @AddieCake. Your interpretation is correct.
  • You could include the groom's name such as

"Uncle so-and-so...." (or just their name)
    "Here comes your girl"
and then have the last set with the rings/flowers

    or

    "Here she comes..."
    "Just wait..."
    "Til you see her!"

    Why?

Why? Because she asked for sign ideas, so I gave her one. We don't all have to be negative on this thread. That's why.
  • @ohannabelle - you just made me laugh so hard that I peed a little tiny bit. If you're getting sign bearers, I want a bell ringer to herald my appearance.

  • The truly bad thing about this thread is that I just took an order for three wedding signs. Reception. Ceremony. Here comes the bride.
I smiled, and said how adorable, and love it, and put my 100 dollars in my pocket.
I feel like a charlatan. (A charlatan who's going out to dinner.)
  • The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of someone walking around with a sign in front of me, to forewarn people.
I want the design to look like a Game Of Thrones family crest, or sigil, or whatever. Maybe a paintbrush carried by a chubby house cat. A Grumpycat type. And a warning motto.
    Annabelle is coming.

Hope nobody speaks this language, @ohannabelle‌

Ohmygod, I wish you could hear how hard I'm laughing. Tears and hurting sides.
    So frikking funny.
Yep. Boxheadcatboy must be found, to warn of my arrival.
  • You're welcome, mama!  <3

  • I think the first sign should say "Help! There's a big bully behind me and he says he is gonna beat me with his sign"
and the second sign behind this should say " l'm gonna beat him so bad, it will be a bloodbath."

If you are going to do something as inappropriate as have children carry signs down the aisle, why not go really whole hog.

    It's a legitimate question.
    Why?

Why is it necessary for the kids to carry signs?

Design should make sense. (Aprx 300th time I've said this.)

The purpose of a sign is to inform or deliver a message. If the couple wanted a specific message delivered, she wouldn't be searching for random messages.

In what way does this add to/enhance/add meaning to the ceremony?

If it doesn't deliver a specific intended message, why a sign?

If it's strictly a visual or design affectation, is it one that works, that has relevance and supports the overall design? Or just an add on element that has no purpose, and is there because saw it on Pinterest and cute? Unsupported and superfluous design elements rarely work. I love elephants, for example. They wouldn't fit with or serve the design. Not just going to start throwing elephants into a ceremony because I like them.

So yes, why?  Doesn't add to the ceremony or experience, doesn't seem to serve a purpose in visual design, doesn't seem to have any purpose at all. So why is a valid question.

Wonderful, but to add, should some viable answer be found to any of Annabelle's questions:

Will any useful benefit derived from the presence of the sign outweigh the probable discomfort of the children carrying them and the pain in the ass dealt with by those childrens' parents/escorts?
