Can you name all the states?

http://www.sunnyskyz.com/blog.php?blogid=563/People-In-London-Tried-To-Label-The-50-US-States-On-A-Map-These-Are-The-Hilarious-Results#DZuTetd1JOjfHt31.01

Now I do not expect people from other countries to know where all the states are, but these responses are hilarious.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Re: Can you name all the states?

  • That is great!!!
  • I posted this on my Facebook page earlier today. It was worth a good chuckle.

I recently did a test on jetpunk.com where you have to name all of the countries in the world in 12 minutes (I believe it's 12- work blocked the link.) I named them all with 2 minutes to spare! The worst area for me was Africa.

  • I can still sing that stupid song with the state in alphabetical order that I learned in like 4th grade.

But I'm terrible at geography, I could maybe get about 20 states right.  I"m probably being too generous.  My FI makes fun of me all the time for it, whenever we are on vacation he pulls up maps to show me and I"m just clueless
Haha, I can still sing that song too!!

  • I saw that the other day and was cracking up. I definitely have a hard time with geography. I could probably get like 90% correct.
  • I'm actually quite impressed with some of them because I would honestly have no idea trying to label Liverpool, and even Scottland/ Wales/ Ireland to be honest!

But as a masshole I'm very proud that MA got "good universities", "Mark Wahlburg", and "lobsters" as answers.

I do that on sporcle.com.  I never get them all though. My best is 132.   Mostly because I'm a horrible speller and run out of time.

There is one that you have to drop the state in the correct location.  It will give you a distance where you are off and then it gives you the average off.  It's completely random, so if you get Iowa first you are pretty much screwed on having a low average.

I had a friend one time call me- I lived in AZ and she said "I'm driving from MA to TN- can I stop and visit you on the way?!" I asked if she knew where AZ was and she replied "Of course! I just have no idea where Tennessee is!" FACEPALM hahahah

  • When I moved to Texas as a kid I was asked where we were from.  I answered "Delaware".  I can't tell you how many times people would say "What state is that in?"

I used to do that test name all the countries test on Sporcle all the time, and a few times I've gotten them all right. I usually miss a few in Africa or one of those random small islands.

I haven't done the other quiz you are talking about. I will have to try it. I love geography related quizzes.

  • Confession: I had no idea where Iowa was when H and I first started dating. He is from Iowa. I got Iowa and Idaho confused and kept asking him questions about their potato farming...that was embarassing.

  • Canadian here. I can definitely label all the Canadian provinces and territories. I can probably list all 50 states but I'd get lost trying to label all those ones in the middle. I could maybe label half correctly.

Thank you! I just did it! I had a harder time with a few of the east coast states (I'm looking at you Rhode Island), but I got an average error of 12 miles. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it was a fun quiz!

my best average is 7 miles.  So I think 12 is good for the first time.

It's just sucks when a fly-over state is the first one.  GRR.

  • I can't get jimspages to work. Boo :( I'll have to try it when I get home tonight.

  • My seventh grade social studies teacher gave us a weekly quiz to name all the states. If you got all 50 correct, spelling and all, a certain number of days in a row, you got exempt from taking it again for the rest of the year and you got to hang out in the LIBRARY while everyone else took it.

You can bet I was one of the first mofos to meet that qualification. I'm the state naming boss.

  • I love these, they are hilarious. I've seen a few on Buzzfeed for Australia, Canada, even the countries in Europe all done by non-residents and they are all very funny.

I'm an ex travel agent and while I was in school for that we had quizzes with map labeling for both countries and states (and major tourist cities) so I'm good at this still, but if I hadn't had that experience I highly doubt I'd get much further than California/Nevada/Florida/New York/Texas, lol. I do remember learning the US states at one point in maybe junior high, but US geography isn't studied much up here beyond that one time you might have to learn them.

  • I could absolutely label every state on a map no problem. But, then, I've taken a shitload of road trips all over the place, so that probably helps.

I want to do the Jim's Pages thing, but it's just showing me a long list of links. What am I supposed to click on?!

My longtime favorite "dicking around at work" website before TK was geoguessr.com. My high score was like 22,000!

  • First playthrough, average error of 4 miles! Woo!

  • Oooh... I did the jimpages one and got 98% (one wrong) with 2 mile error.  It started me with Utah, but after that it gave me ones on the edges, so I had references to go on after that first one.

But, I'm pretty good on my US geography because we did several cross country road trips when I was a kid. I would be horrible at naming all the countries or any geography outside US though.

I'm shitty at geography. I was trying to remember one day if it was Nevada or Colorado that was directly north Arizona, where I live.

Guys...it's Utah. Right above us. Utah. And I'm always trying to stick another state between New Mexico and Texas. I feel like Pennsylvania should be were Virginia is and I always thought New York was a lot closer to Maine. But I can find Texas, Washington (state, not DC I'm fucked when it comes to DC), Oregon, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona and New Mexico very quickly. Oh and Michigan because it's shaped like a hand. But I always think it takes up the whole thing, and forget all about Wisconsin. I'm sorry Wisconsin.

  • @MagicInk, I feel your pain.  I SUCK at geography.

In 7th grade American History we had a quiz where we just got a blank map of the United States and we had to correctly name all the states and their capitals.  I failed the first time.  Passing was 65 and I got like a 57 or something.  I wasn't the only one, so he let us retake it for a chance to pass.  And then I failed AGAIN. I got a 63.  That's the only time I failed anything ever. I'm pretty sure I'd do worse today!
