  • I don't do my finger nails because the polish never stays on very long (gel or not), but my current pedi is Essie For the Twill of it. I love that it changes color depending on the lighting. It also reminds me of a Tahitian Black Pearl!
    That is a gorgeous color!

Have you ever tried a stickey or bonding base coat?  I like CND Stickey, it works even better for me than gels!

  • For Spring I love Essie's Go Ginza, or OPI's Mod About You.

For Fall and Winter I love OPI Every Day is Oktoberfest and Essie's Cashmere Bathrobe

That's a classic, I took mine out a few months ago and wore it again (it's hard for me because I have so much haha)

I've tried the bonding base coat before. For some reason, my hands are either too oily or maybe I'm too rough with my nails. I'll try the CND Stickey specifically and see how it goes!

My friend is a pro hairstylist and every time we'd hang out, we'd go to CosmoProf. The nice people working there were kind enough to extend the discount to me as well since I was accompanying bestie. OPI and other very nice nail polish brands for probably half off or more. I haven't gone in a while but my collection is wild as hell for someone who rarely paints my nails.

Nail polish usually chips on me within about 2 days but I dont' really mind too much since I tend to change them every day or so (Yes I"m a crazy person haha.)  I've also found that they Zoya texture polishes stay on really well, even when I"m being rough with my hands and washing them a lot but some people are bothered by the texture of it

  • Essie Ressionista and Russian Navy have been in high rotation. My problem is I tend to like Essie colors better but Opi stays on my nails longer. I have basically caved, and am getting no chips/ gels every 2 weeks.

    Any tips for that?

I hear ya, before I started doing my own nails and blogging, I still had like 30 polishes which seemed like a lot!  Now I'm in the thousands but I justify it that I don't pay for most of it haha

It's all about the base coat and top coat.  Basically, all nail polishes are made of the same 4 formulas but with slightly different additives (for the most part, essie and opi are exactly the same) however the additive might be reacting differently with base and top coat.  Also if you are using polish from a salon, they usually put in acetone to thin it and make it last longer which will make it chip on your nails faster.  I always recommend bringing your own polish!

Try a bonding base coat like CND Stickey though, it might help the essie issue!

  • I've found that Essie polishes always go gummy on me after a few uses. It makes me sad because I loooooooove their colors.

Get a bit of nail polish thinner, put in like 4 drops, should clear that right up!

  • I used to work at a spa and never wore/liked nail polish until I worked there. I've since left, but I still love it! Lately I've been doing black. I think my nails are just the perfect length, not too long and not too short and they look great with a nice shiny black. I generally use Butter london polish.

  • I feel like I could never choose a favorite but if I had to wear the same color forever, I'd choose OPI Barefoot in Barcelona. It's a great neutral for my skin tone. I also love Butter London All Hail the Queen.

  • I dig almost every Essie gray (and the taupe-y grays, like Mink Muffs). I have a matte dark gray from Zoya that I LOVE (but don't have it on me to give the exact name). I also have a really beautiful hunter green Zoya that I can finally wear now that it's officially wintertime (and I'm not playing so many nail-chipping sports).

I love a wine-y red in winter, too.

I'm on the hunt for a nice gold/bronze. The last one I tried was too yellow for my skin tone once it dried.

Dovima is probably the matte grey Zoya.

Go for a cool toned gold like OPI Glitzerland if you can find it.

Do you use oil products in your hair? I found that when I was using a Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner, the polish (even gel) peeled right off my nails in one big sheet - especially on my thumbs, which I scrub with more when I wash my hair. Switched to just a Moroccan oil spray (so I'm not digging my fingertips around in it so much) and the problem stopped.

  • Right now I have Essie First Timer on my toes, and I love it. Soon I will break out my Christmas tradition, which is China Glaze Hanging in the Balance with a gold star or two (from a cheap polish brand with a name I don't remember, that just happens to have very excellent glitter stars. I put the stars on and then use a nice topcoat to finish)

Right now I'm wearing Pepe's Purple Passion by OPI (it was in the Muppets collection).

It doesn't look too purple, though.  I'm a huge fan of Suzi Says Feng Shui by OPI

  • My cuticles are always such a shitshow that it makes my nail polish look bad. It has to be a real special occasion for me to get the shit out to make them look better and then actually paint my nails.

  • I'd have to say my favorite nail polish in my collection is Aurora by Zoya. I was wearing this when FI proposed.

Has anyone tried the new Sally Hansen Gel line?

I bought it the other day. It arrived last night but I haven't tried it yet. It will probably be a few days before I get to it though. I wanted a DIY gel kit and it got good reviews.

  • Mine would be Essie Ladylike. My favorite forever. I'm partial to a lot of Zoya colors those and Zoya definitely dominates my collection due to the great sales they've had in the past.
